Not looking forward to that one, I was hoping to rent this and just play through once on Nightmare difficulty.

Doesn't look like thats gonna be possible thanks to this achievement :(

You can't play the game once for 100%, Nightmare have to be unlocked by playing Hard first.
I just think it's nice with exciting and intriguing achievements like these. I like that they have put some time and effort into making 'em!

If you're talking about An Idyllic Small Town, then it isn't the whole game. It's only part of a single episode in the game.

there are no achievements for completeing the game without dieing just certain parts. and night mare is unlocked from the beginning lol.

the one that seems that it will take the longest will be burn 1000 birds if u ask me lol.

graphics are really good

i hear the game is short but oh well i think worth a rent but not worth the 80 for collectors edition for sure. im gonna cancel and put the 10 towards red dead.

Nightmare isn't unlocked from the beginning. You have to clear Normal or Hard first. Collectibles carry over though, which is nice (so you only need to find a few extra pages on nightmare). Collectibles themselves are fairly ok to find. Think I finished missing a handful of thermoses, signs and manuscript pages. Finding the last couple of thermoses will probably take the longest (ones you've previously found won't show up, so I'll look for the rest on nightmare mode).

Burning 1000 birds is easily done over the course of the game. You'd have to actively try not to do it (and even then, I don't know if you can avoid it).

Could some1 that has the chievos tell me how to get the Meet the Deadline and Gunless Wonder achievment.

They're both fairly easy to get. Simply load up the part of the episode you need (I think "Meet the Deadline" is the last part of Episode 3, and "Gunless Wonder" is the first part of Episode 6).

For "Meet the Deadline", just rush through the level on normal. Try to avoid as many fights as you can (run towards light, etc.). Don't bother searching for collectibles. When you character says "I could see lights on the lake. It had to be a boat" or something to that effect, the achievement should pop.

For "Gunless Wonder", again try to avoid fights. You're not allowed shoot, but you can use flares and flashbangs. These you'll want to save until later in the level though. Try to run towards light, and stay in vehicles as much as possible. If you're surrounded, pop a flare. Later when you get attacked by those fast phasing taken, use flashbangs. Further in to the level you'll have to move blocks by tapping A (while being attacked by taken, since you can't kill them easily without weapons). Simply drop a flare, push the block a bit, and drop another flare when the first goes out. This will hold them back.

Both achievements are fairly easy to get, and should only take you a short time. You're also able to die and restart from a checkpoint in both (running towards scripted twisters is a bad idea >.< ).

See what's on TV.

There will be a TV to turn on in the night time scene of the Caldron Lake Lodge level (episode 4), just before you escape.

From the guide.

I've been watching for this game since like 2005, so I don't have a problem going through it at least twice. I'll probably slam through it on normal and then finish the collectables and achievements on Nightmare mode. Trying to keep my spoilers to a minimum.

I played on hard first, after that I played every episode again in different order to get the collectibles I needed for the achievements.
After that I played yet again on Nightmare.

This because I didn't want to have to run around looking for collectibles when the enemies hit pretty hard and are tough to kill

There exist achievement where you need to go from A to B in 30 minutes. How will pausing, loading last checkpoint and so worth effect on getting this achievement? Last night it took near 1 hour to complete this episode part since I was discovering the world.

:edit: I got it now. It took me near 30 minutes. I started 14:57 and finished at 15:26. I run like an animal, so I guess this isn't the easiest achievement to get.

Got the game last Saturday and finished it last night, playing it through slowly on hard. I've been watching and anticipating this game since it was announced at E3 as a PS3 release title, which, of course never happened. I have to say, I am very impressed, and it was well worth the wait.

This was my first play through, and at first I was looking for collectibles, but as I got more and more into the story, I totally forgot about them, so I have hardly any of the collectible achievements. But like I said, first play through, on hard: 570G.

I will play it through next on Normal to get the collectibles, then once more on Nightmare to get the Nightmare manuscript.

Great game - well worth the price!

I'll play it on Nightmare(=1000g) if the game is not ridiculously hard. I had only little difficulties on Hard, died around 15 times in 6 episodes. We will see.

Same here I played on normal to get the collectibles, but I died a few times, by my own stupidity. Like walking off a cliff, or forgetting that A, and not X is the jump button.

hehe this is by far the greatest game ive played in a while, i just started out on episode six and im saving it for later gotta do something else for a while and collect my though`s (that just shows how awesome this game is)

okay so ive so far collected 465 G on hard on the first run and personally i think ive done great but those pages and coffe thermoses are a pain, :uzi:

missed a few on episode 2, 3 and 5 i think... well anyways i like the atmosphere in this town, just what i needed haha!

EDIT: okay played trough Episode 6, awesome storyline you gotta admit that, now i had 600 G when i finished the game... missed the "Children of elder god" achivement but ill take it on normal when ill collect the rest of the coffey thermoses and manuscipts that i missed on hard.

Great game! First playthrough on Hard was not hard except for in a couple main spots, but once you figure out how to do them it's all fairly easy - as far as just getting through the game.
As far as the achievements go they're great in my opinion. I ended up with 670 points after one playthrough, I'm no longer as patient as I used to be in using a guide to find all the collectibles in a game - so I may or may not look for them all, but am I going to replay on Nightmare mode you might ask? HELLZ YEAH!!!!!
All-in-All: Great game to play! Immerse yourself in the story and you will not be dissappinted!

I'm missing just two thermos(98/100) now. I've got all of them from episodes 1, 5 and 6. I've discovered the radio station location, which was the place for one thermos. Is there any other thermos like that one, which is most likely to be missed during first play?

I'm asking this only because I'm missing those two. Thanks for any help!

:edit: I watched video guides and got lucky with the remaining two. One was hiding behind the steam engine train, that's a easy miss. So I got it now and just one history collectible remaining. It should be a lot easier.

Personally, this game has some of the best achievements I've seen in an Xbox game. Their difficulties and approaches are well-balanced, such as Story, Kill X Enemies with Y, Collectibles, and Gameplay (Survive, Speed, etc). Most games I play tend to focus on one type, so this was a very nice change of pace.

I am currently playing the game on Nightmare to get my Alan, Wake Up achievement, but I ran into a problem. Now this makes the miscellaneous AND missable achievements category because you can simply run past it, rather than fighting it. Whatever you do, stand up like the man that Alan is and take that beast down. Whether you destroy it with a few flares/flaregun or general hard-assery with the boosted torch is up to you. Just don't opt for the easy way out... his name is Alan for a reason...

That isn't missable at all. Think of it as a boss fight. I figured it out when I pointed my flashlight to those poltergeist things and worked awesomely and that's why I started doing so for the Taken and the boss fights. So have it as a "Story Related"... :)

Of course it's missable, you're not FORCED to fight it whatsoever. As it says in the guide, you can run straight past it if you so wish.

If any1 has problems unlocking the achievement for "An Idyllic Small Town" then you can just load and start playing from "The Night It All Began" in 'Episode 4: The Truth' and continue playing without dying/restarting until you successfully defend the helicopter in "Night Life in Bright Falls" in 'Episode 5: The Clicker'.

If you'd scanned through the achievement guide then you'd have seen that there are achievements for Hard and Nightmare completion and that you have to unlock Nightmare by beating the game once. So, yes, difficulty does matter.

Probably, unless you have an idea on which episode that missing thermos may be. If not, just play trough it again and make sure to follow the guide step by step.

I'm missing like 20 but I'm just starting the Nightmare difficulty run, hope I find them all :p

One question. I've got 99/100 Coffee thermoses and I can't find the last one... I had searched all episodes with guide and nothing... Do I have to start entire game from beginning?

Sorry for my english.

Dude same thing happend to me! I couldn't find my last one for months! Because as you know it doesn't tell you what chapter your missing them on. But my last one was on the level where you go to Lovers Peak and it was near a cliff to the right of the map just after you leave barry in the cabin. My mate missed the same one so thats why im sharing this story.

Tornado Wrangler - 20G
Defeat the tornado.

Extremely easy. I wonder if it's the same on Nightmare mode or if something changes...

Gunless Wonder can be annoying, but basically you can just bypass all enemies to the checkpoint in order to get it. Easy 30G.

I believe you have to play 2 juke boxes. The first one is in the diner when you are getting the key to the cabin from the darkness. While walking by a guy will tell you to hit the juke box but that does not count. Now after you get the key from her go up and hit the juke box again. The next juke box is in episode 5....

Hi all

Just got this game and was looking through the achievements. I am going to play on normal and get all the collectibles then do it on nightmare. I was just wondering for the chievos where you have to kill x amount using a specific weapon does this reset or carry over through each difficulty play through? i.e. will i have to reload chapters on normal and kill things using a specific weapon or can i continue on nightmare and hope to get the achievement before i do the clear up to get all achievements?

Thanks for the help.

They will carry over. You'll probably get them all on your first playthrough without even trying anyways; I did, and I was a bit stupid about it.

The guides say Flare Gun ammo is rare, and you should only use it if you're going to kill four Taken. But I would have gotten that much faster if I just used it on three, or hell, two, because I'd finish the mission without ever touching them. The only thing you might want to avoid doing is using your pistol though. Use it when you have too, otherwise just go with the big guns.

the "don't shoot even once" cheevo in the Ep6 is really a pain in the ass..

I finished my hard+collectibles run yesterday, and I never been more sure that I did it properly.. I did not even touch RT, only when driving a car and still didn't get the achievement, that's so lame :(

gonna have to do it again eventually, but Nightmare with last 15 manuscripts is what I'm thrilled to do right now ;)

OK it's done on my nightmare run ;) so I got 1000G awwwww yeah ! ;)
