Not a sequel to Doom 3, but not a reboot either, a little bit different than both, they say.

It'll be a while before we see Doom 4 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167669). In fact, according to id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead, they're still hiring staff for the project. But they do know one thing at least. "It's not a sequel to Doom 3 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=2006909), but it's not a reboot either," Hollenshead told GameSpot (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6207773.html). "Doom 3 was sort of a reboot."

"It's a little bit different than those, and if I told you why, I would get my ass kicked when I got back. So I'll just have to leave it at that."

Hollenshead said that fans shouldn't worry though, as everything he's seen of it suggests that it's "classic Doom." At the same time though, it's still "very much deep in development."

id Software has a lot on their plate these days, as they're also developing the multiplatform title Rage as well as Quake Live (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3166423) and Wolfenstein (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3144327). The latter will be shown at E3, along with some "new stuff that we haven't announced yet."

Now I only hope this version has the Rock in it.

Why bother? Doom 3 was pretty for it's time, and was a fun game - for a couple of hours...but you've shown that Doom has become nothing more than one of the most redundant games of all time.

Why do it again?

I'm sort of hoping that it's a sequel to Doom II: Hell On Earth. But either way, it's going to be awesome and a definite buy, like every Doom game.

Glad its not a sequel and gonna be a totally new game :)

My guess it's gonna be a "reimagining".. just like how Doom 3 was a sudo-remake of Doom, Doom 4 (hopefully) be a remake of Doom 2. Imagine it: hell on earth on HD :p

id :rock

No matter what anybody says id deserve respect, they invented the genre. Sure Unreal, Half Life, Medal Of Honour, Goldeneye, Far Cry, Halo, GOW & COD are front runners these days but back in the day everyone adored Doom and all the custom maps, skins, mods it brought to the old DOS 386/486 PC gaming community.

I so hope id can actually bring a game to the consoles that blows the market to pieces and make them noticed again, none of the Wolfenstien/Doom/Heretic or Quake sequels/offshoots transferred to massive console sales like they've deserved. I wish them luck with Rage and especially with Doom 4 because as much as I've enjoyed so many fps over the years nothing and I mean nothing as made my jaw drop like the original shareware version of Doom (it blew the gaming scene away and was as essential to gaming development as Space Invaders, Pacman & Super Mario Bros)

I heard recently that this is indeed a remake of Doom 3 from the original Xbox. It's adding 7 levels not seen before and i'd imagine multiplayer as well.

hopefully, it'll turnout great.

Personally I think Doom 3 BFG edition in a way may give some clues to Doom 4. I'm going to keep thinking doom 4 is hell on earth.

After looking at some stuff, especially the Doom Bible (http://5years.doomworld.com/doombible/), I've got a few guesses as to what Doom 4 will be.

It will either be Hell on Earth, a sequel to Doom 2, a sequel to Doom 64, or it will be a new game using a lot of stuff from the Doom Bible. If Doom 4 isn't any of these things then I will become Catholic.

DOOM's never let met down! As long as there is another game, and it stays somewhat true to the DOOM feel, I'm all ears!

Just bought Doom 3 BFG and realized this is one of my favorite games. I still have my Doom 3 Collectors Edition (Xbox). Can't Wait.
