I'll be updating this as much as possible.
If I've made a mistake just let me know and I'll correct it.

Complete a play.
For it to count as a play you must get an ending, it does not matter which one you obtain. If you die it will not count as completing a play.

There are 21 different endings. You'll receive different endings based on the choices you make in game. I'll write up a more detailed guide in the future.

Just play normally and this will eventually pop up. You should get this fairly early in the game, using your Y attack while an enemy is blocking is a good way to get this.

You will LOSE points every time you harm an innocent.

The 3 secret achievements will be added once I unlock them for myself. The translations are:

I found this website with a list of the trophies for the PS3 version, and according to your list they are very similar to the 360 version, if not exactly the same. Just thought you might find it interesting. This way you can add english names to the achievements.

Here it is:

Cannot wait for this game to come out. Screw Rocktober 13th.

I wouldn't say that, Brutal Legends is a pretty good game. I'm not at all into rock but I try my best to refrain from any bias when measuring how much value I put on the game.

It sucks how screwed up the preorder process is right now for Way of the Samurai 3, but hopefully at least one of the stores in my region will have it available.

Nonetheless this isn't the type of game that needs an in-depth walkthrough because of it's sandbox design. Most of the achievements there that aren't specified are just weapon art mastery achievements anyways.

By the way, has anyone here had success receiving a copy from one of their local GameStop stores? I was actually able to receive The Art and Strategy of the Warring States bonus disc yesterday at my local mall, but they, ironically, won't be getting the actual game.

The endings will need a good walkthrough, and the guy working on the guide said he was working on one, but hasn't posted anything about it since then.

If you check on gamefaqs there is a walkthrough and on it it shows you how to get 21 endings (I don't if there's 21 endings total but at least there is a base to start from). What I am mad about is that this guy who made this guide has put no effort into it, he hasn't even switched the achievements to english text (I don't have the game so I can't do any better), so I'm sure someone else can make a WAY better achievement guide. This game is so technical with it's ending and other achievements that I won't even play it yet and a very well made guide will be required.

It's alleged that there are 21 endings--I haven't seen a confirmation from an official source so far concerning it other than the game cover which states there are over 15--but knowing the description of the achievements isn't a problem when you have the database of this site and GameFaqs.

And this isn't the type of game anyone can breeze through by any means, so mediocre achievement guide or great achievement guide you still have to factor in the mastering of every fighting style, your ending skill rank, and more if you want to earn every achievement.

I completely agree with you there because this game is like DMC4/Ninja Gaiden in that although you can have an achievement guide the game would still require pure skill. But the guide will be necessary for the weapon skills, titles, jobs, character skills, outfits and of course the endings, so I believe that this will be a game that the guide would have to be followed religiously in order to get the 1000.

There are 22 different endings. It says in your character record there are 29, but that's because 7 of them are the different staff credits that you get depending on your ending.

The game is not hard to get full achievement completion, it just takes time. Currently on 52 hours, need to grind a bit more for all the endings (saving the True ending for last). Difficulty probably 2/10. And I'm pretty bad at action/adventure games (mostly a button masher).

You do not need to collect any outfits, and only 20 out of the 50 titles are required. Many titles can be obtained in 5 minutes, so you will get this much quicker than you expect if you're aiming for it.

I would write a guide, but since I'm playing the Japanese version it would be pointless unless someone would give me the English names for all the stuff.

Edit: Line breaks

I don't know how normal it is for you to put over 50 hours into a game but it's quite an extreme for the average player, and should only be expected from, at most, two-disced RPGs. Realistically, the difficulty level for the achievements would have to be at least 7/10 because of the strict guide following it requires.

Man I have to say, this game would be so much better if it just had more music and you actually had enough knowledge in the game to know your situation: you know what to do next/what will likely happen next, and so on. If Acquire did just that much you wouldn't have to rely so much on a guide just to get more replay value out of the game, because when I play it it really feels like I'm a completely ignorant samurai wandering through a province of feudal Japan begging someone to hint at what I should be doing.

Well, a lot of the 50 hours were spent fooling around getting weapon parts, collecting outfits and other random stuff not related to achievements. It's 20-30 hours to ~900GS following a guide, 50 hours for 1000 GS with guide, probably 150-200 hours playing the game `as it should be played' (i.e. without guide and without using any tricks).

I gave it a 2/10 achievement difficulty because I followed a guide. Without it, it would probably be like what you said, a 7-8/10.

I also agree with you that the game doesn't give you any idea on what to do to get the different endings. It's a catch 22, you only know what to do once you've already done it. The number of actual triggers to get a particular ending is actually quite few, the rest of the events you trigger are just filler and are not related, but if you accidentally trigger too many events related to another ending, you have to start over. That was what particularly ticked me off.

True. I feel the first two games had much more structure in this regard.
Is there a guide that give a detailed walkthrough for each ending? i'm so lost about how this one plays out i've resorted to just killing to collect weapons. Fun, but I can't sell my junk or buy food. lol

Yeah you're right, the previous two games did have more structure in that regard. I still find it stupid how just any random cutscene you, by majority, unwittingly come across can contribute significantly to an ending. DJnerate is the only user here who's said that he used a guide, but he's Japanese. As of right now, unfortunately, your instruction manual and a few tips from one of the mediocre faqs on GameFaqs is the best route, although if you download the strategy guide I listed in the 'PDFs for Art and Strategy Guide' topic you might be helped a little by its 15 pages of information.

By the way, if anyone could answer this question of mine I'd be appreciative.

Yesterday I got the achievement for mastering every skill for my first weapon--that being my spear--but for some reason didn't get the spear stance mastery achievement as well. My weapon has a golden star in the bottom right corner of the avatar of my spear and the "Mastered All Skills" template is shining away. Could anyone explain what I, presumably, didn't yet do to earn the mastery achievement? Thank you.

Jaden Arbiter
11-11-2009, 03:36 PM
Ok, I didn't get the achievement because there are relatively 10 weapons for every art--of course, aside from Bare Hands--that have their own unique skills to master, though 1/3 or 1/4 of their skills might overlap with another weapon of that type.

I find this negative because of how unrealistic of an element it is, but I guess in any case it's fair replay value.

And, if you actually had the game, and bothered to try following those walkthroughs, you'd know that half of the endings are missing sections, or are incomplete (or information is wrong in them). Yes, I'm using a walkthrough from gamefaqs, and yes I was able to get a few endings from it, but those endings are the only ones that are actually well-informed.

Ok, I didn't get the achievement because there are relatively 10 weapons for every art--of course, aside from Bare Hands--that have their own unique skills to master, though 1/3 or 1/4 of their skills might overlap with another weapon of that type.

Yes, the most time-consuming achievements for this game is the Stance Mastery ones. However, you're slightly off about Bare Hands being the only one that doesn't need weapons to unlock the skills. Dual Sword, and Ninja Dual Sword can both be unlocked by just buying scrolls, like Bare Hands.

Does anyone have any tips at all in getting a weapon with no durability? Every enemy I have fought doesn't attack enough to break any sword I have. And since the person that made this "guide" didn't even give any tips (not to mention he's not going to work on this at all anymore, it seems), all I can really do is ask someone else here, if anyone else has those achievements.

EDIT: Also, does anyone know if completing 50 jobs has to be done in one playthrough, or are they cumulative?

I don't believe there are any broken weapons for you to find in the game that you yourself didn't break so your best choice is to head to Kuchigahara, find a stick, and have it's durability of one dropped to zero -- which should happen by blocking basic x attacks from an enemy.

Lol no, you don't need to do 50 jobs in one playthrough, it's a cumulative achievement.

alright, so for anyone else that has been checking back here hoping for a better guide to find one still absent, I went over to http://www.ps3trophies.org/game/way-of-the-samurai-3/guide/
and the guide is really good, all the achievements are the same (i think, didnt look much into that) and the ending/weapon/partner/title guides are incredibly detailed. Of course you'll have to remember that when they say "X" they mean "A" translated into 360. But anyways, if your still playing like i am and still need this information, check it out. i highly recommend it.

Man Thank You so much for this! I would've never thought to check out the sister site, although it makes sense since this game is giving more respect and has a bigger following on PS3.

I can see this being one of those games that I'll spend months wanting to play, but not enough to buy it, so I'll only rent it, but I'll never get around to renting it because nobody will manage a complete and comprehensive guide.
