I get a new console and I want to transfer data over from my old hard drive, I tried to use USB stick(a couple actually) and it keeps saying "did not pass data loss test, cannot configure device" is there any solution to this or do I have to buy an Xbox Memory card??

Thanks

How big are they? They need to be 1GB or more to be used. You definitely do not have to buy an Xbox branded one though, I've used plenty of normal sticks.

Seconded. I'm using an el cheapo 4GB USB drive at the minute and it's fine. I think the fact they "don't pass MS's standards" or whatever is just a scam to trick you into buying an MS branded drive.

tehy're both over 1 gig, one is 4GB the other is 2GB, and they are in the correct format.
Does it matter if they've had stuff saved on them or do they need to be brand new?

They need to be high speed usb sticks 2.0 minimum I think not 100% sure. Try deleting all the data on the usb then format it on the 360
