It looks like Paramount is on the verge of signing a director for its inevitable Paranormal Activity (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/032/032013.html) sequel, and whereas the original film's helmer was a complete unknown, this time around we're getting a real Hollywood veteran.

Shock Till You Drop (http://shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=14478) is reporting that Akiva Goldsman (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911094.html) is about to lock down the job. Goldsman has written and/or produced such films as The Client, I Am Legend, The Da Vinci Code andů wait for itů Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. (OK, yeah, he also won an Oscar for adapting A Beautiful Mind.)

We'd heard last month (http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/107/1072201p1.html) that the legendary Brian De Palma (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/915/915743.html) of all people was in the running for the job along with lesser known helmers such as Greg McLean and Brad Anderson (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912604.html). But Goldsman is now the frontrunner. This would be his feature directing debut, though he has helmed a couple of episodes of Fringe and Kings.

Fuck this franchise and everything it stands for! It's stupid, not scary, childish, and cashed in way too much money.

What the hell would it even be about?
I mean, the first one was already pointless as it is.

Give it a decade and they'll still be milking it. In theaters in 2020: Saw XVII and Paranormal Activity XII.

Man, I even did the math to see if, keeping the way they're releasing the SAW films now, you were only off by a year! Haha! Good shit! I believe technically 2021 would be SAW 17.

That fact literally scares me. Much more than the movies themselves ever have.

That would be hilarious. I think by Saw 17 the directors would be out of ideas. As for Paranormal Fagtivity, that would just be plain dumb.

That's horrible! It's going to be a waste of time and money because the first one was a waste of time and money. It was so bad I almost threw up GR.

The home-made movie feel to films are my favourite (Blair Witch, Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity), and honestly, I think the first one was amazing with the fact it wasn't overdone like most horror movies these days. It's a shame Stephen Spielberg changed the ending to make it over dramatic, but I thought it was a masterpiece. It built suspense, it had the back story and it was well done. I hope this new director doesn't mess up the sequel.
