I don't want to cause worry for all of us who love our "cheevos," but the 360 is coming up on the console life expancy limit in the next couple of years. Has there been any work about what's next, & if MS would plan to carry our hard-earned stats over to whatever system replaces the 360? Or is the "Elite" considered the newest system, with the 360 platform & improved hardware? Initial reports last year speculated a new system in 2011 or 2012. Anyone ... ?

in my opinion itīs too early to worry about it.
if they were to make a next generation xbox they would probably allow the use of the old gamertag anyway.

as he said above me, theres no point worrying about it now. worry about it when MS announce a new console.

There won't be a next console for a WHILE, with Project Natal and all the upcoming games-updates it would be stupid for them to do that.

Microsoft has already stated that achievements gained on the 360 will be transferred to the next Xbox console so that shouldn't be a problem and as far as the life expectancy, like everyone said above me, with the new crap coming out for it, don't expect any news anytime soon about a new Xbox.

This must be the 10th thread regarding concerns over our GS being carried over to the next console and every time people will tell you that it's very much likely that it will be carried over.
I don't want to be a dick but next time use the search tool.:)

Why are so many people worried about transferring their GS to the new console lately?

MS Corporate Vice President has come out and said that he is expecting the 360 to stick around until 2015 mainly because of Natal.

it'll probably go along the lines of Microsoft will release a FUCKING HUGE Harddrive for the 360...we're talking ridiculous memory,

then Download Content for games will be replaced by Downloadable games... discs will become a thing of the past much like cartridges were replaced.

just a hunch...

Nightbeam and jason86586 have pretty much hit the nail on the head. At the E3 press conference they seemed to make it pretty clear that Natal is going to make the current 360 more accessible for everyone. The way they said I'd assume they're looking at getting a 360 in every home, after all thats exactly what Gates' wanted to do with PC's! I think at the worse they may bring out a new 360, same console, just with better specs (bigger hard drive for eg, expecially to compensate for the games on demand thing thats coming).

I believe that the Project Natal announcement is a clear indication that Microsoft is committed to keeping this console viable for a few more years, at least. While I have no doubt that there is behind closed doors production being done on the next console, I'd be surprised if we saw anything before at least 2012...

I dont think there will be new consoles for a while because...
1. Xbox has recently stated that the 360 is gonna be around till 2015 (thats if the world doesn't end in 2012 lol)
2. The PS3 makers are always talking about how the PS3 is not even close to reaching its potential, so Im guessing there gonna keep it around for a while.
3. Nintendo Wii is the best selling system of this generation and I can't see Nintendo putting a new system out for at least 5 years, especially with the new motion controls that they are coming out with.

I find it funny how the OP's opening sentence makes it seem as if the apocalypse is upon us, lmao!:woop:

as mentioned above the XBOX is expected to be around at 2015, so we are really no where near the "console life expancy" we still have over 6 years

I wouldn't expect the next round of consoles until at least 2015.

Take it you haven't been keeping up with E3? 2015 is the life expenctancy thus far, so I wouldn't worry just yet.

i hope it kinda doesnt get carried over. I suppose i do for all my hard earned achieviees, but they should eliminate games like avatar, should make people actually work for achievements if they do release a new console

He hasn't made a post beyond the initial one.
