View Full Version : These ads are getting ridiculous...

Okay, so I'm on the homepage looking at my game stats and something caught my eye. It was this ad:

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e146/jeffjr92492/ad.jpg

Note that the ad was also a video, not just an image.

Now I don't know about you, but I consider this site a family site because it's all about 360 and achievement hunting. This ad is completely inappropriate and all of these ads as a matter of fact are getting completely out of hand. I have been sent to different websites and I have been annoyed by audio ads for far too long. Pop-up ads that block what I am trying to do are also getting on my last nerve. I'm probably not the first person to complain about this, but I want to voice my opinion because the ad above is flatout ridiculous. My suggestion is to stop all of this crap and go back to the good old days when ads were actually tolerable. With x360a getting more and more popular, more and more ridiculous people want to advertise and it needs to stop. Hopefully, I'm not the only one that realizes this.

I can see where you are coming from with that ad in the top right. That seems to be a bit full on - considering alot of people on the forums admit to being 18 and under.... Hmmmm....

I can readily admit that I'm under the age of 18...

Is it against forum rules to recommend advertisement blocking software/addons? ;)

I don't know how you guys live without them...

I do have add on/popup blockers. But a lot of people might not. The point still remains there is an advertisment for material like that on a family friendly site.

If you notice in my toolbar there's a pop-up blocker active. It's the icon in between the blue + sign and the blue star. I still get ads here and there though, and they are ridiculous.

I'm not looking to start a morality argument here...but I find it strange people are worried about the content in a picture of two girls kissing when this is a site devoted to video games, most of which are rather violent.

pfft you have a start menu, i got a flag.

I actually never get pop ups, or maybe 1 a month not sure... but some ads are bad others are ok. my dad walked into the room and saw the t-shirt ad where the girl looks to be wearing no pants... sucks to explain something to him when he has never been on a computer before. my dad opens spam mail thinking he will actually get a free tv, no freakin wonder we get 1 million calls a day!

just checked the main site for me and i have 0 ads atm.... i think i rarely/never get ads

Another thing is half of these ads have nothing to do with video games! Like I will tolerate those Gilette ads because it turns Tiger and Jeter into video game characters and it actually relates to gaming. That ad and even the ad in the top toolbar shouldn't even be on this site. It's completely pointless in regards to the content on this site. It has no business being here.

PS: It wasn't a picture. It was a video. In other words, it was basically a softcore porno.

But if it's blood smeared across the ad about a video game...that's OK...because it's content related?

That's not what I am trying to say. I'm saying that I don't see how these ads fit onto this website since they have nothing to do with video games. Sure, the ad that you just made up is equally inappropriate and that is why parents put content blocks on their computers so kids don't see that kind of stuff, but that isn't the point of this thread. I'm just trying to get rid of the pointless inappropriate ads like the two you see in the print screenshot.

You can though. I won't spell out exactly how because websites like this rely on advertising to pay the bills and keep the site running...but on the other hand I deserve to not have my computer bogged down by flash advertisements. If you're going to advertise on a website, do it tastefully.

Your "Popup blocker" with Internet Explorer won't do you any good though. Switch browsers and get a rather popular addon for it and you'll never see them...as I don't.

LOL, Internet Explorer. But really, quick fix would be Firefox with AdBlock Plus.
