View Full Version : Death Star II Undefeated Rubber Band Strategy

Easy as Pie. Position a rubber band to keep the X button down. This frees up your thumb to do all the barrell rolling you can want, AND MORE!

Shooting torpedos is also a breeze with the rubber band in place.

The best way I can describe the positioning is a northwest to southeast line, on the right controller grip. The rubber band goes between the battery pack and RT/RB, and then across the X button holding it down, all the way down to the lowest right tip of the controller grip.

The rest of the strategies for Death Star II apply: use the TIE interceptor at all times (except for blowing the core, then use the Millenium Falcon), barrell roll constantly, and don't forget that hearts do not disappear on this level.

I was so happy this worked as well as it did, I messed up a couple of times in the last section because I kept barrell rolling. Then I realized...there are no fighters here, so it's just manuevering.

Good Luck, and I hope this helps you.

if it really works i, shouldn't u take off the rubber band on the very last part cause barrel rolling screws u up and u might smash into a wall.

Holding down the X is to fire, not to constantly roll...

Thanks for the great advice on this, I didn't have a rubber band, but I used scotch tape over the x button and it did the same thing. Finally, got the last achievement for this game.

I traded this game in a long time ago, but thanks for the tip on beating this last level. If I pick up the game at a later time, this will really help me at least get one of the perfect level achievements that I need.

BIG thx, took me a few tries to beat it, mostly cuz i was being too overly cautious, but this worked like a CHARM. as i flew out of the core seconds away from getting the 1k for beating it all i thought to myself "man i love those forums" :D

I'll have to give this a shot. I got 980 pretty easily, and tried this final mission a couple times before deciding it probably wasn't worth the aggrivation. Not because I don't think I couldn't do it, but mainly because the game has a tendency to freeze up on me with this mission. Having 980 doesn't really bother me that much, but with this strategy making it a bit easier, I'll probably give it a few more shots to finish the game completely.

So far this tricked worked great for all the flying mission I have tried.

Tonight i shall see if it helps with the Death Star II using the tie interceptor.

I tried it last night with the Tie Interceptor and rubber bands. It worked flawlessly. Even flew out of the Death Star with the Tie interceptor.

This is an awesome tip, I used it for all the flying missions and got them in one shot. Death Star II took me two tries only because at the very end I got trapped in one of those electric bolts and it wouldnt let go. This should be stickied to the main page with all the people having trouble with this mission.

Thank you very much for this little gem. I finally finished this game tonight and beat this last level on my third try. I used tape rather than a rubber band, but it was gorgeous nonetheless. This is going down as one of the 1000's that I'm most proud of.

This worked great! I beat Into the Death Star on my second try. I couldn't find a rubber band  so I just used my thumb.

thats awesome... ill try it :) i was wondering, you know in the core of the second death star do you have to actually kill all of those stupid electric things or can you ignore them? ... they piss me off.

do you have to actually kill all of those stupid electric things or can you ignore them? ... they piss me off.

Yes you do, you don't get access to shoot the core unless you get rid of the electric thingys.

I haven't tried the rubber band yet but I'm getting desperate and my sister wants her game back! Hopefully it will work for me too!

Thx for the great tips.

Rubber bands rock! This and the Death Star strategy ( http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18394 ) were a great help.

this was a great help! got it in about 3 tries. make sure you use the tie interceptor, because its way harder with any other ship.

I did it second try as well and used the tie interceptor the entire way. very easy and i didn't even have to read the guide.

Almost made it. In the final part, I dont know how but I hit something and blew up, trying to escape from the blast. Sucks. But at least I got further. The tip was good but I just need better execution.

Oh my! I totally meant to post my thanks for this method! I 100%'ed the game a few weeks ago. ^_^

Though my rubber band hated me, and took a lot of finagling to stay in place. UGH.

I finally did it. props to the OP. this trick is great, but even so, the 2nd death star level was hard enough that I just needed to practice a bit.

This keeps happening to me. On the second escape part, I hit something every time and get caught in the fire

Edit: Nvm, tried again and did it without any problems.

Bleh. Without the rubber band trick I get to the core 50% of the time. Now I always get there, but I've still died in there at least 20 times.

Anything I'm doing wrong? The OP says to use the Falcon, but I don't see why. I'm lucky if I can kill one of the wall things with the Falcon.

Edit: Wow. I swear this game hates me. I just tried it again, made it all the way, and the game froze before it gave me the achievement. Really.

Edit: Took me a few more deaths. Finally figured out what I was doing wrong with the electro-wall thingys. But I made it. Ugh. This is even worse than Mile High Club on CoD4.

Neither did I. I knew about the loop-de-loop but not the barrel roll.

----------------------------------------

Haven't yet gotten this far with the girlfriend (playing the game together), but I don't see why you can't just keep your figure on X the whole time and just press "A" a bunch of times... it's the basics of any Mario game. If that doesn't work, I'll use this rubberband as a lucky charm =P

i might be talking out of my ass here cause its been years since i played the game couldnt you do co-op? then just use the second controller to do everything and take it slow with player one?

like i said its been years since i played idk if co-op is even an option in this game.

well so far out of the 4 flying levels i have completed two with this method, rebel attack and falcon flight i just finished not to long ago

hoth gave me some trouble and death star idk about....

its very stressful many times i have gotten to the last part without losing hearts then died just because i was to impatient.

only advice i can give is be calm, think positive, remember hearts don't vanish, just take it slow and focus, i must have done the falcon flight mission 6 times before my 7th and i didnt get hit once on my last time.

oh and as a side note... does anyone know how to change your GS in your gamercard to the left mine says 90749 but i actually have 100854.?

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering what was the best way to place the elastic band. But if I can't find one, I'll have to use some tape, on the non Gears 3 controller of course :D

I'm three hours away from almost hitting 100% and then it's just this level so I think I've gotta try.

UPDATE
I just got it :) Many thanks for all tips here. I stuck with the Interceptor in the end. I didn't think any ship would be faster and escaped on my first go :)

Oh and I taped the X button. It came loose a couple of times but wasn't much of an issue.
