View Full Version : Apes a Go?

It looks like that damned, dirty Planet of the Apes reboot is about to become a reality.

We've been hearing about this project for a bit now, but it never seemed like something that would really get off the ground in its planned state -- a remake/reboot/whatever of the fourth film in the original series, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/143/14302830.html), the jolly-good (and dark) tale of Caesar -- the sentient offspring of the chimpanzees Cornelius and Zira from the first film -- who becomes the leader of an ape uprising against humanity in the far-off future of… 1991.

Now Production Weekly (http://twitter.com/prodweek/statuses/11726523241) has tweeted that Fox's new take on that story, dubbed quite simply Caesar, has opened production offices at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby, BC, and starts filming in mid-July.

Reports back in March indicated that (http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/107/1077104p1.html) British helmer Rupert Wyatt had been hired onto the project, though that has yet to be confirmed. The story will once again follow the titular ape, and reportedly the film kinda/sorta fits into the previously established continuity of the series.

Could be cool -- and at the very least it might erase our memories of Tim Burton's mess of a remake.

As long as Tim Burton stays far, far away from this film. His remakes are not that great.

I've never gotten into The Planet of the Apes. Whether it be the reboot they did about eight years ago, the original movies, or the original television show, I never saw anything. I do, however, really like the whole 'Statue of Liberty being buried in the sand' type thing. I've always liked stuff like that, it's just eerie.

I don't know how welcomed this is going to be among the die-hard fans. I assume not very welcomed, however, maybe this will be the first time I've ever seen a Planet of the Apes movie.

The originals were great, the remake a few years back is one of the worst films I have ever seen.

I actually really disliked the remake as well as the original. This one may be decent, I'll probably see it anyway.
