The only time I really enjoyed his work was when he was working with Tenacious D for their Pick of Destiny film.

Nonetheless, R.I.P.

Nope, only just now found out he was diagnosed with cancer. No joking to be had, I just don't follow artist's personal lives too closely.

I definitely don't follow Dio's like whatsoever. I dislike Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven and Hell a lot! However, we all know the guys as old as a dinosaur. That's why I thought it was funny you said 'Didn't see that coming.'

It's a shame to see another one of my favorite musicians die, I was really looking forward to seeing Heaven And Hell at bloodstock. :(

Ahhh.... I also didn't see George Carlin's end coming, and he was far worse. Guess I just don't think about death until it's occurred. I digress before I jack the thread.

R.I.P. Dio.

I heard about this late last night, but it was all rumors because I couldn't find a reliable source. But then a lot of Metal Bands were posting it on their twitters/facebooks. Just finally got onto Dio's website a bit ago since it was down all night last night. Sucks to see him go.

Two of my most favourite singers gone within a couple of months of each other, all very sad news. The other being Peter Steele. R.I.P.

I met this man during the Metal Masters tour, and when I saw him backstage, I told him about my plans to move to Norway (Knowing he's a Norway nut, like myself), and he actually pulled me aside and we talked about Norway for about half an hour. Was one of the best moments in my life. You think he's short in photos, you should see him in person! With his size, and poofy hair, I called him the official Troll of Metal and he got a good laugh out of it. I'll always treasure the high five I got from him, even moreso knowing he's gone now.
Shame to, I made him a promise, and was hoping he'd be alive when I accomplish it.

Dang, one of my favorite singers. Last I had heard, I thought he was getting better. But, cancer is an ugly beast. RIP Dio.

I understand what you mean, but it's actually kind of funny, but not really at the same time. The story is, I was going to see him when he was coming to Chicago. I've grown up on George Carlin and own his entire collection on DVD/CD. He passed away like weeks before the Chicago show. Pretty sad. I was telling my dad "We need to see him before he dies!" and we never got to! :(

What a shame. Why not Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga instead?

Because their combined years on this planet are over 25 less than Dio's...

Don't wish death upon anyone, however much they're ruining the music industry.

RIP Dio. Cracking up Heaven and Hell's album right now in memory :(

Anyways, we lost another music legend and the inventor of the metal horns. RIP

Agree 100%. Although I never really knew any of his stuff outside of this movie, besides the implication in the movie that he's some rockstar.

People are always shocked when someone famous dies, yet there's no "RIP" threads for the countless number of people who die everyday of hunger, AIDS, and who knows what else. And the worst part about any of that is, everyone knows it's the truth, but no one seems to care.

Far be it from me to pass judgment on the people of the internets though... ;)

I for one will be listening to my 'Holy Diver' cd to honor him.

This passing definitely hurts, almost as much as when Chuck Schuldiner died. Dio was a vocalist I first started listening to when i was a child. He had one of the best voices in metal. Anyone who thinks it's just another normal death obviously can't grasp how influencial he was in the metal community. Unfortunately i'd imagine these same people will be crying their eyes out when a sell-out like Ozzy goes (not that i'm wishing that on him mind you).

Oh well, another great musician taken from us :(

Plus people like them always seem to walk the line of death/tragedy but never pass it. See Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, et.al.

OT - It's sad to see anyone die, especially from cancer. But to see someone who has affected so many in so many different ways and was a seemingly genuine human as noted in the above accolade, it is even more sad.

I take solice knowing that he is slaying dragons and shunning daemons in a better place now.

I wasn't too familiar with his work. I was, however, aware of big a name in music he was. It's always a shame when a big name has to go, whether you are fond of them or not.

He's old enough for a bus pass, therefore, he's ancient.

This is definitely grave news. I am a metal head, and I greatly respect Dio for doing his part in establishing heavy metal as what it is today. He influenced many musicians, and none could match his powerful and unique voice. He will be missed, and I will pick up the "Very Beast of Dio" compilation album in memory and in his honor.

R.I.P.

Rock in Peace, Dio. :rock

He died on my 18th Birthday :(

I have every Black Sabbath album up til "Never Say Die". I also have Rainbow's greatest hits, Dio's "Holy Diver" album, "The Mob Rules" & "Heaven & Hell".

I also saw Dio with Black Sabbath when they toured with Megadeth and Down...

He will be greatly missed!
