So we all know that feeling, a new game comes out, you've been listening to all the hype about it, the reviews are great, all your friends are taling about it,and then you buy it and your left thinking, "is this it?". i've felt this way certainly with halo 3 and also partly with GTAIV and probably plenty of other games I just cant think of any at the moment. So what is your most over-rated game?

dude you named theeee over-rated games , halo was amazing but there was waay to much hype IMO but GTA was my biggest let down , I think just because my expectations were soooo high for it :( I got bored of driving about lol

Wont be long before everyone starts saying halo. :p

Mehh, i thought GTA wasn't as good as it seemed. Fallout 3 was the biggest for me. Granted there is so much to do in the game but i played it casually first and found the story very very short. A good game yes, but not the best imo.

Mass effect, gears and perfect dark. :p

Halo 3 and Far Cry 2 were a let down for me. Neither lived up to the hype.

Halo 3.
Far Cry 2.
Call of Duty:World at War.
Halo Wars.
Skate 2.
Fallout 3.
Mirror's Edge.

Mirrors Edge, good call. The story in that game was terrible and the cartoon cutscenes didn't help it.

I think Halo3 and GTA IV. Halo 3 because everyone thinks it is a god send and GTA IV was quite a let down. But I must admit they are quite fun.

World at War. Way to damn short, and no where near exciting (other than zombie mode. :P)

Even though it is one of my all-time favorite games I would probably go with Halo 3, or possibly GTA IV. These are both great games and I enjoyed each of them, but there are simply certain levels of hype that no game can possibly be expected to live up to and these two games are examples of that. A great game can still be over-rated.

Since Halo 3 was the first of the series I played, I thought it was good. Definitely wasn't disappointed.

Honestly, the only game to come out recently that I just didn't care for, even with the MEGA amount of hype, was Street Fighter IV. I was so excited for it, but then after playing for a few hours, it just didn't have the same spice and longevity as Street Fighter II.

Maybe it was because of the hype more than anything, but when I finally got my hands on the game, it just was far from what I was expecting.

Don't think I've ever bought a game and been let down. I mean, I've played some crap games that I knew were crap, but I've never bought a game which had huge hype and been let down. I love Halo, GTA and Call of Duty despite how over-hyped they are.

Fable 2, they hype the game so much then I find the game is so short and the game in general no where near the quality of the original. GTA IV is another one, they made it look nice but it took away what made the series great.

Fallout 3 and Bioshock for me. Both are good but there predecessors were better. Oblivion and Fallout 2 were both better then Fallout 3 and System Sock 2 murders Bioshock.

GTA 4 and Fallout 3.

I loved messing around with the swingset glitch and doing stunts in the airport but can't bring myself to do anything else in that game, one day maybe.

With Fallout 3 I just can't get into it, I played Oblivion for hours on end but with this I just can't be bothered.

Fable 2...i was looking forward to this for months, but when I was finaly playing it, it was over so fast....That, and it was too simple...too lineair (which also explains why it was over so fast).

Others i was kinda disappointed with were GTA IV and Assasins Creed. Though I thought both were real fun to play.

Halo 3 was a big let down for me.. I got bored of its MP very fast. and its stupid extra acheevs.

And fable 2 was a huge let down.. it was fun, but way to linear and short.

FEAR 2, A lot shorter than the first game, (Beat it overnight on the hardest difficulty), too easy on the hardest difficulty, Multiplayer was dumbed down and Gamestop's total advertisements of "Going to be a real great game" were false advertisements.

It was fun for those 29 hours it lasted, compared to the 350+ i spent on GTA SA

Going with Fable 2 here. Don't get me wrong, though. Played the game. Liked it. Just wasn't really amazed by anything. I've seen people around here with signatures that say "Fable 2 > Life" and I'm just wondering how bad their life must be

Personally the "Most Over-Rated Game" that i own in my collection has to be Halo 3 since it gets boring really fast in my opinon.

Other games love Halo 3 but to me i got bored fast.

I would have to say Braid. I bought it when it was on sale recently after reading all the reviews about how it was this fantastic game that was revolutionary, etc... While I did agree that the mechanics in the game were very interesting and new, I thought the story was terrible, vague, and uninteresting. I also thought that the overall gameplay was rather bland and not what the hype was leading me to believe. So glad I at least saved 400 points on this one...

Im gonna have to say Halo 3 on this one. The campaign was excellent but the multiplayer just flat out sucks IMO. I didnt like it at first and after playing other FPS games online (CoD 4, BF:BC) I disliked it even more. Only played it to get the achievements and I doubt I'll go back for the 750 new points.

To be honest i gotta say Oblivion...

I have to agree, i bought this cheap and pre-owned because I heard great things about it.
It is terrible, glitchy and the voice acting / overall atmosphere is just so false.
Sure there is heaps of content, but if the game isn't polished, then that point ceases to exist.

Either that or Gears of War.
Again, heard it was a great third-person shooter, with a great story etc...
It was just garbage, the story is just about another alien invasion and the dialogue is full of shitty one-liners. The online play was clunky and slow yet still so many people play it...

Unlike what everyone thinks, GTA was amazing.
But the biggest overrated games have to be halo 3 and fable 2.
Bought both, and they really sucked.
I played through most of it because i wanted to feel like i felt my money on something.

Oblivion is amazing.

Voice acting and "atmosphere" aren't supposed to be the game's strong points. Exploring an open world, completing quests, leveling up, and getting better gear are the game's strongpoints. If you can't get over some under par voice acting, a lack of "atmosphere," and some glitches (which are present in every game) that don't have a large effect on gameplay, then I pity the fact that you probably won't be enjoying ANY game.

If you want to talk overrated, let's talk Mass Effect.

well obviously Halo, but also Fable II, that game sucked in my opinion and I cant see why it got so much acclaim...I know Xplay sucks but they gave it game of the year......that just makes them suck even worse.....it makes me mad when better games were made that year

Halo 3. I can understand how it is addictive to others but the game is not all it is cracked up to be. The first Halo holds it's place but I just don't see what's so great as 2 and 3 just seem to be polished versions of the original with online play. Fun game (for many)? Sure. One of the more popular 360 games? Sure. Does it belong in the discussion of greatest games for the 360? Certainly not.

I would have to say Fable 2 and Oblivion myself. Fable 2 was fun for the short time you played it but the ending left you meh. Oblivion would be ok but I just can't get into that kind of levelling system.

It is just so dull. It has everything, yet not one aspect of the game shows quality. The leveling is stupid too, why do I have to sleep to gain some points in agility?
Plus the physics engine is horrid.
But the worst part about Oblivion is the combat.

Mass Effect on the other hand, I found the story compelling, the graphics great (although frame rate was an issue) and the gameplay fun, even if it was a little unbalanced at sometimes.

Anyway, not trying to create an argument, just my opinion ;)

For me it's Halo 3. I was never a fan of the Halo series. All my friends play it and think I'm crazy because I have an Xbox 360 and don't own Halo 3.
