There are little piles/puddles/whatever of darkness you can burn with your flashlight. Does it serve a purpose?

As far as I know, they are only there to hurt you if you don't see them and destroy them. There were only a couple of places, that I noticed anyway, where other enemies were nearby. Basically, they are just an annoyance.

I think theyre there so you have to stand and burn them away with the flashlight, So that if your trying to run through the whole level you'll get your ass kicked :p

It reminds me of the black sludge stuff from Alone in the Dark. Actually... a lot of things about this game reminds me of Alone in the Dark. *cough* episodes *cough*

The major difference being Alone in the Dark sucked and this doesn't.

I acutally liked Alone in the Dark a bit better, but maybe thats because most of the faults people had with the controls and camera angles didn't give me too much of a problem. I liked both games though.

I can understand the puddles on the ground impeding your progress. But some are on walls, where you can't run over them and won't hurt you. Those just seem absolutely pointless.

In fact this has a lot in common with Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, a very unsuccessful 4th edition in the series on PS2 in which you could only damage some enemies by shining your torch on them...

The "puddles of darkness" are puddles of water from the lake. It's not pointless. It's to show you that certain objects in the game were erupted and placed there directly from the lake. They aren't there to harm you as much as they are there to push the story. He says that IN GAME.

Wow. You took my comment a little too seriously. I missed his comment about that. Makes sense.

Too seriously? Ha dude I was just trying to contribute to the thread, not trying to sound pushy!

I know that the sail boat in the trailer park was thrown from the lake too, but the darkness was probably destroyed by the light of day.

They seemed to just be there to harm you if you ignored them and accidentally stepped on them in a fights. I felt obligated to kill them all, and I don't know why.

They prey against my OCD, must BURN THEM ALL.

Otherwise, most people I'm sure will just ignore them to save time... Maybe in nightmare they will be more of a nuisance?

They are no more annoying in nightmare.

I think the ones on the vertical surfaces can harm you if you get too close to them but I'm not 100% sure as I usually burn them away from a distance.
