Are you hungry to see Will Smith (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911041.html) and Jeff Goldblum (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912658.html) defeat another alien invasion with nothing more than a laptop and a pair of cigars? Then you may be in luck, for the talk of a sequel to Independence Day (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/833/833240.html) just won't die. And in fact, now the scuttlebutt has two new ID4 pictures being made.

IESB (http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8874:independence-day-sequel-may-be-closer-to-happening-than-ever-before&catid=41:news&Itemid=71), who seems to be Goldblum to 20th Century Fox's Smith with the scoops they get from inside that studio, is reporting that they've received a tip that the former Fresh Prince is now locked for ID4 2 and ID4 3.

"The plan would be to shoot both films back-to-back," says the site. "Whether the studio opts to go the Matrix route and release the two films six months apart or do like the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and split them by a year remains to be seen. According to our sources, if all goes according to plan, the sequel(s) could shoot as early as 2011."

One of the obstacles to getting a sequel made in the past has been Smith's exorbitant price tag, but apparently Fox has deemed that an acceptable risk. The plan, if it happens, will have the original's director Roland Emmerich (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/916/916187.html) -- who talked up the two-sequel idea (http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/104/1044992p1.html) back in November -- helming after his thriller Anonymous is done; the production start will also have to wait until Smith finishes his next picture (either Men in Black 3 or The City That Sailed).

I would love to see a sequel to this. I still have some of my Independence Day toys!

Hmmm, the first one was great...the problem with sequels to movies like that is that they're usually either really good, or really bad, rarely any middle ground between the two.

I don't know how they'll top the 1st movie. As far as the story goes, the only reasonable plot that would make sense to me is if the same Alien species send another fleet from their own homeworld to Earth to finish where 1st fleet failed. First movie had a great plot, and therefore why I loved the movie. I don't know how they'll develop the 2nd and 3rd. Because Will Smith will be returning, I'll most likely watch it, but Studio will have to do better than having Mr. Smith in film to attract a lot of audience.

Thanks for the info. I love how BigM13 is our movie guy. Keep up the good work.

Independance Day is my one of my favourite movies, and Will Smith is one of my favourite actors. I would love to see a sequel. :)

If they had decided to do this last decade I would be all over it, but 10+ years after the original they finally think about doing a sequel? WTF?

Makes you wonder if we will ever see a sequel to "True Lies"

Meh I'm ok with sequel it will probably be in 3D. Sooo why do the old characters need to be in it? I guess since Will Smith was one of the only ones to pilot it but that is kind of dumb to need him again. Maybe they can get Jeff Goldblum's character to attack aliens with viruses from his Ipad this time.
