Microsoft’s new compact Xbox 360 S (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6265236.html) has achieved the biggest UK launch for a “revised” home console, according to data from UK chart keepers Chart-Track (http://tinyurl.com/3afgks6). Launch sales have surpassed those of the PlayStation 2 Slim and PS3 Slim. The Xbox 360 S has also matched the original 360’s 2005 launch sales since its release on Friday. The news follows the successful release of the console in the US last month, where VGChartz estimates it sold over 250,000 units (http://tinyurl.com/329ypxq).

The Xbox 360 S was unveiled at this year’s E3 expo (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6265236.html), sporting a smaller, piano-black design, 250GB removable hard drive, built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a special port for upcoming motion-control peripheral Kinect. The much maligned noise levels of it’s predecessor are also said to have been reduced, with a new cooling system promising a quieter gaming experience. The console currently retails for £199 in the UK.

I must say, im quite suprised. But there were alot of good deals out there such as Splinter Cell: Conviction for free when bought with the console and the new xbox and 6 games for £209.99 (Which included GoW2 and Halo: ODST)

I'm not all that surprised; the PS3 Slim, IMO, isn't worth it unless the original breaks down.

Same reasoning why I won't consider a 360 Slim until mine breaks down. Except the 360 Slim is in a new color, and I know at least five people that are getting solely for that =P

I'll be one of them and I love it!

The touch sensitive on/off button and same with the open tray, to the sound it make when you press them.

Looks good and sounds great!

I got mine on Friday after trading in my 3.5 year old 360. Finally I have a silent 360 with hdmi. Also liking the touch sensitive buttons.

It's a shame that Microsoft still are not including rechargeable battery packs for the controllers.

And a HDMI cable! You may want to buy one if you haven't already!

Not many people bought a PS3 Slim then, I would have thought it might have sold a few more at the moment considering it hasn't been out long (at least not over here).

I'll stick with my old one for now until I have the money spare to chuck away on a new console, mine's got a few good years left I'm sure. Still, it does look very tempting... :p

I'm not surprised to be honest. I know three people that have a PS3 (one of them has a Slim) and >30 with a 360. Which is the more popular console...

Doesn't surprise me one bit. This bad girl is quiet as all heck, the built in WiFi has some pretty incredible range(better than my wireless N adapter), and it looks very sleek. Plus, Kinect ready... can't beat that.

A very good purchase if I do say so myself.

no surprise here, more 360 users then PS3, more of an upgrade then the PS3 slim was

Xbox overall had the highest sales in the last month over all consoles (second was wii with like 20,000+ less units sold). I think the only thing that outsold it was nintendo DS (could be wrong on that one though). I forget the exact numbers, they were on major nelson's podcast but it was around 550,000 units i think.
