One of the best parts of the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino retro cultfest Grindhouse (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/749/749962.html) was the collection of fake trailers for coming attractions played in between the double feature. And one of the best of those was for a fictional film Machete (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/143/14343587.html). Starring Danny Trejo (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912883.html) as the titular badass Mexican assassin, it outlines a story in which he's double crossed by some politically well-connected white guys and takes his revenge with the help of a gun-toting priest (played by Cheech Marin (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/914/914514.html)).

At the time, it was all just an idea in Rodriguez's head. Now, the complete film is a reality, and according to Trejo, it should be hitting theaters in August or September of this year. IGN had the opportunity to talk to Trejo recently about Machete (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/142/14260891.html), and whether fans can expect it to live up to the promise of the trailer.

"It is going to be awesome," Trejo promises. "We duplicate scenes from the trailer in the movie. What that movie has is the three B's, what I like to call the three B's. And what that is is babes, bullets and blood. And then it's got machetes, too. The film takes off from the trailer and then it just gets so over the top. I think the movie really lives up to the trailer. I'm really, really proud of it."

Fans can expect to see Trejo performing motorcycle jumps and throwing machetes. Oh, and: "I dive out of a window on a guy's guts. It's really just unbelievable."

The film features an all-star cast, including Marin and Jeff Fahey (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/963/963728.html) reprising their roles in the trailer, as well as Robert De Niro (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/916/916297.html), Jessica Alba (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/913/913952.html), Lindsay Lohan (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/913/913082.html), Michelle Rodriguez (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911689.html), Steven Seagal (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/915/915198.html) and Don Johnson (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912942.html).

"What a cast," Trejo says with a whistle. "I asked Robert, 'How did you get that cast?' He said, 'My wishing rock.' You know, like in Shorts. Everybody wanted to work with Robert Rodriguez (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/915/915101.html)."

Trejo talked up Alba's role in particular: "What surprised me was Jessica Alba plays a badass in this. We were doing one scene where she gets up on this car and she's looking for me. Her line is, 'I'm looking for a man just like you.' And when she yelled that, everybody was like, 'Hey!' You know, raising their hand [laughs]. And she laughed and was kind of embarrassed. And I know when she yells that in the theater there's going to be a lot of guys who are like, 'Right here!'"

The prospect of satisfying the trailer's huge cult following may be a tall order, but Trejo knows what he's up against and he's not worried.

"Machete has a huge cult following, just from the trailer," he says. "I mean, in London, I was signing this guy's back because he'd gotten that picture of Machete tattooed on his back. I mean this big. I said, 'Boy, I hope you like the movie.' He says, 'We really like the trailer.' But after this comes out, he might have to go get another tattoo."

i'm pretty pleased they turned this into a full feature, and the cast is pretty awesome too, Robert De Niro!?!

Steven Seagal.. Oh my god, you guys, Steven Seagal. STEVEN SEAGAL!

This movie's going to be absolutely fantastic. I loved Grindhouse. The only thing it's missing is Bruce Willis.. Tsk. That would be insane, though. Steven Seagal and Bruce Willis in the same film? The world would explode.

Anyway, I can't wait.

This is some pretty old news if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe I've just been imagining the fact that Trejo wants to actually do Machete all this time. :p

I'll be very excited to be seeing this. Should be absolutely amazing!

This film definitely has potential to be very entertaining. They should just make films out of all the trailers from Grindhouse. Most of them would make quite amusing films.

What they should do, is keep making these Grindhouse style films, and then just release whatever the trailer was that was in the film. Though, it would probably turn into some milk-til-it's-dry bullshit. Much like the terrible fucking series known as SAW! :)

Personally I thought that was the weakest one. However, I find it quite bizarre there is a whole website that is under construction devoted just to that one.

Maybe that means they're taking that one seriously too? There have been discussions about making the trailer into an actual feature. It is rumored that shooting will begin in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2010.

That is kind of weird, I would think that it would just be a small time film if they did make one. A straight to DVD release or an internet kind of thing. Nova Scotia seems like an odd place to shoot for it though, I've never been there or really seen too many pictures of it but it seems like a really modern looking place for that kind of thing.
