View Full Version : Top Gun 2 Taking Flight?

It's been nearly a quarter of a century since Top Gun (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/945/945785.html) made aviator shades and homoerotic volleyball cool, but that isn't stopping Jerry Bruckheimer (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/912/912006.html) talking up plans for a sequel.

Speaking to MTV (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/06/28/tom-cruise-involvement-in-a-top-gun-sequel-still-possible-producer-jerry-bruckheimer-recently-approached-about-it/) while publicizing latest blockbuster The Sorcerer's Apprentice (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/143/14303918.html), the uber-producer explained that Top Gun 2 (http://uk.movies.ign.com/objects/079/079455.html) has been attempted before.

"We tried to develop [a sequel] and we couldn't do it - I was with my partner Don Simpson" he explained. "And then Tom [Cruise (http://uk.stars.ign.com/objects/911/911487.html)] took it over and he tried to develop something and it never quite happened.

"We were recently approached again to start talking about it but, you know, nothing yet" he continued. "We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."

If a sequel has failed before, maybe that should be a sign.

Goose is dead. How could there be a sequel? Plus Iceman, Maverick, and Merlin are all old now. FAIL

All the actors are old now... Don't really see how that would work. Unless they brought in new actors and wrote a story that completely shys away from the first one... ::shudders:: ... God No

I just don't see how they can make a movie like this. Iron Eagle has been straight to video for years now. People don't look at our air military forces the same way as they used to. Heck, people don't look at airplanes in general the way we used to...

I see nothing but failure here...
