3D!!! NOOOOO!

US, May 7, 2010 - Columbia Pictures announced today that Men in Black III (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/143/14336656.html) will be released in 3D on May 25, 2012. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are returning to produce and Barry Sonnenfeld (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/910/910741.html), who directed the first two installments of the blockbuster franchise, will direct the film from a screenplay written by Etan Cohen, based on the comic book by Lowell Cunningham. Steven Spielberg is set to executive produce.

Deals are set for Will Smith (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911041.html), Sonnenfeld and the producing team to return to the blockbuster franchise with the intent to begin production by this fall and the studio is in advanced negotiations with Tommy Lee Jones (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912042.html) to reprise his role as Agent Kay. Josh Brolin (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/915/915966.html) is also in talks to star as a young Agent Kay.

Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution said, "Sony's summer of 2012 will get off to a red hot start with an incredible new 3D adventure for the Men in Black. We couldn't be more excited that the original filmmaking team responsible for the first two worldwide hits is reuniting for this third installment. We love where the story is taking Agents Jay and Kay and know this new chapter will deliver a fresh fun twist for fans of the franchise while also introducing the Men in Black to a whole new generation of moviegoers."

The first two Men in Black films, which were released in 1997 and 2002, went on to become two of the most successful films in Columbia Pictures history, taking in more than $1 billion combined worldwide. The first film in the franchise won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and was nominated for two other Oscars.

I've never seen a film in 3D, and I never will. I don't understand why it's such a big thing, I don't want to wear glasses when I watch a film. Looks like we're never going to stop it unless people quit paying to see films in 3D.

2012? Wow, that's surprisingly far off for this. I guess it's not very high the the priority list; I can't say I've been on the edge of my seat waiting for it to come out. Will it at least be casting Smith and Jones again? I don't think MIB would truly be MIB without them. Also can't say much about the prospect of it in 3D; I really don't understand what all the hype is over 3D movies right now...I mean, I get that it's the next thing after HD, but it just doesn't blow my mind like it seems to do with everyone else. Jeez, people are never just happy with what they have...I don't even have HD and I make due just fine.

Blah 3D strikes again :( I really dont see the hype of all this 3D bollocks. It only works with some films and MIB isnt one of them imo.

3D films are awesome but they need to tone them down there bringing to much out in 3d, and the galsses give me a headache after a while :(

Why wouldn't it be in 3D?

Now they have an excuse to combine 3D with the 3 for the number after the film. :p

OT: I've only seen one movie in 3D, which was Avatar. I must say I quite enjoyed it and thought the 3D was done well, but I haven't seen it without the 3D so I cant compare. But, I'm not really hyped over 3D and I really hated paying nearly double the price for a 3D movie.

I watched Muppets in 3D at Disneyland or somewhere when I was a kid. Only 3D movie or show I have ever seen. As long as the movie doesnt come out exclusively to only 3D, I dont mind them since I will never buy a ticket

I'm guessing Rip Torn won't be making an appearance.

Had Avatar not made so much damned money, this 3D thing might not be as popular. But, seeing as 3D is the thing to do now, it's bound to happen. I mean, hell, Step Up 3D? Piranha 3D. Jackass 3D.......

Gettin' tired of all this 3D, to be honest. Animated movies should be the only movies in 3D.

I hate 3D....for me it only takes away from the experience cause it ends up being extremely cheesy

...MiBIII in general sounds like a bad idea in the first place..the second one pretty much sucked compared to the first

Well, it's not like you need to see it in 3D.
Granted, the film is going to be made to be seen in 3D, but I've seen films that were meant to be in 3D that still turned out well.

The one I remember the most was My Bloody Valentine, which did a lot of gimmicks to incorporate the fact it's 3D.
I didn't see it in 3D, and I still enjoyed it.

Which one is world? I've been to both Florida & California parks but I've been to Florida's a lot more due to the fact I live in Georgia. The 4D I always see is some bug one where they stab your ass halfway through the movie and spray stink gas in your face. It's a lot more fun than it sounds. :p

I remember when 3D was just for cheesy IMAX documentaries.
