View Full Version : What The @#$% Happened To The MGS Movie?

David Hayter (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/913/913556.html), the voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/884/884127.html) game series and the writer of the X-Men (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/033/033720.html) script and the co-writer of X2 (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/034/034200.html), The Scorpion King (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/034/034131.html) and Watchmen (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/034/034260.html), talked to MTV (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/06/01/metal-gear-solid-movie-update-david-hayter) recently about the status of the Metal Gear Solid movie that he'd written the screenplay for.

"They've been trying to work out a deal between [creator Hideo Kojima] and [Sony]," he said. "A couple of years ago, a producer friend of mine asked me if I would be interested in doing the adaptation. And I said 'Of course. I know it pretty well.' I think I can say without contradiction that I know it better than any screenwriter on the planet. I've said every word that Snake has said. So I felt well-qualified."

Hayter claimed that he wasn't exactly sure what stalled after he submitted the script. He's only heard things second-hand, but nothing definite. "I don't believe they were ever able to successfully close a deal between Mr. Kojima and Sony," Hayter said. "This is all just stuff I've heard."

Hayter is staying tight-lipped about the exact elements of his script just in case there comes a time when the Metal Gear Solid movie project gets revived. "I did come up with a pitch for the movie which I thought was pretty cool and I would still love to do," Hayter said. "But there are far larger issues in terms of who's going to get the rights to do it and what sort of involvement Mr. Kojima is going to have. All that needs to be worked out before I would ever come up. I really want to spring some things on people," he continued. "Having been intimately involved with Metal Gear, I would like to give people a story that will grab the fans. The fans will know the context that we're talking about once they see the trailers. They'll say 'Oh my god, they're going there.' But they won't quite know how the story is going to unfold or what some of the big surprises are going to be. And that's really the only way to keep a movie [adaptation] interesting."

Never really enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid games very much...I would share the same amount of interest in a movie adaptation. Yeesh.

If this means I get to see David Hayter snapping necks and cashing cheques. I'm all for it.

It's a fine line though, it could be disastrous.

They were supposed to do a Splinter Cell movie a couple of years ago, but it never happened. Maybe 6 or 7 years ago a Metal Gear film would have been great, but I don't think they could do one now.

A live action movie would not do the series justice anyway. If anything, a CGI or an anime would be ok at best.

The whole Metal Gear franchise is one big movie anyway, so I wouldn't worry. :p

So the movie will based on the first Metal Gear Solid or like a rundown of all the movies? If you think about this could easily become a franchise if they break it down into 4 parts of all the games...Hell Metal Gear Solid 4 is pretty much already a movie.

If Hayter and Kojima are working together people will have nothing to worry about. Kojima will let nothing crappy come of his baby. MGS will be the best game adaption ever if these two get to do what they want. Period.

Also David Hayter must play Snake or no go. If there is no real Snake voice, then just no.
