NEW YORK Commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday the league is looking into the possibility of playing a Super Bowl outside the United States, although not before 2012 at the earliest.
It was among a range of proposals he announced the league is considering during a meeting with sports editors two days before the league's annual draft.
Goodell said the three most likely international sites for a Super Bowl would be London, Toronto or Mexico City because they are in time zones that would allow the game to be televised in the United States at reasonable hours.
Also, the league also could expand its international appeal by cutting the exhibition season to three games and adding a 17th game, to be played outside the United States.
The NFL already has played one regular-season game in Mexico City and the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins will meet in London next Oct. 28 as part of a planned rotating schedule for annual overseas games involving different teams.
A 17th game would have to be approved by the NFL Players Association, but would solve the problem of taking a home game from a team, as the current plan does. The game in London was scheduled as a Dolphins home date.
There is some talk of changing the date of the Pro Bowl, perhaps to the weekend before the Super Bowl to get more fan attention. There are three years left on the league's contract to play the game in Hawaii, but the league is allowed to move it in one of those years.

That's fucking stupid, football is for Americans. No offense to all the Brits and other worldly people on the boards here, but you all don't even understand the sport most of the time, much less like it very much.

Correction, football is for Europeans. American Football is for Americans.

The game is not popular over here. Its a poor mans rugby :p.

Theyre trying to give the game to a market that doesnt want it. Yeah people watch the Superbowl, but only cos its a big event, not because they give a monkeys who wins it.

moving the pro bowl to the weekend before the super bowl is simply retarded

i mean the 2 teams in the super bowl will obviously have a great amont of pro bowlers.. and i bet the coaches/gm's/owners will DEFINATELY not want any of their players to play a single down in the pro bowl game.. (the risk of injury a week before the super bowl) and who could blame them??

they should have it in between like week 10 and 11 or something... but the week before the super bowl... wouldn't be wise

If "football" is only for Americans, why do the winners of the superbowl insist on calling themselves the "World Champions"? Correct me if im wrong but in order to be a world champion in any sport dont you have to play someone not from your country?

And with reference to the not understanding part its not rocket science! People make it out to be a complex sport, its no more complex than cricket ffs!

I didn't mean to insult anyone with my comment, but I've seen plenty of Brits in the Madden forums asking what Rushing Yards were and things like that... I understand it's not difficult, but many people aren't even bothered to try because the sport is "American" by nature... and I feel the same way about Cricket, I don't understand it and it's not something I am interested in really. Nobody would ever suggest moving a cricket final to America, so I don't get why they want to move a football final to Europe. (I say football because it's just football to me, it's not "American Football" since I'm American already... I understand you all had the term football first, and I concede we stole it, and sure it doesn't make much sense since there isn't even much footing involved, but that's what it is to me. :))

And the reason they call themselves "World Champions" is because they feel they won the biggest football event in the world, containing the best players in the world. Might not mean they beat out other worldly competitors, but you have to admit it's the biggest game in the world for the sport.

The Superbowl creates so much business in the city it's held... seems like a big loss for a major city in the States if it'd move...weak
