View Full Version : Who here supports the worst sports team?

Arran

I support Newcastle United when it comes to football (only sport I watch bar boxing).

Newcastle United achievments:

Haven't won a domestic trophy in 51 years.

Haven't ever won a real european trophy in thier history. (Won the FAIRS Cup in 69).

Have spent in the region of £200 million over the past 10 years, Chelsea have done the same and won the league twice. (Over 3 years in thier case).

Price in millions!

Bought Bramble for £4!
Bought Robert for £10!
Bougfht Viana for £9.5!
Bought Luque for £10!
Bought Bassedas for £6!
Bought Marcelino for £6! Out for four months with a broken finger one time!
Bought Shearer for £15 after letting him go for free as a teenager!
Had Saha on loan, decided not to sign him for the £750,000 they wanted.

Anyone support a worse team?

i was going to nominate the Royals :( .... being a MN Twins fan all my life, we went through a long stretch similar to yours after winning in 1991, but not as lonnngggg. you guys will hopefully crawl out eventually--but then i won't get to always look forward to all the games we play against you ;).

i do not follow football (soccer) that closely, so i do not have anything i can compare it to...sorry.

I am from Phildelphia, so I am used to supporting an underachieving sports team. Every year I look forward to the season, and then my hopes of winning are almost immediately destroyed. O and I am not an Eagles fan, so yeah I usually don't support the best of teams. The Flyers and Sixers are the worst teams in their respective leagues right now.

My football team won the League Cup. Once. That's it. Not unless you want to count the LDV Vans trophy as a major achievement :)
Though I will give you we haven't wasted millions on flop players like Newcastle have(obs. I'm not referring to Shearer, but the rest you mentioned...yeah don't remember em being any good really)
I'm a Birmingham City fan btw. Though there are worse clubs off then us got to be said.

Get out of here Cowboys...you don't have a clue as to what losing is...

I am a Detroit Tigers (baseball) fan that also roots for the Lions. 500-600 (rounded) in the history of the team...no playoffs since 1999...have won 4 championships, none since 1957. And, the only team EVER to lose 16 games in one season...EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gatorbait
02-07-2010, 02:08 PM
I support the Bucs, Lightning, and Rays. Luckily they have all made it to their respective championships (Rays lost the WS though) but all 3 have been the epitome of losing.

The Bucs for years were known as the Yucks losing their first 26 games in franchise history (still a record) and only making the playoffs 3 times in their first 20 years.

The Lightning were the first team in NHL history to record four straight 50 loss seasons. They've finished 30th and 29th in the league the past two seasons but things are looking better this season.

The Rays never saw more than 70 wins in their first 11 seasons and only once finished above last place in their division before reaching the WS in 2008. They were typically the laughing stock of the baseball world.

Despite some pretty awful seasons, I will never forget Super bowl 37 and the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals.

I agree. Sure the Cowboys have not won a playoff game in over a decade but they are far from entering the discussion of terrible sports franchises.

If they played 16 game schedules in 1976, the Bucs would have been right there with you guys. Even with your 0-16 season, you guys still had a ways to reach our 26 game losing streak, haha!

I'm a Cleveland Browns fan =( Have never even been to a super bowl. Last time we won anything was before they were in the NFL. They took the Browns away from us at one point and since we have got the team back ('99) have only made the playoffs one time. In which we got knocked out by a team that had already beat us 2 times that year. We have articles written on espn making fun of how many QB's have started for us and how our fans are "dedicated despite being bad year after year" haha.

I support both the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sadly, they both suck. How can I support two teams? Well, they probably will never meet in the Stanley Cup finals anyway :P And in a rare regular season matchup they will probably both lose, lol..

I also support Brynäs in the Swedish Elite League, at least they might have a chance of winning something this year.

2006, 2010. Close enough. That's only a few YEARS.
That may be true, but I can list the changes. The first thing was draft Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, who were voted 1st and 2nd in the rookie of the year for 2007-2008 season.

Second "Dollar" Bill Wirtz died. He first thought of the salary cap, which pushed out Bobby Hull, the first person to score 50 goals in a season, from the NHL and into the WHL. Which also started the age of free agency. Wirtz's goal every year was to make the playoffs. Not to win the cup, which shows in the last time the Hawks won the cup was 1961, which is the second longest in sports (Chicago Cubs take first with over 100 years without a championship). And of the Original 6 teams they have the least amount of Stanley Cups with only 3. His other contribution to the Hawks was that he never showed a home game on TV, in order to see the Hawks you had to go to the Stadium.

Since then we have signed big name free agents such as Brian Campbell, Christobal Huet, and Marian Hossa.

I am also a Cubs fan, 102 years of futility and still counting.

I'll make a list of all my favorite teams
NFL- St. Louis Rams, haven't been good in about 6 or 7 years and the past 3 or 4 have been just atrocious
MLB - Cleveland Indians, had their good year about 3 years ago when they were 1 game shy of the world series. And they haven't won a title in about 65 years.
NBA - Cleveland Cavaliers, possibly the only elite team that I follow. Even though they have never won a championship, They make a consistent playoff run each year.
NHL - Columbus BLue Jackets, enough said. In their 10 year history we have made the playoffs once last year, only to be swept by the bastards in Detroit. And we always hear on the news that they are losing money badly and it's possible we could lose them.

Also living in Columbus you have to be an Ohio State Buckeye fan, the one thing I look forward to every year. Hoping Pryor can finally have the year we have come to expect

You don't get worse as far as the Championship goes.

The team I support though are Notts Forest. But given their recent form, it looks they're heading quite quickly to be the 'Worst of the Best'. I can't see them getting through the play-offs. I think Cardiff has the strongest side there.

I grew up going to the Bucs games as a kid (born in '80) through all those long, losing years. I actually got to go to games with my dad because nobody else wanted to go with him to them! :p He and others who sat around us had a fun time teaching me to be negative and snarky at the games (got dubbed the "Duchess of Doom") but I have been a loyal fan.

so wait you cant see Boston beating you like we did all year or maybe like in a high pressure game like the WC thats right bury youre head up youre butt for a dead franchise like the flyers. Philly has no good teams. In reference to the actual thread I support the worst teams except they all get better when i support them, Phoenix Coyotes, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Nationals, Boston Blazers. But hey at least im not a Philly fan

Yeah i do support Newcastle UTD, even though we were unbeaten at St James' Park. That is quite bad for our capable squad

I support my home team which is Grimsby Town and yehhh we're 2nd bottom league to but UP THE TOWN (I hope we win tomorrow, 4 points from safety)

I support Darlington, who have just finished bottom of League Two and will play in the Conference next season. Oh, and we were bottom for the entire season. By miles. And miles.

Everton here.

For the past 15 years, we've had nothing to shout about. We're an almost team.

But, considering our budget, we do pretty well. Certainly can't top the OP. Lord knows how you could put up with being a Newcastle fan :D

The Maple Leafs are of course horrible, but the Boston Bruins are the laughingstock of hockey right now. How the hell you blow a 3-0 lead in the series AND game 7?!?
