View Full Version : "BRUTAL DEFEAT"?! wth??

I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence, because it's happened to me twice now (and I haven't played TOO much multiplayer as of yet). I was in a 2 vs. 2 game on Pleasure Gardens, and both teams were Ironheade. My teammate and I went straight to work getting fanbooths built up on both sides of the map, working our way to the opponent's side. We were straight mowing them down as they came, and we got to Stage level 3 fairly quickly.

We never let up, always advancing, and pretty quickly were at the enemy's gates (figuratively speaking, of course). We easily took their fan geysers and had a full army at our command (fire barons, headbangers, headsplitters, etc.) and we stopped our opponents from building units.

Then we started decimating their stage, which they had no way of saving at this point, but then just as it seemed like our victory was in the bag (and could've sworn that their stage was about to crumble), it gave us the message "BRUTAL DEFEAT" without warning. Now they had absolutely NOTHING at our base, not even an avatar, yet we lost somehow. No rhyme or reason for it, at all.

So, I ask you, has this ever happened to anyone else before? And is it common? Because that b.s. defeat almost makes me want to never pick this game up again, especially since it's happened TWICE now (out of 14 games total, of which 8 are wins, instead of my rightful 10).

A similar thing happened to me in a 2v2 game also, we just assumed it was a lag issue or a glitch, it wasn't a big deal since it was just a player match, but still it's weird.

What I've seen a LOT of people doing, is playing Drowning Doom... they'll summon a Bride and run with it Double-Team style over to the enemy stage, hide behind the corners, and spam it. They can be hard to see on some maps.

Did your teammate surrender? That is all I can think of but don't see why they would do that if you were winning unless they were just being a jerk.

Well, I've never seen that tactic before, but in any case, the enemy was Ironheade, and there was nothing attacking our stage, at all. My teammate was even at our stage when the game ended and there was nothing there.

I really do like the multiplayer quite a bit, and playing with friends by your side is a blast, but when something like this happens, it just sours the whole experience.

Nah, I highly doubt my friend surrendered just as we were about to win. He was just as pissed and shocked when he saw we lost as I was. Plus, this isn't the first time this has happened; the first time I was playing a 1v1 game.

They may have built roadies. They can go invisible so you wouldnt have seen them and they decimate a stage pretty quick

That could be possible if it wasn't for the fact that there was no indication that our stage was under attack, AND my teammate was at our stage when the game ended, which had no damage done to it.

Hmm this is odd. Well even if it is roadies you can still see them, they are just faded. Well in single player I know they are, I usually take down the enemy online before they can even build up to that stage level. Anyways the alarm for the stage being attacked would have gone off.

I've played 12 matches online so far, 10 wins and 2 losses, and I've never had this happen.

well if they were playing as Ironheade and you had control of all the fan spots then thats hard to say because they wouldn't have had the funding to get up to roadies (which aren't just faded when they aren't attacking their completely invisible) so your partner must have given up thats the only way you can lose your stage without it ever being attacked, if they had been Drowning Doom i would've said next time check the corners of your stages for stormclouds, and if they had been the Tainted coil i would've said check the sides of your stages for pain parties =P

They are only faded if you are right by them, but if you're flying overhead or looking from a distance they are completely invisible. And it only takes 6-8 roadies to pretty much insta kill a stage =) pretty cheap IMO, but I play tainted coil... they easily counter nub ass players that spam fire barons.
