Rumor has it that a two-time Oscar winner may terrorize the world's greatest detective in Sherlock Holmes 2 (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/045/045815.html).

Superhero Hype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/102884-who-might-play-professor-moriarty-in-sherlock-holmes-2) claims that director Guy Ritchie (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/914/914945.html) is "hoping" to cast Daniel Day-Lewis (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/910/910789.html) as Holmes' brilliant archenemy, Professor James Moriarty. Ritchie's Snatch star Brad Pitt (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/913/913497.html) had previously been rumored for the villain role, but SHH says that's not the case. They also state that wasn't Pitt voicing the character in the first Sherlock Holmes (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/142/14258109.html) movie as was widely believed.

The site calls it all "an unconfirmed rumor," but then adds that other actors up for the role of Moriarty include Oscars winners Sean Penn (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911671.html) and Javier Bardem (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/914/914723.html), as well as Batman and Harry Potter vet Gary Oldman (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911331.html) (who seems a more likely bet as those two franchises are, like Sherlock, at Warner Bros.).

Meh, I'm not too enthused about Lewis...I'd like it better if the rumours about Brad Pitt were true instead. Regardless, I think Gary Oldman would make a great villain, especially after his role in The Book of Eli.

Considering how "Hollywood" the first movies was, I have no intentions of seeing a 2nd.

Tons of CGI, main focus of the movie was on action scenes, The usual.

That's a Guy Ritchie film for ya.

I would be a bit surprised if Daniel Day Lewis were to sign up for the film -- he doesn't do Franchise films.

This. There's no way this is going to happen. Not to say it wouldn't be a good fit, though.
