The Hobbit Films to Start Shooting in June

Ian McKellen, who is returning as Gandalf in the two films based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=40304), has confirmed a report (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=62130) from earlier this year about the start of filming on his official website (http://www.mckellen.com/cinema/index1.htm). The site says:

THE HOBBIT's, two films, start shooting in New Zealand in June. Filming will take over a year. Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth.

Guillermo del Toro will direct the two highly-anticipated films.

Very nice! I hope they're as good as the other LOTR films. Wait...TWO films? As in they're splitting it in half? I hadn't heard that. o_O

Sort of like Kill Bill, one film would be too long so they are releasing it in two parts.

From the book The Lord of the Rings spawned from The Hobbit about Bilbo. If nobody has ever read it The Simirillion is the sort of last book of the series and was great, check it out.

I'm curious how Del Toro will do with this, I wonder if he's going to ask for Peter Jackson's contribution. I'm still excited!

SMOG the dragon! I loved the Hobbit as a kid. I was way more into the hobbit than Lord of the Rings so I am much more excited about this than I was for LotR. Del Torro is the director? They is pretty good news as well. So Jackson will be taking the George Lucas approach to the Hobbit Like Lucas did with Empire and Jedi then. also good news.
Hopefully they get Hugo Weaving back for Elrond.

And Making it into 2 movies will likely be a good thing in the end as well.

I don't understand why there is a third movie. I don't get how they can turn such a short book into a movie. Someone enlighten me..

I've forgotten that there are going to be 3 movies now...at this point, Jackson should make a movie adaptation of The Simillarion and make 3 movies out of that! I'm a genius.

I cannot wait for them all to be out.
Then we will have to wait for the inevitable Director's Cut/Extended Versions to be released....
I was figuring that it will probably take a full 24 hours to watch all 6 extended cut versions of these movies (Which is fine by me). As the original version add up to a little over 12 hours.

Because Peter Jackson lost his printing press and needs more money? I don't know...

I still don't understand why there are going to be 3 movies?!

Because there is plenty of content in the Hobbit to do 3 films with.

The book seems really short so I don't know how they will stretch it into two hour and a half movies. I mean I haven't finished the book yet, but I guess if Peter Jackson wants to do that then I trust him to do a good job with it.

Can only hope they capture the hobbit as well as they did LOTR. Going off the trailer and the fact it is split over 2 movies I'm expecting an absolute blockbuster.
