View Full Version : No additional Battlefield 1943 content currently in development

Sad news from the front, soldiers. DICE (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DICE/) is not currently working on any new Battlefield 1943 (http://joystiq.com/tag/battlefield-1943) maps or content for the downloadable hit, which has now drafted over a million players. Speaking with Joystiq, DICE Producer Gordon Van Dyke said the company is definitely working on the game's squad-swapping bug -- he believes it's a server-side fix that will hopefully be resolved soon -- but that all the effort at the moment is being put behind getting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (http://joystiq.com/tag/battlefield-bad-company-2) out the door.

"We need to figure out what's the best thing for the community. What's the best thing for the franchise?" Van Dyke told us about why the online hit isn't getting further development attention. He currently has "no idea" about when the company will get to work on more content for Battlefield 1943. That certainly calls for a sad face emoticon, don't you think? :(

Well that sucks. I was wishing for a new map or two, but if it is for the better of the community then I guess we don't need it.(?)

Thats a damn shame. im kinda getting bored of the 4 maps now. perhaps they are telling fibs and are actually working on some more. it has been known for developers to lie about these things.

Disappointing, but far from surprising. I have a feeling even just one map would take them a while to do, and they have more important things to focus on right now. Oh well, here's to hoping!

well let's hope for the best this game got my vote for arcade goty

Aww, nadgers. I was hoping for some more maps...

it's definately getting harder for me to push through to the final achievement of 100 matches played when i'm already getting a bit bored of the maps :(

The game really needs more maps but on the other hand they are working on making BC 2 much better. Its kinda a Win/Lose situation.

I'm beyond bored of the four maps now, yet I still have the odd quick go on it every now and again, new maps would sell and add more life to the game.

Not surprised by this. Probably going to get that last achievement and retire the game for a while.

How do they make all sorts of DLC for unpopular games that no one buys but give them a number one hit game and they say they don't plan on making any DLC for it.

Clearly BF is a hit - makes some maps...

I didn't think I'd get tired of the 4 maps but I haven't even played the game since batman came out - and next week its NHL 09...

"Today at GamesCom in Germany, the Battlefield team announced that Battlefield 1943 has been downloaded over 1,000,000 times! They've also posted the newest trailer on the Battlefield Blog (www.battlefield.com) and news about an exclusive pre-order item!..."

So at $15/download or close to $20 in Canadian currency, they made 15-20 million on this game.... isn't another few million worth a new map or two. I'm confused....

I guess I'm one of the only people who don't really care that there is no DLC in the workings...

It isn't like I didn't like the game or anything because the game is really amazing for an arcade title and it is a lot of fun. But, I only play it every once in awhile, just to keep its gameplay interesting. I definitely wouldn't pay for any extra content and I'm happy with what the game has to offer as of now.

So yea, no sad face emoticon for me.

Disappointing, No new map or new achievement. Why the hell I pay to much MSP in first place and will be no more DLC. This SUCK

If you only played this game for the achievements, I am truly sad for you for having not taken the time to enjoy the experience.

the fact is that Bad Company 2 will be so much greater after DICE give it their undivided attention, and im sure that will have DLC in the pipeline, its just a case of waiting it out.

plus with MW2 just around the corner there should be no need for any other shoot em ups, or DLC.

I was just looking at xbox.com's page for BF1943 and noticed it has "Content Downloads" listed. What is this referring to? It's a little misleading if they're referring to Coral Sea since it's part of the original game file.
