today i switched my xbox on and it sounded fine while it was on the dashboard. Then as soon as i put a disc in there and it started loading it sounded like a vaccuum cleaner and it vibrated the whole intire thing it sits on. then when i switched it off it sounded like a dieing cow

For me, when i put some discs in it sounds like that.
- Has it always sounded like that when you put that disc in?
- Did you immediately switch the xbox off after insterting the disc? The "dieing cow" sound may have been caused by the disc slowly stopping spinning.

Yeh I've had this as well, sometimes my xbox starts making this weird noise after I put a disc in it, then I reboot my xbox and the noise is gone :]

Do you have one of the older models?
Because my old one made noises like that, but my elite doesn't.

Watch out for when it sratches your discs, or doesn't read them at all.

If this happens, its on its way out and you need to contact xbox to get it repaired.

I had to spend close to 50 replacing and repairing the games my old xbox destroyed! >:@

maybe theres a cow living in your xbox

as long as it plays games,
you should be fine.

downloading the games onto your hard drive helps.

you'll get a quieter humming sound instead.

Mine used to do this, only with specific discs, though (RB2 I think was the main one). I feared the worst; I took this to be the early warning signs of a foreboding RRoD, but after a few weeks, the noise went away and all was right in my gaming world.

Do you leave it on a lot when you're not actually using it? It's just like a computer...leaving it on all the time isn't good for the internal components.

If you move your xbox while a disk is moving inside it will make those noises and total your disc
