Do you have your XBOX standing up?

or

Do you have you XBOX laying down?

Whichever you choose please share your reasons.

I have mine standing up. I would have it laying down (game disk safety), but I don't have any room.

Laying down. Simply out of practical reasons. It's too hard putting in a disc when it stands up :P

Both.

When my 360's in the living room I have it down simply because of storage space.

When I bring it to my room though, I leave it standing up as I leave it on my computer desk.

I have mine laying down. I heard if you stand it up it scratches the disc that's playing. That's what happened with my brother's box anyway.

07-02-2010, 08:42 PM
^360 only scratches the disc if you move it while a disc is loaded.

I have my 360 standing up as it takes up less room, but sometimes I'll have it lying down.

Laying down now because of space issues, no room to stand it up. But I want to have it standing up as my FF13 faceplate is designed to be standing up. Once I move I will fix that!

07-02-2010, 08:56 PM
Horizontal, only because I got the impression it causes less problems, don't know if that's true or not. It makes a little sense to me, as it has a big vent on what would be the bottom if it were vertical. I also have cats, and as they haven't gotten close to it yet, I'd hate to see one of them plow into it and knock it over, ruining a disc.

Same reason, and plus when i tried to put it laying down on the shelf above, it kept over-heating.

Laying down. First time I used my Xbox it was standing up, I didn't touch it, and it scratched my MW2 disc to hell.
Took it back to the store, they phoned M$, and M$ themselves told me that you aren't supposed to use the Xbox standing up O_O
Since then I use it laying down.

My 360's standing up at the moment. It makes less noise and gets better air circulation so it doesn't overheat.

I know if I stand it up, I will knock it and break my games. Simple. :p

Laying down for sure. If I had it standing up the second a disc starts spinning one of my cats will sprint in and judo kick it over and destroy the disc.

...I remember how often I'd play my N64 and they'd just walk in and step on the reset button and bail out of the room. :(

Your kitties sound like my huskies at heart. When my gaming sessions get too long or late into the night one of them, Kiska or Juneau, will saunter up to me to get petted & *whoops* one will step on the on/off switch to my Belkin Power strip.

It's impossible to get angry with such cute loving creatures. Yet it seems they "accidentally" do this on cue when they think I ain't paying enough attention to them. LOL

I've always had mine standing up. Bought my first xbox 360 at the end of 2006, never had a problem with disk scratching. Definitely a rumour. I prefer it standing up, as it looks better that way imo.

master_shake_350
07-02-2010, 11:53 PM
2 of my consoles are lying down the other one is standing up (unused). The reason I have them laying down is 1. So the cats don't knock them over, well the sleep on them but it does less damage then it does when they knock them over. 2. Because.

^this!

It's a catch-22 with me. If I stand it up, the cats will knock it down. If I lay it down, they walk all over it. I have it laying down in a TV stand now but the cats still find a way to slip through and walk on it. >_>

Laying down is the best way for both disc and vents reason, I rarely have my xbox standing up.

It seems like there are cons with both ways.

Standing up - Disk scratching

Laying down - Poor ventilation

jdd895
07-03-2010, 12:49 AM
Mine stands up only because my xbox is all funky so whenever I put a different disc in it wouldn't play it so I'd switch the position of it and so far I haven't had problems with it standing up.

I have mine standing up, no particular reason, that's just how I set it when I got it. Though looking at it I do think it looks better standing up, imho. I've never worried about disk issues and have never had a problem loading or unloading disks. Additionally standing it takes up less room on my shelf under my mounted flat screen allowing room for other things on the shelf (picture of my daughter, remote charging station, cable box, etc.).

Horizontal. I don't have the space for it to be vertical plus it's a lot stabler lying down; I have a feeling I would probably knock it over otherwise.

StolenPaper18

Vertical. It sits on top of a turntable cabinet, only sharing the counter surface with a vertical Wii and a horizontal HD-DVD 360 add-on. It's in no danger of falling over unless directly struck as the turntable's 200-some pounds, so it's pretty steady.

Laying down, for a couple reasons
1. the stand I have for the tv/games/360 doesn't have enough room to stand it up anyway
2. I'm really clumsy and I wouldn't want to knock it over
3. heard that it can scratch discs standing up

XxR3l0adedxX

^360 only scratches the disc if you move it while a disc is loaded.

First off Mine is standing up at all times. I for some reason beleive that it keeps it cooler because there is more area for it to relase heat.

and as for the scratches disc if you move it.. Yes this is true but I myself have never done this.. My girlfriends stupid brother on the other hand yanked on my dsl cord and it fell over and scratched up a brand new copy of fall out 3 a $50.00 game at that time! I was so pissed, but if you are carefull standing up is not different than laying down.

Standing up, mainly due to space issues, but rather because it looks better. I have had it standing for four years and have never scratched a disc, that 'standing up' rumour is a total lie, scratching only occurs if the user knocks it, though this 'knock' doesn't have to be violent hence why I understand when people have it lying down due to pets - I can feel their pain when they hear the dreaded "grind".

So I just rearranged everything after 3 years of my Xbox standing up and it is now laying on its side.

Since I had it on laying down, when the Xbox is just idle in the dashboard or the disk is not spinning I noticed that it is louder. It isn't a bad noise like a grinding or anything, it just seems like the fan is a little louder. Does that sound normal? I'm thinking since it is on its side, those vents are kinda blocked and that is why the fan sounds louder. Any thoughts you guys have would be great since I have never had it on its side and don't have anything to compare it to. Oh, and it hasn't gotten hot and it runs fine.

They RROD more often on the side because of fan problems. As long as you keep the area free and fans clean it shouldn't be a problem, though.

What do you mean fan problems? It has good clearance and is on nice laminated wood so it keeps pretty cool.

I got the RROD on my first console, the one that stood up all the time. This console is newer (I bought it in November of 09), isn't the RROD supposed to be fixed on the new ones?

Who knows, maybe MS says it is safer laying down b/c they go out faster and then you buy another faster.

One of our Xbox's is lying down and the other is standing up due to our setups.
I haven't had a disc scratch while using the box that's standing up like others have posted.
I also don't move it while in use and none of our Cali earthquakes have rattled it either.
We also tend to install the games we're currently playing, so I'm sure that helps.
