I don't think that Civ 3, 4 and CivRev are really comparable, because they are very-very different games. Civ 3 is a straight sequel of the classic Civ. It has a lot of improvements, but the basic game mechanism and the winning strategy was the same. So, if you liked Civ you like Civ 3, too. If you was good in Civ, then you should be good in Civ 3. Civ 4 was not created by Sid Meier and the whole game mechanism was drastically changed. I lived Civ 3, and when I started to play Civ 4 it was very unfamiliar. But if you give a chance to the game, and do not think about it as a sequel of Civ 3, it is a really decent strategic game. The same is true for Civ4 and CivRev, too.
