Those are RPGs...not sandbox games.

They are sandbox games. The term just means open world games where you can do whatever whenever

GTA IV, Fable 2 as well as both Saints Row games would have to be my top favorite sandbox style games.

gta 3 ...gta 3

lol I think thats more nostalgia than anything becasue I just remember sitting for hours driving and shooting , getting arrested, killing hookers etc..etc..etc..

ahh the good ol' days - [prototype] was fun as well but not really a match for some other games , it jsut hasnt been mentioned yet -maybe for good reason lol :P

My Favorite sandbox game on this gen would of course have to be GTA4, still have no idea why people are hating on it.
My favorite of all time is hands down, GTA:SA.

Saints row 2, Its great without cheats and even better with them, Nothing beats putting on low gravity, and doing 6 backflips and a wheely in one jump over 4 buildings and a motorway :D

Or going through a tunnel with a plane then coming out the other end.

I cant think of any other games atm, Gta iv was ok, But i never experimented with diffrent things, So i havent had a giant fight in the middle of the street yet with loads of stars.

not even a contest. I don't have to play all of this game to know its better than all others InFamous.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Only thing Oblivion has on this are the graphics.

I second that, Morrowind is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Oblivion is good too, but knee high to the Morrowind giant.

Grand theft auto has always been a fun game with a wide map range. More so than olbivion. But oblivion and FO3 are both decently fun.

Out of movement though, oblivion has much more explorability. FO3 is so limited. The smallest rock blocks your movement.

Saints Row 2.

Oblivion used it's great outside world for crap! You always fought in underground tunnels(meeeeeh) the only time you could fight against alot of guys on outside doors was when you resisted arrest.

Vice City for me was the greatest Sandbox city of all time!
after that it'd be san andreas.

For me it's definitely Crackdown. I love that game and can't wait for #2.
Also, Assassin's Creed was a repetitive game but it had some fun moments, such as assassinating someone and then intentionally getting spotted to outrun the guards.

I'd have to say Fallout 3 and Oblivion on the 360. Both have great stories and have tons of stuff to do.

For the 360 Fallout3 close second is Saints Row 2 (it's just to over the top not to love)

GTA IV is quality but it is nothing on GTA Vice City that is the best in the series by a long long way.

My favourite (sandbox) game for the Xbox 360 is probably Assassin's Creed. I like how you can just go wherever you want and just roam the cities. Getting to the top of the clocktower in Acre never gets old.;) And you gotta love the achievements for it too. (Except for the flag ones they're the only thing keeping me getting 1000/1000 .

I am 100% with you on this one Method. Crackdown was so much fun to pick up the gang members and throw them off a building and then ricket launch the crap out of them. Assassins creed was great for its ingenuity and its gameplay, but it did get repetitive once you realized that you did the same 3 missions over and over.

All time Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
But I also like Saints Row 1 and 2

Not a huge fan of sandbox games, but Red Faction's story mode was so fun. Oblivion is right behind it, as I see other people including RPG's as a sandbox game.
