I have a xbox 360 hdmi right now which hasnt had any problems at all and I love it. But, the new xbox looks nice and I could use the wireless feature and bigger hard drive. The only bad things I have heard about the new xbox is that it can overheat and if you move it while playing it will destroy your disc (which i never do). So should I get the new one or not? Is there any other problems...

If you have the money and want a new console, then go ahead, you clearly have reason to. I'm too poor so I'll just buy a 250GB HDD separately and live with the damn ethernet cables and lack of HDMI.

No matter which version of the Xbox 360 you buy, it will destroy your disk if you move, so that shouldn't affect your decision.

If you have a spare $300 lying around than go ahead, if not there really isn't a need to upgrade.

If I had the money I would, it looks real cool and it has a built in wi-fi. So why not?

Don't bother unless your current 360 craps out on you. Your current 360 works fine.

I would suggest you find out just how fast the new xbox is or wait for good reviews.

Yes buy one. Let us know if it overheats. It doesn't scratch discs, unless you tip it over like a dummy.

Unless your current version is so screwed up you have to get a new one, save your money for something more useful, like taking a lady friend on some dates and stuff.

Wait until your current xbox breaks, then buy it. No need for 2.

Once my current one wears out, I will probably get it. I suggest the same to you. Don't get it until you have to.

I will probably get one, when mine decided to kick it. Right now it works just fine and it all ready has a 250gig hard drive in it. Plus by the time mine does kick it, the new ones should be heat prof. Microsoft hasn't officially said these new ones are heat prof, or at least I haven't see or heard they are heat prof.

I made a thread specifically about this (whether to upgrade/buy a new one). It's fairly detailed, here's the link (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=239689).

TL;DR Version: If it's not broken, don't buy a new one. You can upgrade your current one to do everything the new one can do at a fraction of the cost. If that still doesn't convince you, at least wait until the holidays when they have a decent bundle.

As somebody who's repaired a few 360's, both of those are common problems with the current batch of 360's too.

In fact the new one is LESS likely to do any damage when it gets hot. The current ones gradually break down due to heating issues, the new one will shut itself down at critical temps to protect the computer.

I plan on purchasing one in a couple of weeks myself. Just shop around because there seems to be a price war going on.

I vote getting the new one. Just as soon as I can get the money, I'll be getting on myself.

Course, then I'll have two 360s, but that's a good thing in my opinion.

He's talking about the Xbox 360 S, not Kinect.

I hate console re-releases, I love the original consoles, same with PSOne, PS2 and PS3. I love the chunkier ones as those are the classics! As for wireless, wired will always be better, stick to ethernet. I hate the new PSP as well, the 3000 model looks so much nicer. The only updated console I agree with is the DSi, it is tons better, although the DSXL looks stupidly oversized.

Anyways....I wouldn't bother.

Oddly enough, I'm usually the same. I usually get the originals, but after I got robbed, the Elite came out, so I got that one.

Now all my consoles are black. I think the only real reason I'm even getting the 360 S is because it's gloss rather than matte, and both the Wii and PS3 are gloss as well.

OCD and whatnot, I guess.

Haha, I don't blame you, I am OCD about my gear matching, I have an Elite as well so it matches the PS3 and I would deffo buy the black Wii if I get another one someday. Colors I don't mind new versions, but whole new designs I don't normally like.

I always warn people about buying new versions of things right away, because there hasn't been enough time to find out all the problems. Much like the iPhone 4 right now. It looks cool, does a lot of cool things, but guess what? Consumer Report said hell no, because of a major flaw. This will just mean that another iPhone 4 will come out later and be much better.

As for the new 360, just wait it out. If it stays positive, go ahead. If not, just wait for a more enhanced one to come out. With electronics, it's always smart to be patient.

I was 50/50 on one myself, but have decided to hold off, I mean chances are we'll see a ltd ed. Reach or gears 3 one, and that's the point I shall grab one.

I'd say no. If your current 360 works fine, there is no point in buying a new one.

I myself am just echoing everyone that have said they'd only get one if their current console dies. There's nothing about it that has me exactly "needing" it compared to the console I have now ... expect maybe that it looks sleek :p Still, not enough reason.

I agree with the other people in this thread who have said don't bother with getting the new one unless yours is on its last legs.

They aren't really that great, basically everything thats already available in a new shell, unless of course you have money to waste.

Plus i have horrible images of a new RRoD happening on the first lot of new consoles.... :(

I bought one shortly after it came out. It all depends on your situation. I had an old Pro system, just swapped out a 120GB Hard Drive. It was loud, had the old chipsets, not to mention the ridiculously huge power supply. I wanted the newer upgrades to the hardware, the 250GB hard drive, and the built in Wi-Fi. Made perfect sense to me to get it. I love it so far, though I have had an issue connecting to Xbox Live. Working on getting that resolved. Other than that, I've really enjoyed it.

I currently have one and so far doing fine. Havent over heated considering I play quite a lot in one whole day and I install my games to the harddrive to prevent higher risk of disc damage if i move the system. The wireless I think so far is practically as fine and the adapter. Faster? not sure what to say about that. The harddrive helped me since i had no harddrive to begin with since i used to share a console. Let me put it this way don't trust everything you hear just find someone you know or is local and ask them about theirs. Beats dealing with all the biased crap on the net and any people who just hate or who knows what. In terms of system quality just be good to your system and it should be fine. Oh fair warning the cables are a little bit shorter than the original 360 cords. But I want to agree with the others that if you have a working 360 original and already have half the stuff and are just missing idk the 250G Harddrive then I wouldn't bother. Chances are i bet they'll do something new to the system mayb. But yea don't have to take my word for it.

What kind of issues? I'm currently having issues with my nat type constantly going to strict and staying that way.

Technically its also a money saver if you dont have most of the junk required for live and the harddrive. Total up the math on the original since everything is basically seperate compared to the new system and you probably know where i'm going with that.

Only if you want to.

My 360 is running fine, considering how old it is (the only time I got bricked was when $@^@$Y$%^@$^ Nielsen got their grubby paws on it) but it doesn't do hdmi, which sucks since I've got a nice television. It's nice to say 'if it ain't broke' but I'd really like to see my games in HD. * shrugs *

For me, it's a no brainer. I'm definatley going to get one, because it's the most profitable option at the moment for me. EB Games will give me $100 for my 120gb Pro, and also throw in Red Dead Redemption for free, another $100. That leaves me to pay $350, down from $450. Red Dead, I was going to buy for $100anyway, so technically that's another $100 off. That leaves $250 left.
Now, if I wanted a wireless adapter for my current Xbox, that's $150. And a 250GB hard drive is $200, which equals $350. So, if I trade my current console for a slim, I'm saving $100 (technically).
And my current console has been going for over 2years now, so odds are it's going to crap itself shortly.
So for me, it's cheaper to buy a slim now, then upgrade my current console. But for you, it might be different. Everyone's situation is different, which will affect your decisions.
(All prices are in $AU)

If your current one works fine then no reason to upgrade imo, i'm personally waiting for mine to break so there's a reason to upgrade.

I already have the wireless for my current premium, though i only have a 60GB HDD but i can manage with that for now.

See how much you can get for your current 360 tradein price, you might be able to get the New 360 for a bargain. ;)

I brought it just because its quieter! i love it, no more rumbling and annoying noises playing games or relaxing to skyplayer.

The built in wifi also seems a lot stronger than my old adapter plugged into the back of my old elite (this is based off the streaming speed of sky player)

bigger hard drive is a plus for those who use the hard drive as for the multiple usb ports on back I dont see any real need for that many so far but i dont know what the future holds so im not going to down it.

Overall a happy purchase for me. Cost me 60 quid upgrading elite at blockbuster also giving me 1 free months rentals

I would switch while you can, What most people are saying is to keep it but why?? When for one you can still get a decent trade value for your old xbox where as it will be worthless come 6-12 months, Also worthless if it craps out on you later down the road. Not to mention all the upsides of the new system. I will be getting mine this week and trading in my old xbox before it kicks the bucket. :)

Buy it if you got the money. It's really quiet when it runs, especially after installing a game to the hard drive.
