Rumors have been spreading around today that his could be the trailer for the "reboot" Warner Bros. has been looking for. Or is it a teaser trailer for a new Mortal Kombat game? Ed Boon did state, "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK." Your guess is as good as mine though. With the star power in this trailer I highly doubt it's a fan-made trailer.

I hope it's real. The original holds a special place in my heart. I mean it had the fricken Highlander as Raiden.

Wow that shit looks OD. I knew immediately after I saw Michael Jai White that this shit was for real. Hope they make a reboot movie and a game after seeing this.

That's some amazing make-up art. Still probably will have no interest in the final product, but some amazing make-up art.

That was so incredible! My day just got 1000 times better, so amazing! Except for the fact that Johnny Cage was killed, I would really like to see him in the movies, he has always been my favorite and I walked out of the theater during the second movie after 5 minutes when they killed him there too! How many fucking times can the great Cage die? I know he gets resurrected but come on, let him be!

As others have said, the original and even Annihilation will hold a definite place in my heart. However, there is nothing bad about what I've seen in that clip. Everything was absolutely awesome. I loved the portrayal of Reptile, however, Baraka could have been a lot cooler. Baraka was one of my favorite Mortal Kombat characters, and this didn't look too great.

Either way, if this is any indication as to the direction in which the film is going, this is going to be an awesome film. Love the gritty realism.

Now, we just need an M-Rated game. I need to get the taste out of my mouth from MK VS DC.

If it's for a movie.... i'm excited... that look awesome!
I'm still kind of depressed about Johnny Cage, but i was like HOLY SHIT when I saw scorpion. I think it's a trailer for a game though.... but hell, you never know.... the reboot for the movie is supposed to be out in a year or 2... could be a special sneak peak. I don't see how reptile can fight though..... i wonder if he'll be able to spit acid out.
Also... who's the stars.... i don't know, lol.

Trailer was impressive enough, but only time will tell if the film actually is half as good as the trailer....

Personally I didn't like any of the Mortal Kombat movies, but this new one could actually work. Fingers crossed for it !

Agreed, he doesn't look as scary as he did before... actually he looked scarier in the second movie.
Plus... he actually just looked like a weird voodoo guy.

Well I mean, plus before he was bald and just plain looked like a monster. In this trailer he's a dude with dreadlocks and facial piercings. He looks like he should be wearing a poncho and flip-flops and sitting in a coffee shop.

COME HERE, god I wish I had the power to do that. This looks more like a mini series. I was sad to see Cage get owned before the movie/series started, but at least he got one last puff.haa

Jax looks legit, I want him to beat some ass. Ohh btw wasen't reptile orginally a ninja like Sub and Scorp?

If my source is correct the actor playing Scorpion in the trailer is the same fella who is playing Kazuya Mishima in the upcoming Tekken film adaptation, Ian Anthony Dale (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1406333/).

Most of us all know Michael Jai White (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0925227/) from films such as Spawn, Universal Solider & Universal Solider: The Return, Black Dynamite, The Dark Knight, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and Blood and Bone, who is portraying Jax in the trailer. Michael Jai White is an accomplished martial artist who started at the age of seven and holds seven legitimate black belts in Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do, Kobudo, Goju Ryu, Tang Soo Do, Wushu and Kyokushin, with a specific focus in Kyokushin. Below is a montage from Undisputed II: Last Man Standing with Jai White fighting martial artist Scott Adkins who holds black belts in Wushu, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Judo and Jujutsu respectably.

Jeri Ryan (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005394/) is best known as ex-Borg Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager, is portraying Sonya Blade.

Baraka is portrayed by the very talented Brazilian fighter, Lateef Crowder (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1956628/) who will be playing Eddy Gordo in the upcoming Tekken film.

Johnny Cage is portrayed by 5-time martial arts world champion, Matt Mullins (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1280538/), who is best known for playing Len in Kamen Rider Dragon Knight.

According to Latino Review (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/mortal-kombat-fans-this-is-the-hard-r-mk-movie-you-ve-been-waiting-for-10164) this trailer is being as quoted "the first look at the Mortal Kombat test video shot for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie." It seems the film even has an early title, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. Not sure what the "rebirth" part has to do with the movie, but it does make sense from a film point-of-view. I still can't find any info on who is playing Reptile, Sub-Zero, or Shang Tsung.

The short also is said to be directed by Kevin Tancharoen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1160495/) with the fights choreographed by Larnell Stovall.

I always thought that Baraka was from a different realm? But the trailer looks epic and I can't wait for a finished product, although I do hope that what we saw was from at least the middle of the script because a lot of it didn't make sense to me haha.

This may not even be from the actual film. From what I understand this is a "what could be" trailer that is trying to show Warner Bros. and others would the film could be like if following this style.

He deserves it; he's a tool.

Anywho, this looks pretty badass. Sure, a few details are a little off, but this is a major improvement over Annihilation (sidenote: I loved the first movie). As long as Scorpion and Sub-Zero have an epic duel and the grittiness is maintained throughout, I should be pretty happy with the film.

If this short trailer is any indication-- and given that it's only about eight minutes long, I could be totally wrong-- I get the feeling that with this particular film they're trying to make the MK universe seem more "real." Baraka portrayed as psychotic former surgeon as opposed to a member of that monsterous horde he came from, Reptile being a deformed-since-birth killer as opposed to being literally reptilian, etc.

I think they're trying to go with a more.... i guess realistic approach. I mean, no other world.... but i don't know, it's my guesstimation.

I hope they use this as the theme song. Best metal cover of a game song.

The live-action Mortal Kombat trailer (above) was the director's pitch to Warner Bros. on how he would like to reboot the franchise -- but how did he actually make it? A Collider interview with director Kevin Tancharoen sheds some light on the motivations, methods, and how at least one person involved in the short is already officially signed on for the next feature film.

You might not know Tancharoen's name, and he seems like the last person to direct a dark Mortal Kombat film. His previous credits include dancing in You Got Served, directing music specials for Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls, and the feature film Fame in 2009. "It got to a point where we just kept talking about it," he said, "and I just had to do it. It took over a two-month span of time. I shot this whole thing in two days on two Red cameras that were donated to me with a group of friends who all believed in the cause." He says all the shooting took place in April, but the post and editing alone took two months, and effects specialists donated their time.

He calls this short a "prelude" to his vision of a movie version, in which he wants to mix the real world with mysticism. "And of course, when you're working by yourself, you have a limited resource of budget. I made this thing for $7,500. I couldn't go balls-to-the-wall on visual effects. I had to utilize what I could and make the best of it." He says no one at Warner Bros. knew he was working on the pet project, but he mapped out a storyboard with his friend Oren Uziel. Uziel is already signed on as the screenwriter for the next Mortal Kombat film, due in 2013.

Tancharoen definitely has a vision to make a more adult Mortal Kombat movie, feeling the older ones were too toned down to suit studio tastes. He wants to bring back fatalities, in all their gory glory, in a film adaptation. "Not over the top, where it feels like we're just doing it for shock value," he says. "But I think Sub-Zero has a great fatality. I think Scorpion has a great fatality, and I think Kano has a great fatality. I would incorporate them in the tournament aspect in a very organic way."

This is all alongside the announcement of a gritty new Mortal Kombat game coming from Warner Bros. in 2011. The timing makes the movie buzz either fortuitous, or suspicious. Either way, it looks like the company is eager to reboot the franchise in multiple incarnations. If Tancharoen can get the fans on his side with this short film, WB might pick him up as the official director, so he can really show off his vision for the Mortal Kombat universe.

I like his version better.... i like the whole real world he added to the movie.
If they play their cards right, they can have a spectacular movie...... i wonder how they'll incorporate everyone else though?
I don't know... i guess it's like when they mixed Norse Mythology with the Max Payne movie.

Definitely, my point was that if they are to put a fighter with telekinetic powers then Ermac should be their first option and not Kenshi since Ermac was the one who taught him the art of telekinesis. ;)
