I beat it on normal and then later on vet. D-Day gave me the most problems out of any other missions.

Minty
02-10-2006, 03:34 AM
i kept dieing right before the first checkpoint on -day. took me hours lol

hill 400 was fun tho ;D

you mean you couldnt even get up the cliff, cause you know the first checkpoint is when you get to the top ;)

Minty
02-10-2006, 03:37 AM
ah alright then, the first real checkpoint

but on veteran i did think i died when i got shot getting out the boat- that doesnt happen on normal!!

g4m3r7ag
02-10-2006, 03:42 AM
that would scare you then, i didnt know it did that since as soon as i put it in i put it on veteran

I beat it on Vet over 2 days. Hill 400 was hard until you figure it out, then it's relatively easy.

i got all 1000 gamer points in this. it was very hard, particularly the silo and hill 400. the silo is a bitch, make sure u find the sniper in the tower.

I just finished hill 400 and it wasen't as hard as i thought it was. I pretty much just let my team mates do most of the work and i had a sniper so that helped. Crossing the RHINE is F***** ANNOYING.

Over-use of the smoke grenades on Vet is key to getting this achievement! You wont get far without them!
Took me a good 10 hours to get Vet.

g4m3r7ag
02-12-2006, 04:40 PM
i barely used smoke grenades maybe thats why it took me a week

PaleGringo
02-13-2006, 12:14 AM
Alternating between this, Madden, and PGR3, it took me a week. Played it through all on Veteran the first time, and it's my first 1000.

D-Day was the hardest. I felt Hill 400 was easy... :-\

I just beat the Russian campaign on veteran. I am taking my time since I own the game now. The Russian campaign was pretty easy once I got the feel for the levels. I take it this game gets much harder later…..

You'll love D-Day on Vet ;D (all of the American campaigns are quite tricky on Vet)

Beat it on Veteran awhile ago. Good game, but the multiplayer didn't do much for me, so I returned it.

Worst Misson = The Battle Of Caen. (Stupid Houses)

I beat Hill400 in 2 lives :P I took it very slow and I got up to the top in 1 life, when you had to hold the hill I died twice.

hill 400 was the easist i though once i got up there and got in, all i did was hide behind some sandbags till the timer went down I never fired a single round while holding it and yes i did run for cover but when i wasnt doing that i was simply laying down behind the sand bags to the left after you come out the bunker.

Beat in on vet

DaveWilma07
02-16-2006, 03:49 PM
I used that same tactic on hill 400... well, kinda. I found a decent position where I could concentrate firepower on a single area, and just staying behind cover, firing randomly at the enemy when they came too close.

I did/agree with everything here. I beat the game on Vet a while ago, the worst mission was the Battle of Caen (stupid houses) and hill 400 on Vet was a joke, however I died twice going up the hill at and only once during the sniper part on top of the hill.

I found the sniper part on Hill 400 the hardest part, until I went crazy and chucked all my smoke grenades out to cover me. Its still really difficult as youve got to watch for enemy fire from all sides.

Beat it today on veteran, it was hard. What was frustrating is the mission 'silo ' at the end on the tower i had 2 bullets in my sniper rifle and two mortars firing at the same time and i had a checkpoint. It was impossible, so i restarted. It was frustrating as hell, also cause its one of the hardest missions to do.

Webb
02-19-2006, 11:43 PM
That would definitely be frustrating. I'm glad I only had to do building F on that level once on veteran!! Otherwise Call of Duty 2 would have just become an expensive glorified frizbee.

g4m3r7ag

At least with this game you dont have to play it on all difficulties to get all the points (unlike Quake 4).
Some ckeckpoints took forever to get past but it was sweet to get 1000 in the end.

I beat vet in half an hour with both my hands tied behind my back and a monkey attacking me! ::)

Yeah this thread is funny just on people's posts. I took ages to beat veteran, which should make anyone who didn't finish it in record time feel better :D

IMHO, the hardest part was Caen, but I got stuck at one part (many parts actualy but one in particular) where you're covering the retreat of a group of British soldiers and you have to blow up a tank that's firing at the house you're in. God I would have killed to have a smoke grenade there ;D

I beat the game today (finally), and my disc had glitched out, and I did not get credit for beating the entire war on Veteran, even though I have every mission complete. Once I hook my 360 to the internet, I will show you all.

Anyway, any suggestions, or should I just quickly play the missions that are incomplete on Hardened mode.

If you did that thing where you unlock the levels and then play them out of order, your pretty much screwed. That's a known glitch. If you did it the normal way and it didn't give it to you, try playing from your last save or maybe the whole last mission again.

I finally beat this...on veteran first time through. I was concerned it would glitch, and not give me all three achievements at the same time (vet on crossing rhine, war hardned, and won the war) but it did. Very Fun game and great statisfaction that I have completed it.

My levels were messed up, and I had to use the glitch to keep moving on.

I completed it myself last night. :D While at times frustrating, the veteran difficulty is also quite satisfying each time you're rewarded with an accomplishment. For me, the real trouble spots on Veteran were:

Repelling the Germans after getting the sniper on "Comrade Sniper"
Keeping the vehicle alive at the end of "Armored Car Escape"
The amush at the beginning of "Assault on Matmata"
Getting accross no-man's land on "The Battle of Pointe du Hoc"
Taking the buildings and sniping the mortars on "Silo"
Staying alive while sniping mortars and waiting for reinforcements at the end of "Battle for Hill 400"

The rest of the game was difficult, but didn't take nearly as many tries as those sections. If it helps, here are some tips:

Know how much damage you've taken, and always rest under cover to heal
Except when running to cross exposed ground, always crouch
Stay on your belly behind short cover to survive close grenade explosions
If ammo is available, use the Thomson machine gun for short and medium range attacks
Any rifle will do for long range, but make headshots. Figure out exactly where you need to put the crosshairs
Some of your allies are indescructable, stay close to them
Listen to your allies, they're usually trying to warn you about something
You're usually on point for your allies; you've got to enter the area first and clear out the first few enemies before they will follow
Use smoke grenades to create cover and/or blind the enemy
Use frag genades to clear an area of respawning enemey, and then get close to prevent another respawn
Use frag grenades to clear the second floor of buildings
