Rise of the Apes (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/143/14302830.html), Fox's simian prequel, has added two more names to its cast. John Lithgow (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912314.html) and Freida Pinto (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/143/14330108.html) are both joining the project, which already stars James Franco (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/916/916880.html).

According to Heat Vision (http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/06/lithgow-and-pinto-join-rise-of-the-apes.html), Lithgow will play Franco's Alzheimer's-stricken father, while Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) is the movie's female lead, a primatologist.

Lithgow, of course, has done sci-fi before, and not just in the silly sitcom sense of 3rd Rock from the Sun. Perhaps his most memorable genre role was in the 2001: A Space Odyssey sequel 2010, where he played Dr. Walter Curnow, the designer of the spaceship Discovery One.

Rupert Wyatt directs Apes, which will depict how Franco's scientist character's attempts to cure Alzheimer's results in an ape named Caesar taking an evolutionary leap forward. And we all know how that's going to turn out for everyone…

The film starts shooting this summer in British Columbia.

Nice! I can't wait for this movie...it has the potential to be fantastic. What a great cast!

I used to watch 3rd Rock from the Sun every day when I came home from school while it was still on TV...I loved that show. And James Franco is a no-brainer; I just love that guy <3

Well, it can't be any worse than the Tim Burton remake, and I do like James Franco and John Lithgow. His role as The Trinity Killer on Dexter was really damn good.
