View Full Version : FPS or RPG?

What's the better genre?

04-02-2009, 12:07 PM
I personally prefer RPG,but i also like to play FPS as well.

04-02-2009, 12:08 PM
I'm just the opposite. Personally prefer FPS, but still love a good RPG every now and then.

04-02-2009, 12:10 PM
I grew up on FPS so I'm kind of biased but, FPS>All

04-02-2009, 12:12 PM
i used to be obsessed with RPG's, but then FPS just took over.

now i'd have to say i prefer FPS... but i still cant wait for Final Fantasy XIII

04-02-2009, 12:12 PM
When it comes down to it, I'd rather play a FPS than an RPG because sometimes putting all that time into leveling up can be cumbersome.

FPS wins for me at the moment simply because of the lack of good RPG's recently. Overall they are my favourite 2 genre though.

04-02-2009, 12:18 PM
Is soon as Mass Effect 2 comes out i'm all over it!!!

04-02-2009, 12:19 PM
They are also my 2favorites, but FPS are too short and RPGs lack of guns and grenades. I love when they do some mix, like on CoD:MW when you had levels and could increase your weapons and character.

RPG's lack of grenades because they give most of them to CoD5 WAW!!!http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

FPS, Gears and Halo 2 FTW.
Hot and Fired, Hot and Fired :p

What's the better genre?

You can't really say which genre is "better", it's just a matter of personal taste. But my personal taste goes out to the rpg. There are just 13 FPS in a dozen.

04-02-2009, 01:09 PM
I prefer RPG's over FPS.

04-02-2009, 01:21 PM
I would say that i love playing fps online like call of duty or battlefield bad company, but nothing beats a good rpg like fallout 3 or mass effect.

04-02-2009, 02:24 PM
i prefer RPG's, such as oblivion and mass effect, over FPS but i'm not too fond of japenese RPG's.

FPS, Gears and Halo 2 FTW.
Hot and Fired, Hot and Fired :p
Gears isnt an FPS

Gears is in the 3rd person view

Anyway.. back on topic.
I often get bored with RPG's there and i love a good FPS. i think most of my 360 games are FPS's

04-02-2009, 02:35 PM
Both as good as each other I'd say.

I mean I love Final Fantasy and loved Lost Odyssey, but also loved Timesplitters and Call of Duty.

04-02-2009, 02:40 PM
Final Fantasy 7 is the reason I fell in love with gaming. But now, it seems like all I play are shooters. I want to play a good RPG...I've been trying to figure out which would be good: Oblivion, FO3, Mass Effect, BioShock, Star Ocean, etc.

04-02-2009, 03:02 PM
They both serve different purposes for me.

For when I'm feeling chilled or intrigued I'll play RPG's for their mostly relaxed atmosphere and interesting storyline.

For when I'm feeling competitive or in need of action, shooters are the way to go for the action and fun. :D

Gotta admit though I enjoy RPG's a hell of a lot more.

FPS fo' sho'.:p

04-02-2009, 03:04 PM
they're equally good :P

04-02-2009, 03:41 PM
I prefer RPGs.

04-02-2009, 03:52 PM
i love both. i love the story in a RPG, there are storylines in fps but not as good as in RPGs. and i love the online gameplay in the most FPS, like COD4:MW

04-02-2009, 04:04 PM
FPS games are fun to play, but most of them can be repetitive. RPGs are amazing to play during spare time/no one is online. The storyline to all RPGs are usually fantastic and I love a good storyline.

I'm equal on both of them, and that prolly explains why Fallout 3 is my favorite game (RPG but has some FPS vibes to it).

haha dont waste your time quoting me like i dont know what an FPS is. i realize gears is a third person shooter but its more along the lines of an FPS than anything else.

Get Fallout 3 as it's an FPS RPG.

Sorted !

04-02-2009, 06:06 PM
I prefer FPS, my favorite genre, even though I like RPG too, but FPS is the better one imo.

04-02-2009, 08:59 PM
I like both equally, both genre's have great games. :)

04-02-2009, 09:02 PM
Usually FPS, but I'm getting kind of tired of them due to every game company copy-pasting the same thing from every other game.

I love 'em both......maybe that's why FALLOUT 3 is my favorite game.

xZombie x3h
04-02-2009, 09:09 PM
That's a tough choice, considering they're both my favourite genre. I guess it depends on what king of mood I'm in.

04-02-2009, 09:35 PM
i like both of them evenly, maybe FPS a little more

04-02-2009, 10:18 PM
I'm sided more with RPGs but i will prefer golden eye or timesplitters to most RPGs though

04-02-2009, 10:19 PM
RPG, but hate Fallout :(

Call me cliche, but Final Fantasy VII is the best game... ever

04-02-2009, 10:30 PM
Dont forget about FPRPG lol

04-02-2009, 11:26 PM
I don't need to choose :]

Fallout 3 is both RPG and FPS.

Win Win Scenario.

04-02-2009, 11:30 PM
I'm really can't say. The only single player games I truly love are RPG's. But, I actually like Third-Person shooters over a FPS.

04-03-2009, 12:52 AM
FPS. RPG is completing and utterly useless to play.

04-03-2009, 02:45 AM
i'd play a RPG over the everyday FPS anyday if the RPG is of great quality i.e. mass effect.

04-03-2009, 02:46 AM
Both even IMO i love both genres. :p

04-03-2009, 03:26 AM
I love both genres, but I prefer a good RPG to a good FPS most of the time.

04-03-2009, 04:18 AM
As of right now FPS, I just find them easier to get into then rpgs. But overall RPG's because they keep you entertained for much longer then an fps.

04-03-2009, 05:37 AM
I love em both but overall I prefer RPG's.

04-03-2009, 05:53 AM
like them both but play FPS more so its
FPS ftw

04-03-2009, 06:14 AM
I play both, but I find myself trading my FPS in more-so than with my RPGs.

04-03-2009, 06:26 AM
i definitely prefer FPS

04-03-2009, 06:27 AM
Well a good FPS beats a bad RPG. But nothing beats a good RPG. :D

04-03-2009, 06:44 AM
I'm a bit based but I will have to go with FPS because I don't have the attention span or memory to play RPG's.

Plus FPS are fun and safe! :)

04-03-2009, 07:05 AM
It's really tough, considering one of each is in my top five Xbox 360 games.

Condemned - FPS
Fable 2 - RPG

I'd have to say I play more FPS though.

04-03-2009, 08:00 AM
As Mattias once said, "RPG, time to blow something up".

However, I no longer play JRPGs, Final Fantasy VI (III in the US) burned me out of that sub-genre. Only T&A for me :p (Tactics & Action RPGs).

04-03-2009, 09:27 AM
I prefer RPG but I play FPS games since there are more games in the FPS genre, A few of my favorite games are RPG's. A good RPG is amazing but since there hasn't been that many solid RPG games on the xbox I am kinda thinking maybe the RPG genre has lost it's touch.

04-03-2009, 09:49 AM
I play more FPS then any other genre maybe apart from racing so I prefer that over RPG although games like Viking and Final Fantasy X-2 have really made me appreciate that genre a lot more now.

Dragonfire 360
04-03-2009, 11:35 AM
I prefer the FPS.

But I do enjoy a good RPG every once in a while.

04-03-2009, 11:58 AM
RPG, preferably JRPG.

04-03-2009, 12:29 PM

Mainly because i can take my time with them and dont have to be full of rushed action packed shooters.

Dont get me wrong FPS's are great but RPG's win it for me.

Lost Odyssey FTW!!:woop:

Clark Kent
04-03-2009, 03:42 PM
RPG although FPS are extremely fun i feel RPG's i can have much more fun wit!!!!!!!!!!!!

04-03-2009, 04:26 PM
Overall, I'd probably side with RPG. Those games are more laid back for me and I don't have to constantly react as quickly like with FPSs. I will admit Fallout is a perfect blend of the two. I'm not really into JRPGs but more-so with Western RPGs. Plus I'm more of a single player mode type of gamer so RPG usually has more to offer.

04-03-2009, 04:35 PM
All a matter of opinion of course, but I prefer RPG's.
Tactical RPG's are best for me, but the 360 has a sad lack of those. So I've been playing whatever RPG's I can get my hands on.
Nothing wrong with FPS though. I enjoy those too, although I suck at them

04-03-2009, 09:58 PM
FPS. I don't play RPGs. Well, I've played a few, and I have nothing against them, but FPS are great. I love guns.

04-03-2009, 10:09 PM
I prefer a good fps myself, but i also like action rpg's(oblivion, fallout3)

04-03-2009, 10:12 PM
From a statistical standpoint FPS takes the cake because it is easy to pick and play. RPG in my book would have to be better because the story is more in depth, but FPS games can be surprising in what they bring to the table.
