Hey everyone! I was just curious to see how many of you still go to the shops to buy games? I havent bought a game from a shop in about 2 years now as the shop prices tend to be so expensive compared to online.

It's not just games, dvds, blu rays, books you name it can all be found cheaper online so I rarely bother going to the shops anymore.
The only shops i do go into are clothes shops occasionly as I prefer to try on before I buy and any small game shop I come across to see what retro stuff they have on offer.

One of my friends is the complete opposite of me, he never buys anything online and he said he dosent mind paying more as he gets to socialise with shop staff and various people.

So are you a traditional shopper who prefers to go out and not mind paying extra? or do you prefer to sit back, click your mouse and let everything arrive on your doorstep?

I'm actually a woman who HATES to shop. I know it's uncommon, to say the least. I would rather click to buy than mingle with the masses. However, if I want a game right away that I plan to pay full price for anyway, I'll head down to a store to buy it. It's my way of supporting the developers of games that I really want to play by paying full price. I would hate to see them go out of business because I wasn't willing to pay what it's worth.

I've no hard or fast rule apart for being keen to find a low price. I recently bought ODST for 5 in a shop and often times new release games are 25 in the sup[ermarkets where online they're 35 on release day at cheapest (Fifa 11 for example)... online is generally cheaper but the savings shrinking and online deals are often negligable.

This. I look for the best deal I can find, regardless of where it is. Unfortunately, this means I almost always have to get it online because the only game retailer within 45 miles is Wal Mart :(

Always. I haven't purchased online in a while because I haven't found the need to.
I only consider online if I can't find an item in stock (:

Once in a blue moon I'll got to Walmart or Gamestop if I don't want to wait for a game. But usually I'll buy from Amazon or Gamefly.

GAME has some good deals under the pre-owned section. Prices comparable to what you might pay on ebay. Plus you can earn points and get money off future purchases.

I live on an island so we are a small society and I like to support people I know. So I buy 90% of my games from a friends store.
Prices are normal and and although we live away from capital of my country I have most of the games 2 days before they being placed in the rest of Greece.
The rest 10% I usually buy it from play.com but only if a relative is there to order it for me.

The majority of my games purchases now come from online stores, the only game i've bought from a shop this year was Mass Effect 1 back in February as it was very cheap due to it's market age.

I rarely buy games. I usually rent games before I actually buy them. What's great is that most games come out and are in the video rental store when kids are in school and I don't college classes later so I generally rent the game because they will always be there. :D

I usually buy most of my games online from GAME or Play.com as I find the prices to be cheaper than going into a shop. However if I'm out and I see a game that I want then I will buy from the shop.

I buy the majority of my games from Amazon.com and the rest from either Gamefly or Ebay. The price diffrence is usualy like 50%-75% lower online from my experience.

I use gamestracker (www.gamestracker.com) to scour the web, it saves me a fortune. Once I find the cheapest place I instead of using gamestracker to get their redirection reward, I go to quidco and if they do quidco cashback then i'm laughing.

most of my mates and family don't bother with quidco, but have look at this snapshot of my profile. In two years I've had nearly 625 from them with most online games retailer giving me 6% cashback on my purchases.

I find that used games can usually be found cheaper in a shop, but I always buy DVDs new so for them, online shopping is a must...

I tend to do this, although i havn't got one of those game cards haha. I'm contemplating buying one, or alternatively the gamestation equivalent. Both these two shops are close to each other in the town centre, so i get my games from either one, both prices are around the same, but stock is different when looking at preowned games.

I have bought two games online this year though, one was for a free polo shirt when i preordered fifa 11 from the hut and the other was from amazon because i had a gift voucher.

I'm pretty much 50/50. Most new games I buy at stores, while most used games I buy online- I use Ebay and will get old used games for $5.00 and under lol.

I've been doing a combination of buying games from GameStop/Best Buy, renting from Blockbuster and using Gamefly.

Not bought a game from the shops for a little while. I've built up a backlog of games that I'm ready to trade in though so that shall be remedied soon enough.

I've never bought a game online. I am always worried that i wont get it in time. Plus when i buy a game i like to going to the store and browsing other games also.

I ordered Modern Warfare 2 from game online and got it the day before release.
I ordered Halo: Reach from tesco online and also got that the day before release. This has happened on other releases since my Dreamcast days.

I also find Game's second hand prices to be incredibly high, usually the same price as it's new version would be online.

Buying games online is only good if you don't care about playing it right away, but the games i wanna play right away i go to my closest gamers and get it, like i will with black ops.

I buy some buys from shops, if I know that there's no difference from online or if it's only a few dollars more (which i'd be willing to pay for instance satisfaction/no shipping fee).

I buy new games from stores. It's usually no difference at all or you get different bonus content than online. I also usually get discounts at the store I shop at. The last two new games I bought were Lego Harry Potter and Transformers: War for cybertron. I didn't pay more than $30 for either, I got $25-$35 off each game.

Depends. Most of the time, I go to the store because I want it immediately. But sometimes, I'm too lazy to go to the store or it's only available online so I go that route.

I usually buy my games from best buy or game stop.. But if I'm not in a rush and don't want the game right away I'll order it off amazon and save a little bit.. I tend to buy used games and I still find some of the best deals at game stop.

I hate waiting so shop for me everytime the price doesn't really bother me. As normally i'm out shopping with the lady so it's easier, the hard part is getting a reason to go home and play it right away ;)

Its been a while since I bought something from a store. Usually I get them online because I can find them cheaper. I like how Amazon sometimes has $20 credit when you pre-order some games.

About 99% of the time. I just like having the game in-hand immediately to go home and try our, except pre-orders I can't resist making when no where near a store. Then you have to wait anyway.

I only buy online if I find the offer to be something you wont ever find in shops for a long time, normally I buy in shops though as its so much easier if theres anything wrong with the game.. I dont have to do all that crap emailing.. then finally knowing if I cann send it back or not.

For big special editions, or games that come with hardware, I will buy online. But most of the time I just buy from the shops as I go into Preston 4 days a week for uni and if I use my uni card, I get 10% off and double points. So a 40 game online is like 34 or something to me in a shop.

10-29-2010, 01:35 PM
I tend to get my games from shops all the time apart from the off chance that I come across a good deal online, Amazon or Play.com usually.

It depends, I mean Wal-mart sells games for 30 dollars once they start to get old and my wife works there go it's like tax-free, so I will snag up on them. Sometimes I buy online and sometimes I go to gamestop or hastings to get old cheap games and rent.

Really it just depends and living in an apartment having to run to the post office/UPS store everytime I get a package gets old, since I am at work all day and someone will jack it.

I do both, normally new games I order online but sometimes if I am out shopping and go into a game shop and see something I like the look off pre-owned then I'll buy it in game normally.

if i have games that iv'e completed laying around and i want to trade them, i will put them towards a game or pre-order, otherwise i buy them from a ebay seller called australia-games, there based in the UK but sell to AUS and NZ. Usually save somewhere around 25-75%
