We've made two sites now since some wanted a new fresh site for the main pages ;D

Do you think we should use

www.xbox360achievements.org

or

www.xbox360achievements.org/xb

(the second one is just created so it might need some more tweaking)

I guess I'm in the minority here - I like this one better. I like clean, simple looks, and this one definitely fits that.

Hmm. what can we do about the new main page to make it better than, Ice? =)

If it were me, I'd change the green background in the header. The header graphic doesn't seem to "belong" there with the colors of the header graphic and the green of the background. Maybe changing it to white would be better.

I would also lessen the amount of vertical space between each game listed in the menus on the left side of the page - just too much whitespace (at least for me). I would also make the box art about 1/3 the size it is now in the articles section in the center of the page - it seems to "overpower" the text that's there. Another option here would be to wrap the text around the graphic, kinda like newspapers and magazines do - go to the Joomla demo page (http://demo.joomla.org/) for an example of what I mean. Another thing you could do would be to have the box art image be a link to the achievements page or the Forums page for that game.

These are just my opinions - I'm not trying to be overly negative or anything. You guys have done a great job in a short amount of time. :)

I do like the gamercards on the right side of the page - that's a nice touch.

Here's an example of what I mean for the Fight Night 3 article ... the image has been resized to 45% of its original size:

http://www.cimba.com/testing/fn3.png

and here's the current look:

http://www.cimba.com/testing/fn3-current.png

This way, the image doesn't take up so much of the article, and reorganizing the area and tweaking the spacing allows more vertical room for articles.

Just a suggestion. ::)

and a very good one at that

Looks good! Theonly suggestion I have now would be to change the line spacing. I think there was something in the CSS that had the line-height set to 1.8. I changed it to 1.2 in my example, and that seemed to look better to me. Here's the HTML I was messing around with:

<table class="contentpaneopen">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td colspan="2" align="left" valign="top" width="70%" class="createdate">
<span class="small">
Written by RoutineX on Friday, 10 February 2006
</span>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">
<img src="x3a_files/cover-fn3-HGurdg.jpg" height="99" width="70">
</td>
<td valign="top" style="line-height: 1.2;">
We just added the achievement list for Fight Night: Round 3 with
pictures. We still need to find out the gamescores. If you know more
than we do, please let us know.
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2" class="modifydate" align="left">
Last updated on Saturday, 11 February 2006
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

man i wish i was good like you guys, ive tried HTML ive bought a book, i just don't get the hang of it, it would probally be 1000x more helpful if i took a class at the community college, im more of a hands on learner.

Im also for the XB version. With a couple of tweaks.

If the game titles could be pushed closer together in the menu, and a new banner that fits the design a little better.

Fortunately for me, this is the sort of stuff I do for a living, so I have to know it to some degree.

If you are interested in getting the game titles a little closer together vertically in the left menus, you can make the following change in your template_css.css file. Change the line in red below to the value I have:

a.mainlevel {
font-size: 10px;
padding-left: 4px;
width: 143px;
display: block;
line-height: 16px; /* This value *WAS* 26 */
margin-bottom: 2px;
text-decoration: none;
font-weight: normal;
border-right: 4px solid #CACACA;
voice-family:"\"}\""; /* Box Model fix */
voice-family:inherit;
width: 135px;
}

That seems to look good to me - and maybe to Steve Vice as well.

If you're interested in learning, probably the best thing to do would be to save the HTML source for a page that you like the look of, and save it to your hard drive.

Then, just mess around with the file, making tiny tweaks here and there. If you like the tweak and it does what you want, keep it. If it doesn't, undo the change you made. Lather, rinse, repeat until the page looks how you want it to.

That's how I learned it as a hobby before I started using it professionally.

tried but like all the pictures are fucked up sicne there saved as just "image/___" and not the whole URL, would be nice if a site had like a dummy page to practice on

which would make it red.

I like the idea of you guys haveing your gamercards on the page like you have now, but how about you "incorporate" it into the design by using one of the white and green small gamercards on http://www.glop.org/gamercard/ instead?
I think maybe that could fit well with the design ???

Actually, that's a really good idea. Those color schemes would fit in rather nicely with the scheme used in the rest of the site. Not only that, since they're a little smaller, the images wouldn't look like they're "squished" like the current ones are.

Good one, Steve!

Lol. Nice site KMB 316 ;D

About the only other home page tweak I would suggest would be to narrow the right-side boxes to the current width of the header underlines and/or center everything. Seems to be a bit much of "space" to the right of the gamercards.

But maybe it's just me. :D

RoutineX
02-12-2006, 07:14 PM

Tried to contact you via msn, but guess you weren't around

Another tweak would be to have the links to the gamercards on xbox.com open up in a separate window (target="_blank")

Age,

They've already made the switch. FOr a short period of time, you could view both versions, and they asked us for our opinions. We might want to have the Admins lock this thread so it doesn't confuse anyone else.

And I agree with the others. It looks awesome.

Yeah, we changed to the new layout after getting lots of good feedback :)
