View Full Version : Should I buy Rock Band or rent it and export the songs over to Rock Band 2?

I just started with the Rock Band series at Christmas when Rock Band 2 was on sale at Toysrus. So Rock Band 2 was the first time playing Rock Band for me. It might seem weird but I kind of want to get the original Rock Band, not just for the songs but also to get some more achievement points out of it even though they will take a while. Would you guys recommend buying Rock Band (it's only $14.99 used at gamestop if I do get it) or just renting it and paying the small fee to transfer the songs over to Rock Band 2 and just have the additional songs to play.

By the time you rent it and pay the export fee, you have almost matched the used price, so just buy it.

It's worth buying. It's cheap and the achievements are way too time consuming for a rental.

Well the rental wouldn't be for achievements. In order to export the songs over to RB2 wouldn't I have had to have played RB, thus the rental. I figured it would probably be worth it to just buy and I could pickup some more points. I remember when they first announced you would be able to export the songs that people talked about renting the first RB and then paying the fee. If I really wanted to I could rent it for free through Blockbuster.

I recommend buying RB1. As you said it's only like $15 used and $5 for the one time licensing fee.

That's a nice tip actually....thank you very much!

For others in a similar situation of "should I buy" perhaps a friend has a copy you could borrow to export songs. A friend of mine was thinking about doing the whole rental thing, but I reminded him we already had a few copies of RB1 floating around our circles of friends.

Buy it so you could have achievements to get in RB1 and RB2.

Well I finally went ahead and bought it. I managed to get a copy off of ebay for only $9.50. Not bad considering that's a little more than the price of a 6/7 songpack for download. I was looking through the achievements and does the endless setlist have to be done with 2 players? I looked in the achievement guide and it didn't say anything but I've been reading around and it sounded like it. I don't know since I haven't received the game yet but I was just curious. And if this is the case, can it be done over Xbox Live? These are probably stupid questions but I don't have the game yet.

You have to do the Endless Setlist with 2 people unfortunately. And to make it worse, you can't do it over Xbox Live.

Technically you only need 2 instruments, NOT 2 players. You can sing and play Bass/Guitar at the same time to get it.

Yeah but in my case it would have to be with 2 players. I'm definitely not a singer, haha. That sucks though, oh well.
