okay for some reason my post was erased. wtf.

anyway i'll ask my question again.

You say that for the last mission you can't do anything after so does that mean that this game is like mass effect, last mission and end credits your screwed if you forgot something?

i was hoping it would be like oblivion where after the core storyline you can still go back and do other stuff

According to the review on IGN.com, the reviewer who beat the game says that after the ending, he was brought back to the main menu and had to load up a save to go explore some more.....

Guys I'm telling you Following in His Footsteps and Galaxy News Radio CAN BE MISSED. Instead of following the quest line I ended up at Rivet City and spoke with Dr. Li. At that point I went to Purification Chamber and met up with dad. Those two quest achievements didn't unlock!!!!! They showed up as completed but I didn't get the points from them. Can anyone else confirm this so I'm not crazy????

FascistCat
10-28-2008, 06:56 AM
I don't think you are crazy. I went to Rivet City before going back to Three Dog about the radio signal. I found out where the father was before finding out from Three Dog himself. At that point I am sure I could have continued on with the main storyline, but I decided to go back anyway. So yes, I am sure you can miss a few of the main quest achievements.

Oh Great . (Throws my guide out the window) :(.

Hey don't give up on the guide. Some people may find it more helpful, i'm not saying that this guide is bad ('cos it isn't). So submit it and people can see which one they like better.

...or you could make a joint guide! 2 minds are better than 1!

...or you could make a joint guide! 2 minds are better than 1! I'd rather do that to be honest. I was really looking forward to Fallout 3. Thought I'd make a guide and Ive been like that since the achievements were announced.

Can I make a suggestion?

For all the "potential" spoilers, could you put spoiler tags on them?

The code for them is
[.spoiler=1]TEXT HERE[./spoiler]
[.spoiler=2]TEXT HERE[./spoiler]
etc...

Without the periods of course.

For me, "Scientific Pursuits" achievement did not unlock :( SPOILER: I even started a new game and went straight to vault 112, when you arrive at Tranquility Lane it should unlock I guess, but it didnīt SPOILER END
Maybe there are some conditions within quests you need to fulfill if you want to get certain achievements, or this is just glitched...

Well, as far as the two guides go... if the some of the main storyline achievements CAN be missed, and it isn't correctly put into this guide... then I'd say I like the other one better. The other guide says, do this for the achievement, where this one kind of... doesn't.

Not a bad guide... but it doesn't look updated I suppose.

I agree. This guide does a better job explaining the non-storyline achievements and the other one does a better job explaining the storyline achievements.

I'm adding a little bit more here and there to help with the main questline. I mainly wanted to talk about the side quests because they took me the longest. I've added a guide for Picking up the Trail and GNR.

You kinda have to guess, but if your character is taking on the Jesus look. You have high good karma. If he has a devil look then you have high bad karma.

This guide is still incomplete...much like the other one...hence the other one was UN stickied.

My personal opinion...I think both authors are doing a decent job for their first time...think they would be better off to hook up together and combine their info. Then we would probably have a guide that is more then half complete...with a little input from the players out there through their experience playing the game this guide or the other guide would be complete in a week or so.

Guys I'm telling you Following in His Footsteps and Galaxy News Radio CAN BE MISSED. Instead of following the quest line I ended up at Rivet City and spoke with Dr. Li.

I don't know about "Following in His Footsteps" but if you completed the speech challenge on 3 Dog you will be given the information on you father and skip to "Scientific Pursuits".

If you fail that speech challenge (or don't take it) then you are given the " Galaxy News Radio" quest help 3 dog with his antenna.

However, if you pass the speech challenge talk to 3 Dog again and you can get the "Galaxy News Radio" quest- That is what I did and I haven't missed an achievement yet.

Try talking to 3 dog again and see if he will give you the quest.

I can't find the source of the ant problem on 'Those' which is why i came to this guide.

Full Metal COS
11-02-2008, 02:28 PM
OK I'll make it clear: SPOILERS.

Right, Giraffe first, on the "Those" quest if you search the boys house you find a key (I think its on the corpse) for the shack, if you enter the shack you can find a voice log that explains what to do next, this quest is mega irritating, cos it takes ages and I personally got slapped around by the fire ant soldiers, the reward is worth it if you stick to the optional part of the quest you get when you go underground. (+1str or +1per, as well as 25% fire resistance I think). Hope this helps.

Secondly, some quests may seem to be skipable, for instance when I was doing "Those" I went to rivet city and spoke to Doctor Li, which finished up the "following in his footsteps" quest even though I hadn't been to GNR, yet I didn't get the achievement. This is because (from my own experience, rather than cold hard facts) you have to complete every step of a quest to get the achievement. However, that being said, if after completing a quest prematurely (as above) if you then go back and do the steps you missed (e.g. going to GNR and talking to Three Dog about your father) you will get the achievement, even though the quest has already, technically, been finished.
On a side note: Jesus, how hard is it to get through to GNR? I spent three hours getting my ass kicked on the way in, and only got there by expending two thirds of my ammo and all but 5 stimpacks. Any advice would be welcome please?
Hope everything I posted was helpful, sorry if it wasn't.
Peace.

SPOILER:
In your guide, for the "The Wasteland Survival Guide" achievement, you said that you shouldn't blow up megaton, in order to get this achievement. I just want to tell you that I blw up Megaton, and out of curiosity, I traveled back to the Megaton Ruins and noticed that Moira is a survivor (and looks like a ghoul) and will tell you that she will be traveling to the underworld (Which is located in the mueseum of history). You go here, and talk to her, you will be able to once again get going on her book.

I must be reading a different guide because im sorry author but I know u said u tried to be vague so as not to spoil game but you have been far to vague if u ask me. I mean when u describe the achievement for agathas violin, you havent put anything in the description she doesnt tell u herself. It would be better if you actually told us where abouts in vault 92 it is because personally I have been everywhere and cant find it. Same for other achievements where u need to find something, tell us WHERE it is, put the place in the spoiler warning if u have to and for the achievement where u have to do all that scientific research how about telling us exactly where to go and what to do for each part, that would be sweet.

This guide is not bad, what it needs is directions to these towns and locations where you obtain the quests and where to go next. The map in this game is huge, specific directions would be most helpful. I haven't found Big Town, Museum of History, Girdershade, Temple of the Union, Oasis, or Agatha's Shack. If you don't want to do that at least tell us who can mark these locations on our map for us if there is someone. In the meantime I'll just wander around and see what I can find on the map. lol

I wouldnt go that far, its far from perfect. Remember a perfect guide means that someone can click on the guide and never have to do any thinking for themselve because a perfect guide would have everything needed. You should combine your guide with the sidequests guide and then you would have a half decent guide but never a perfect guide. I should be able to see my latest quest and then look up the guide and not have to do any thinking, searching or anything. Not me personally as im doin alright as it is im just describing what a perfect guide would be like.

This guide is looking great so far and it has helped me alot already. One thing that would help people more though is that I think you need to explain what you have to do in certain missions a bit more such as the 'Those' mission, as you don't explain where you need to go to stop the fire ants. Over than that though good job so far, this should be stickied.

For Tenpenny's Tower, you don't speak to Tenpenny himself, he will tell you nothing. I had to talk to Chief Gustavo to initiate this quest. I don't know if it was just me... but I doubt it.

And no offense to you... and I hope I don't sound rude, but if you aren't going to finish the guide completely, then there is no point in starting it in the first place. Leave it to someone who knows what they are doing. Haha, if you are looking to make a guide for the first time and screw around, try it with something like Viking... which isn't a half-bad game I might add :p.

I am still finding errors with this guide, which is most likely why it is not stickied. Same with the other. Both fail to explain the quest start location, directions for finishing the quest, etc. for each and every achievement. I'm not saying I'd make a better guide... but then again, thats why I am not trying. Its been said before, but I'll say it again, why can't you both put aside your differences and work together on a joint-effort guide for the site?

"This quest starts at Tenpenny Tower. Speak to Mr. Tenpenny and he will tell you how some ghouls want to move in. You have one of two choices, you can convince the people that Tenpenny Tower to let ghouls move in or you can kill all the ghouls. The ghouls kills all the the people anyway if you let the ghouls move in. So it is your choice."

WHAT? I just did this quest and get the residents to let the Ghouls move in. They didn't kill anybody. The place was fine and everyone was living in peace.. except those Wellington assholes on the suite floor. They wont talk to me. But anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded statement.
