I've recently got into playing co op with my son and we've finished Gears 2 and are currently wading through Gears on insane :) Can anyone give me some ideas for good co op games (with achievments if poss) or let me know their favourite coop game.

These are the only ones I can think of, most are under $20:

Gears of War 1
Army of Two
Kane & Lynch
Left 4 Dead
Resident Evil 5
Halo 3
Call of Duty: WaW
Fable 2

Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 & 2 are great fun co-op, both playing through the stories and the terrorist hunts. I'd also recommend Resident Evil 5 and Left4Dead.

Why does everyone continue to mention Gears, he said he is currently playing it.

Are you on the same console or each with your own?

Army of Two is a solid coop playthrough and most of the achievements aren't too bad.
Halo 3 is a good one as well.
I'm not a fan of the RSV games but both are good and offer local coop.
I didn't get into Resident Evil 5, but it's also a good choice.
The Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games have local coop missions you can play but the story isn't coop and are solid efforts as well.
Depending on what you like the LEGO games are coop and can be fun.

Any of the Lego games are great fun. Try GH, or RB. Halo:CE (yes the xbox original) is a great campaign experience and is a lot of fun co-op, so long as you aren't too big on graphics. I wouldn't say Fable cause it isn't that great co-op. Castle Crashers is a lot of fun co-op, as is Alien Hominid, but Alien Hominid is a little hard.

Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2
Halo 3
Left 4 Dead

Rainbow Six Vegas was the most fun I've had on co-op in a long time on a console game.

Halo 2 and 3 immediately come to mind. Both are great shooters with faster movements and action than Gears of War. They're first person shooters, which you'll find much different than Gears of War, but still enjoyable.

Also, if you liked Gears of War 2 co-op, you'll love the co-op for the first Gears of War. Practically the only way you can beat both games on Insane is with a friend who is decent at the game.

Another one worth looking into is Resident Evil 5. Out of all the co-op games I've played, I'd say this one requires the most strategy and communication, seeing as how it's almost entirely based around partner combat. Swapping items on the fly, giving your ally a boost to a high place they couldn't reach otherwise, and just plain out watching your ally's back is basically the gist of it.

Have fun playing with your son. Co-op gaming is my favorite form of gaming.

Left 4 Dead is the first thing that comes to mind, howEVER... if you two play with JUST you two in local play, this wont be a fun experience. The splitscreen in L4D has poor graphics, and the game is meant to be played with 4 players anyway.

Halo 3 is a great multiplayer game with plenty achievements that are easily done with two people.

Agreed. It seems Valve built this game around Multiplayer. I personally think this is the funnest game I've played in ages. I beat all the expert campaigns with people from this site. The versus mode is where its at though. I have so much fun playing versus.

Crackdown & Saints Row are great co-ops... So were both GRAW's too actually!

This place has a good list for Co-Ops, check it out:

I absolutely loved Army of Two. It's brilliant in co-op, and only 1 achievement will give you trouble. (Retirement Savings Plan)
Left 4 Dead is also a blast to play in co-op.

Well you did mention achievements, so I would suggest Spider-Man FoF. I did all but one achievement from that game in local co op, and getting the last one myself was so boring. It's surprisingly fun in co op though and a very easy 1k.

Again as stated before Borderlands, Resident Evil 5 and Splosion man are great games for co op too.

Pick any from this list and you cant go wrong although Halo:ODST is pretty short so Halo 3 would be a better choice :)

i came on here sure that someone would find it helpful if i said

Halo series
Rainbow 6 Series

it appears theres another 32 of the same repies so i decided to try and come up with something different...

Conflict Global Storm (for original xbox) was probably the first game i played in Co-op and absolutely loved it... it was the first time i stopped hitting my brother because he threw a grenade at my feet (jk) we both got stuck into that game and is probably one of my favourite gaming experience.... but just saying... i dont get on with my brother one bit, were completely different people, im sure if you have a connection (obv) that you will get even more from it

Such a pity that they don't make Games like Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes, Hunter the Reckoning, good Conflict Desert Storm Games anymore.
It was always fun to play these (up to 4 player) coop games locally.

My favorite co-ops were Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and GoW2. Vegas because we could play the story and terrorist hunts for hours and not get bored, and GoW2, because it was the only game I could get my girl to play, and was pretty good at.

Haven't played many other games in coop:
Red Dead Redemption
Left 4 Dead (2)

I also have played the first mission in Gears 2 with my girlfriend when I first got my 360 and that was fun, I haven't played since.
