May 3, 2010 at around 10:30pm EST. My friends were at their house. The having been trying all day to play on the Halo: Reach Beta. As soon as they finally get the games going, the power goes out. Zach lit a candle to lit up his room and Kristian went out to go smoke. Zach left the room and went to go make himself something to drink and as soon as Kristian was about to light up a cigarette, he heard Zach screaming, "The house is on fire!!!". The candle he lit, set the blanket that was hanging over his window on fire. Everyone made it out of the house ok. Zach, Kristian and I went over to Zach's house today and I took some pictures of his room. http://www.flickr.com/photos/43494654@N05/4579654694/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/43494654@N05/4579654748/ While I was taking the pictures, I wanted to know what the disc in the console looked like, so me and Zach decided to pry it open with a knife. We finally got it open and amazed at what we saw. The ODST Campaign disc survived in the flaming 360!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/43494654@N05/4579654828/ The Halo 3 Multiplayer disc that sat on top of the 360 as you can see didn't make it... R.I.P lol The Campaign disc didn't even have a mark or anything from the fire.

Thats unfortunate about their house, and ironic about the Halo 3: ODST disk.
I wish them all the best with reperations to their house.

everything is going good so far. Zach's mom is still a little shaken up, but they have American Red Cross and the insurance people helping them =)

As long as the Halo ODST disc was okay ;)

Seriously though howcome you were using a candle? Below a blanket!? It's good to hear you were all okay though, unfortunate for the MP disc though.

I forgot to mention that the power when out while they were playing the beta and that's how the candle got started

Yup, CD's and DVD's will survive a fire quite well. My uncle burnt down his kitchen when he was younger and after they put it out, my dad found a few of his CD's sitting there. The case was completely melted and destroyed, but they were able to play the CD's in a CD player perfectly fine.

Really bad to hear about the house, hope they get it back up soon. But yeahh, why would you light a candle below a blanket lol? Atleast move the blanket :/

Everything is going good so far. Zach's mom wants him to join the military because they also found his bongs in his room and the police are gonna fine him $2000. Kristian is getting the fine too because of the "Guilty by association" crap.

Oh wow $2000 are you serious, just for possession of some weed. Man if he lived in Britain, they would either just take it off him as its personal use or just given him a caution. That is some seriously funny shit with that ODST disk though, how the hell has it managed to stay in what looks to be mint condition when the xbox is literally completely melted with other disks like a melted black mess. Atleast he can still play Halo: Reach I guess.

They didn't find any weed on him or in his room. They're just charging him for the 4 bongs he had. That's it.

Seriously?
Hope they can't do that shit over here.

Thanks for inserting that little extra paranoia into my life, :biglaugh
I don't hide any of my "peripherals" I guess you could say, just leave them lying around and no one bothers me about them, as soon as I wake up I'll consider hiding them then xD

When I got there to pick them up. I saw the cops pull up and as soon as the cop got out of the car, he said "I smell weed." It was like the cop didn't even care about what happened to the house ya know

He is a cop... It's not his job to care about what happened to the house.

This was before they even found the bongs or anything and they haven't smoked in a few days anyways. I think the cop was just being a dick lol

Could have been a few things, the weed got onto some of the stuff in the room, and was lingering and burned when well the fire happened. Or there was just a lingering smell that the fire helped set off. Or he could have thought the fire was caused by y'all smoking weed.

You can set a house on fire and the cd survives but if I step on the edge of a jewel case my cds are in the entire cd cracks in five different places. :(

That's pretty epic you would think the disc would have atleast a scratch but I guess Master Chief was watching over ODST.

I can't help but feel sad for them, even though I think who ever decided to lit a candle and put it under a blanket is an idiot. Didn't you guys have some kind of fire extinguisher? If not, you sure have noes!
