Plants Vs Zombies
Achievement Guide

Roadmap

Overview
-Estimated achievement difficulty: 4-6/10 (depending on whether you have previously played this on PC/iPod
-Offline: 12/12 (200http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg)
-Online: 0
-Approximate amount of time to 200http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg: 15-20 Hours
-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: A few as you'll need to go back to earn some cash to buy all the plants, the Tree of Wisdom and the food for the Tree of Wisdom
-Number of missable achievements: 0, however a 2nd controller is required for ZFFs 4 EVR and Versus vs Versus.

Step 1: Adventure Mode
Simply play through adventure mode. This will unlock Home Land Security. This should take a few hours to complete. Soil Your Plants and Crash of the Titan will unlock during your playthrough aswell. Remember once you have unlocked the chomper to go for Nom Nom Nom, and to also go for Close Shave once you have got all 5 lines of the lawn, as these are easily done once they first become available as there is no level select to choose the easier levels. You should also try to get Explodonator while you play through advneture mode.

Step 2: Versus Mode
You will need another controller to complete Versus vs Versus and ZFF's 4 Evr. This shouldnt take too long to complete

Step 3: Farming Cash
You will now want to try and earn enough cash to grow the Tree of Wisdom and to buy all plants from Crazy Dave. You will need a total of $345500 to unlock all plants and buy the Tree of Wisdom, the tree food and all the 9 plants. The best way to farm cash is play the Last Stand mini game, however to unlock this mode you will need to complete 13 of the mini games. Follow this video for an easy way to make cash quickly: (is done on PC but the same principles apply)
YouTube- How to easily earn $8000+ in Plants vs Zombies!!! (no luck involved!)
This method should take you anywhere from 5-10hrs to get enough cash to buy everything. However while playing you will get alot of plants for your zen garden. If you check on the plants there and sell them once they reach $8000 (or $3000 if they are pool plants/mushrooms) It will take you between 3-5 hours to get enough cash to buy all the plants and tree food.

Alternatively you can grind plants for your Zen Garden. Once you have a full set of 32 plants, you can disconnect your console from Xbox LIVE and change the date to the next day, so you don't have to wait until you can water/seed your plants again.
After changing the date 3-4 times, I've reached the final stage. Now you could farm coins, which are dropped by the plants or you could just sell all of them in order to gain about 240,000 bucks.

Step 4: Survival Mode
This will take the longest to do. You will first need to unlock Endless Survival, which is done by completing all the other survival challenges. Once these are done you will then need then reach flag 40 of Endless Survival.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Plants-Vs-Zombies-Survival-Endless-200-Flags-and-Beyond shows some good was of getting upto wave 40 and beyond.

Conclusion
You should now have all the achievements for PvZ. However there are still loads more to do in this game, such as challenges, zen garden, minigames, find the Zombie Yeti etc.

Complete adventure mode

This is done by playing through the adventure mode. There are 5 zones each with 10 parts;

Is in the garden during the day
Is in the garden during the night
Is in the pool area during the day
Is in the pool area during the night and fog
Is on the roof, with wave 10 being against the boss

These are all pretty straight forward to complete. Just choose the plants depending on what zombies are appearing and then you should have no problem in completing this mode. It can be done with 2 players playing through adventure mode.

Win any level after all 5 lawnmowers have been used

As soon as you have 5 parts of the lawn in adventure mode, (i think its the 3rd wave) let the first zombie on each row walk to the end and activate the lawn mower. Once a lawnmower has been destroyed you should then start to build on that row to protect it. Dont worry about your plants being destoryed as the lawmower doesnt affect them.

Plant your first 10 peashooters

Should appear in the first few levels while you play through adventure mode.

Defeat your first Gargantuar

Will unlock this while you play through adventure mode. You will first encounter a Gargantuar on the Roof levels. If you are struggling to defeat a Gargantuar then try and have the chilli and cherry bomb as you will need to hit it twice to kill it.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1160/-dgnCg==.jpg (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../game/plants-vs-zombies/achievement/42167-Nom-Nom-Nom.html)Nom Nom Nom 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg
Stop the horde using only the Sunflower, Wallnut, and Chomper on any level

Easiest to do when you first unlock the Chomper while playing through the story mode. Just build sunflowers on the back two rows then have chompers in the two rows in front with a Wall-Nut in front of them.
If your chomper is taking to long to eat the zombie then you can dig it up and build another one where it was to restore it back to its original state ready to eat more zombies.
Heres a Video guide to show you how to do it:
YouTube - Plants vs Zombies: Nom Nom Nom Achievement Guide

If you missed out on doing this when you first unlocked the chomper you can also do this easily on level 1-1 of your 2nd playthrough of Adventure mode or on Survival Day.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/1160/+7s91Q==.jpg (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../game/plants-vs-zombies/achievement/42164-Explodonator.html)Explodonator 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.jpg
Blast 10 zombies at once with a Cherry Bomb!

I found that the easiest way to do this was to have Cherry Bombs attached and wait till a huge wave of zombies appeared. Then place this is the middle of a large group, Hopefully ten zombies will be in this. If not just try again. Shouldnt take too long to do.
If you havent managed to get this in your playthrough of Adventure mode you can do it in versus mode. Make sure you have enough cash for a cherry bomb, and the person who is controlling the zombies has enough to call in 10 zombies. Then call in 10 zombies an plant the cherry in the middle.

Go trunk diving and spend at least $25,000 on Crazy Dave's Twiddydinkies

Will be obtained by the time you purchase all plants.

Collect all 49 plants in the game

For this you will need to have all 49 plant. 40 are unlocked through the adventure mode while the other 9 are bought from Crazy Daves Shop. The Imitater counts as a plant. These 9 plants will cost you $98000.

Grow the Tree of Wisdom to at least 100 feet

You will have to grow the tree of wisdom to 100 feet. Once you have completed adventure mode, the tree of wisdom is bought from crazy dave for $10,000. where it will then be located in the Zen Garden. You will then need to feed it tree of wisdom food. Each packet you feed it will raise its height by 1ft. Therefore you will need to purchase 100 packets. You start of with 5 so you will need to have $237,500 to purchase 95 more packets.

Go on a 5 game winning streak in VS. mode

Load up Versus mode with a 2nd controller. Then pause the game with the 2nd controller and click Concede Match. Repeat 5 times in a row. You must click Play again, when the game is finished, otherwise it will reset back to 0.

Bowl a winner with a friend in Co-Op Wall-Nut Bowling

Once you complete adventure mode you will need to go play the Wall-Nut bowling mini game. After you complete this in the coop mode Wall-Nut bowling will become available. Just play through it with a friend or have the 2nd controller as a back up to store Wall-Nuts so you can switch over when you run out. Remember to bowl the Wall-Nut which kills the last zombie.

Survive 40 waves of pure zombie ferocity

This will take the most time to complete. You will first need to unlock Survival Endless which is done by doing all the other survival challenges first. Once you do this you will need to last till wave 40.
The video below shows someone getting to flag 76+ Just watch it carefully and follow the same principles and it hopefully should take too long to complete
YouTube - Plants vs Zombies Survival Endless Flag 76 and Beyond

Just to note you need to die once you have 40+ flags for the achievement to unlock.
Also If you dont want to use cob cannons, for whatever reason, you can try this setup. Just remember to use Spikerock for all the zombonis. Thanks to Brambledamble for this setup.

Thanks to TRICKY1976 for finding the video guides for Nom Nom Nom and Close Shave
Thanks to T0b3 for the Grinding Zen garden trick
Thanks to Son of Lies for the Explodonator trick

If there is anything wrong with this guide or you have found a better way to do an achievement just let me know and ill fix the problem/add in the better way

Also that is my first attempt at a road map and guide so any feedback will be grateful :)

I found explodonator easiest to do in stage 1-10. It's one of those levels where you get a scrolling bar of seeds and tons of zombies. Just store up a few cherry bombs and use them when there's a nice big bunch. If you have problems getting them into large enough groups before your plants kill them, feel free to dig up some peashooters since the cherry bomb will kill everything anyways.

Good guide.
I suggest you post the achievement descriptions though. I had to look the achievement descriptions up to know what you were talking about.

the video you have for farming cash doesn't really apply to the xbla version of the game due to there not being any sunflowers to get all those plants. it takes a lot of sun to do that and the levels aren't nearly long enough to earn all the sun and plant that much to make enough. I would say just playing through adventure mode and/or walnut bowling are a good way. I get anywhere from $1,000-1,500 on each level in the first set of adventure mode on the second playthrough and about the same in walnut bowling.

edit: actually, i just noticed that it is in last stand mode but i havent seen that in the xbox version yet. i might have missed it.

Last Stand is still in there. To get it you have to complete 13 of the minigames for it to unlock. Going through adventure mode again and again you can get earn enough money however it takes a longer time to do

Try and build something like this s=sunflower, c=chomper, w=wall-nut
if there are too many attacking on one row you can always dig up and re build a chomper.

Nice guide!!!

Found the Explodonater was easily done in the mini-game water level where all the zombies are tiny and you are given loads of cherry bombs automatically. Will check on the name of the level later.

Here is an easier way to get the Versus vs Versus achievement:

Set the game up as usual, then have the 2nd player hit start and click on "Consent" (it means give up), repeat it 5 times and the achievement is yours.

EDIT: I forgot if the word is "Consent" or "Concede". I'll look it up later to confirm it.

I have a little tip for that "Nom Nom Nom" Cheevo...
If you couldn' make it on your first playthrough you can do it on the second. It drives me nuts that there are waaay more zombies sneakin' trough your bushes. Still...it' possible but there is a way to get that much faster and without smashing your pad on the wall....

After you beat the final Boss you unlocked the "Survival-Mode".
Just pick that Mode, start the first Level (Daytime), pick your Sunflower, Wall-Nut and the Snapper start the game as it mentioned here before.
You won't even have to finish the whole Level to let the Cheevo pop up. After the first "Last Wave" it will be your's...

Just a tip: Farming money is way quicker this way:

Don't grind money, grind plants for your Zen Garden.

Just about enough to grow the tree of wisdom to more than 100 meters. :)

I also got Explodonator (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../game/plants-vs-zombies/achievement/42164-Explodonator.html) with her in Versus; I just had her use the disco and flag zombie and Big Badda Boom...Chievo.

I just did the last stand thing and everytime i did that the plants wanted watering, and i would also have afew more plants for my zen garden. Didnt have a full set yet though, think i was about 4 plants short but they appear randomly if im correct.

Can you get the 40 rounds achievement in the co op endless survival? Im afraid i dont know, however you might be bale to seeing as you can do adventure mode with 2 players and it counts

And in regards to farming cash, this method is far more effective, http://twitpic.com/4z1sb. You get more marigolds and the zombies don't get to the pumpkins as fast.

KIDDRAGON67
09-11-2010, 01:35 PM
Couple tips, for Explodinator. Plant Wallnuts on the stage where the zombies are small since they come out faster. Once a large wave comes in, in the first 5 seconds theirs about 12-15 zombies to be killed if you plant a cherry bomb in between the pool and top/bottom row of lawn.

For the Versus vs Versus, I set up 2 controls and I played as zombies since they only need one to get through. Make sure you select the standard 25 point zombie and send him off straight away and once he takes care of the lawn mower send off a Football zombie since he runs the fastest. Should'nt take longer than 5 minutes that way.

Hello Everyone, I became a member five minutes ago. However, I have visited the site and the forum for 1 year. So ... This is my first post, and I want to say thanks for this great guide that helped me a lot. But right now I'm seriously depressed,I played Survival: Endless for over two hours and failed at flag 39 .. You know, I didn't even realize that there is a Co-op Endless. I wouldn't be surprised if it works. My wife and I will try it out in the next day or so. I'm sure she'll be happy to give it a shot; she thinks I've been hogging up the game. Heh.

The gargantuans weren't even giving me any trouble. The problem was that they were blocking the psycho zombies, who ended up blowing up a couple of my plants. Because I was using upgrades, I couldn't keep up with the costs and wasn't able to replace them in time.

Very nice guide.

One thing to note, on the Xbox360, you don't need to click to collect sun or coins. This means that many of the builds to collect coins (such as the money grinding video in the OP), you don't really need to use the gold magnets to help. Get rid of those in favor of two more marigolds.

Great guide but I cant figure out how to play co-op bowling???
Ive finished adventure mode and completed the solo bowling

Can someone tell me where the co-op bowling is?

Edit:Think Ive found it on here-
You have to go to the coop menu and from there click on coop bowling. As long as you beat single player bowling from the mini games section it should be there. And while you playing the game make sure that player 1 kills the last zombie. Then boom achevement

Sure I tried this though... Ill give it another try when I get home

Great guide, but I'd suggest doing the Survival Mode before farming cash. I did it in the order your road map said, and at the end of Endless Survival, I had around $120,000 left over. It'd just make more sense and shave some hours off if you did Survival first.

1 question about survival mode:

how do you unlock the other locked survival modes? How many flags you have to win in the already available survival modes (day, night, and pool)?

Neverender

You unlock additional survival modes by beating the ones you have available. As for the flags, there are five on each of the normal ones and ten on all of the ones that say (Hard) at the end. Once you beat all ten of those survival modes, Endless Survival will unlock.

Awesome Guide. Using it at the minute and well on my way to the 200G. I found the explodonator achievement easiest to get a slightly different way.

First I went to endless survival and used the method shown in the guide to farm the gold, however, instead of planting marigolds I just planted sunflowers and pea shooters. When a huge wave of zombies appear in the later flags (above 10 or so) just drop a cherry bomb on the top or bottom row. When I did it there was way more than ten :)

Just my 2 cents since for some reason I found this achievement to be a little annoying.

From what I've found Googling, it can be done on co-op, but you have to get to 80 flags instead of 40, because that's technically the 40th wave on co-op. The one post that said it also mentioned it was insanely hard, though, so I wouldn't do that. If you're having trouble, do the cob cannon-less strategy:

http://s1.hubimg.com/u/1428272_f520.jpg

That's what I did, but one suggestion: move the umbrella plant up one in the row. It'll protect more from bungie zombies and will kill miner zombies quicker. And, of course, use spikerocks to kill any vehicles, because they will ruin your setup, and they'll do it VERY quickly.

A quick guestion about the zen plants.

What is the maximum value that a plant can get? I'm currently stuck with 12 plants all with the value of 8.000. Is this the maximum ?

Thx

The max values are $8,000 for a standard plant, $3,000 for a Marigold, and $10,000 for a mushroom or aquatic plant. To fully grow the mushrooms or aquatic plants you have to buy a new garden from Dave, though, so I ended up just selling them as soon as I know they were mushrooms or aquatic.

thanks for the great guide.
just reading through it for tips on survival mode, thought id point out that Close Shave can also be done on VS mode with two pads, simply use one zombie on each line to get rid of the lawn mowers, then plant to destroy the zombie targets with your other pad :)
just another way of getting the achievement but without any chance of failing

Do me a favor and dig out those Spikerocks for me. Also unPumpkin the front Fumes in the outer row and play the most intense Zomboni level you can find. Then come back and tell me how many plants get run over by a Zomboni.

That defense can survive indefinitely with Squash/Cherry for outer row Gigas and Freeze for inner row Gigas. Keep the rotation going and everything dies. You just have to watch out for Jack accidents in the pool. Replace the Glooms quickly and use Cherry/Freeze to stall time. I'd recommend knocking out a pool Winter-Pult so you have a dedicated slot to using Freeze Shrooms. I bring Freeze/Imitater Freeze/Cherry/Squash/Pumpkin/Bean/Lily Pad/Fume/Gloom and 1 Free slot. The free slot I usually grab Puff/Jalapeno/Doom.

Here's a better build:
http://h.imagehost.org/0111/Elegant.jpg (http://h.imagehost.org/download/0111/Elegant)

And if you want to get really savvy, you can get Ladders on your Pumpkins like this: http://imgur.com/a/A2x44

Laddering can give you "No Damage" builds like this:
http://i.imgur.com/RvlTv.jpg

If you don't believe it can work, you can watch these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz3d66qzNec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKVmCzrTg6I&feature=related

I understand that the PC version may be easier to control than the console, so you can always insert 2 Cob Cannons into the build by replacing the Twin Sunflowers. I recommend you have at least 4 Twins though, so replace a Winter-Pult or Gloom somewhere.

Stop the horde using only the Sunflower, Wallnut, and Chomper on any level

If you missed this during your first campaign, don't fret, since there are more zombies on your second adventure.

Instead of attempting this on campaign, it's much simpler to do this in Survival Mode:
Daytime, choose, and use only, the Sunflower, Chomper and Wall-Nuts.

Much easier on Survival if you missed it during first adventure mode.

Sure you can do it. I used to think I couldn't do it either but it's all about getting set-up quickly and having the right plants at your disposal during the rounds.

I'll lay out a few steps for you.

Before you start make sure you have bought all of the available plants and the extra slots. You for sure will need the duplicator plant.

First wave you need to bring the following plants
1. Sun
2. Double sun
3. Lilypad
4. Cat tail
5. coffee bean
6. fume shroom
7. gloom shroom
8. the mine plant
9. watermelon
10. pumpkin

First step is immediately buy a sun plant, put anywhere in back row
start collecting sun. When you see zombie heading towards you put a mine as close to your house as you can
Keep putting suns until you have about 4 or 5 of them then start collecting money to put a lilypad/cattail in the 5th column.
Put more lilypads in the pool now and start putting sunflowers in the first 3 pool columns.
You will need to put a second lilypad/cattail in the pool.
In the second non pool columns put fume shroom in all 4 slots.
Start filling in front of your cattails with fume/gloom and pumpkin these. It's probably a good idea to pumpkin your cattails.
Start double sunning your pool suns.

You should be able to get through the first 2 flags with a good start on this set-up.
Flags 3/4 you should focus on getting watermelons/ice melons in each row including the pool directly below the cattails.
Finish out filling in of your pool fume/glooms in the front. These front pool plants are essential in any set-up I have seen. They can handle anything pool side including the red-eye gigas.
You should put your umbrella plant in during flags 5-6.
I would recommend cob-less set-up as above as it's less error prone.

The key to being successful is to have the right consumables.
Every wave I always bring the following plants
1. Pumpkin
2. Coffee Bean
3. Ice Shroom
4. Lilypad
5. fume shroom
6. gloom shroom
7. jalapeno
8. cherry

These are the basics which you cannot survive without.

For the other plants I do the following
No red-eyed gigas
9. Double pumpkin
10. blover if balloon guys are present

If gigas are present
9. Double ice shroom
10. squash
Because you need the extra fire power to stop them.

If you are only interested in getting to 40 waves to get the achievement then the double pumpkin/squash will suffice as you don't get too many red-eyed guys.

Of note
The jack in the boxes are the biggest threat in the game. This is why you need to bring the fume/gloom/pumpkin/coffee bean/lily. A single explosion can take out your first two gloom shrooms. You can replace one of them instantly and then use your consumables on the affected side until you can replace the second one.

Make sure you keep an eye on your pumpkins to make sure they don't take too much damage.

Be careful of the bungie zombies and try to save consumables to take care of unprotected plants. Most of your plants should be protected with the above set-up but not all. A jalapeno or cherry on unprotected plants can save your plants.

I have a cobless set-up which is different than the above but the general principle is the same. I just passed 1100 flags in my game and am going for the number 1 score. It's painfully time consuming.

On wave 800 I had a simultaneous pool side jack in the box accident and lost my front 4 pool shrooms and was able to survive the wave barely. 4 flags later and everything was repaired and full cash again. You can survive 40 waves easily if you get set-up quickly.

I've played the demo, and before I buy, I was wondering if the achievements are easy to get, or if you have to try levels over and over to try and do some fancy trick.
