View Full Version : Fourth Pirates Film Setting Sail

06-22-2010, 07:19 AM
Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films are hard at work on location with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/859/859550.html). Filming in Hawaii, the U.K., and Los Angeles, the beloved franchise is back with a fourth installment, and this time, it's in Disney Digital 3D.

The adventure-comedy, penned by Pirates vets Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, is set to be another action and humor packed tale of the exploits of Jack Sparrow. Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912750.html) again) is back for a new set of adventures and this time the plot centers around his exploits with a woman from his past, played by Academy-Award winning vixen Penelope Cruz.

As this mysterious woman re-enters Sparrow's life, he is torn between what could be passion or suspicion of this could-be con artist in search of the Fountain of Youth. She tempts him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the feared Blackbeard (played by Ian McShane (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/916/916126.html)), and here, Sparrow must battle both feminine and pirate guile.

Though Pirates vets Keira Knightley (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911621.html) and Orlando Bloom (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/910/910581.html) will not be reappearing in the fourth film, Geoffrey Rush will be back as Barbarossa and Kevin R. McNally will return as Joshamee Gibbs. Several newcomers will be joining the cast such as Astrid Berges-Frisbey, who will be playing a mermaid, and Sam Claflin, who will be taking on the role of a rugged missionary.

On the production side, award-winning director Rob Marshall (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/061/061370.html) (Chicago, Nine, Memoirs of a Geisha) has stacked up the behind the scenes team with special effects and production design talent galore.

The fourth Pirates film is set to kick off the summer movie season (in 3D) on May 20, 2011.

Humm... Not sure what to think of this. The first film was brilliant, the other two, not so. I still enjoyed them, but, they went too far with some of it and it wasn't as well put together as the first. This could destory the Pirates' series once and for all. At least it won't have Orlando Bloom's boring Will Turner character! BONUS!

Keira Knightley not coming back :(

I know, dude, I know. :(
Though, the addition of Penelope Cruz makes up for it. She's getting up into cougar territory, but she's still smokin'.

Anywho, I'd say I enjoyed all 3 movies.

This, though, seems like a strange spin-off. It could be good, but it doesn't sound that exciting thus far.

I hope it'll live up to the quality of the first film. I loved that one so much, went to see it three times in the cinema.

Ugh, this series was officially ruined after the first one. Well, to be more specific, it was ruined once Johnny Depp spent the last half of the second film riding around on a big wooden wheel. I don't think I've even seen all of the third one; I got about 10-15 minutes in and stopped watching for fear of wasting my life. A fourth is not necessary.

Glad to hear filming started! I absolutely loved the first three films. <3 Hopefully we get some pics soon. Kinda sucks it will be in 3D ( I don't care for it ). At least Barbossa is back!

NO!!!!!!!! Keira Knightley wont be back?!?! The only reason I watched the series was to see those dresses where her tits are popping out :p.

Oh well at least Johnny Depp is back. He is hilarious as Jack Sparrow.

Looks good to me. I enjoyed all 3 of the Pirates flick so far. The Will and Elizabeth story has about finished anyway so I have no problem with them moving on from them. Besides, Penelopy Cruz will fill out a bustier a little better than Keira did if you know what I mean. Penelopy Cruz in a pirate outfit will be a pretty hot combo.

If they do another one (or even in this one) and had just a far off sighting of the Dutchman would be kind of cool as well. They don't need to have Will Tanner on screen but alude to him on the Dutchman creating an awkward moment for Sparrow could play out funny.

Yawn. After the unbelievably boring third film why would they consider a fourth? Wont be watching it like I wont be watchin most Hollywood shit that comes out these days.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean was great, but the sequels were mediocre at best. They got worse virtually every minute as the movie continued to drag on and really failed to engage or tell a story like the original did. I don't have much hopes for this but I'll probably see it with friends anyway.

I can't believe there are people upset that Kiera Knightly won't be in it. She has the body of a 10 year old boy, and a voice twice as high.

I was hoping they would let this one die already. Sadly, that is not the case

Seems like a strange time gap between the third. Don't they usually try to cash in on a series of movies really quickly?
