Well, he's based off the character that Goku was originally based off of from "Journey to the West", so there are bound to be many similarties. Even the name Tripitaka is also based directly from the original story.

Although I don't remember Goku's stick shooting plasma bolts :)

There's a guy named Samson in Marvel Vs Capcom 2 with the same look, pole, hair, and cloud too. He can also transform into a Giant Monkey that fires from his mouth. Like the other guy said its the idea for all of them is based on a Chinese character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character_%28arts%29) form Wu Cheng'en (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Cheng%27en)'s 16th century classic novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Great_Classical_Novels) Journey to the West. I knew half got the author from wiki.

Never noticed the similiarities until you all pointed it out but personally i dont think his any resembelence to Goku more of a coincidence in my opinion he reminds me more of a monkey if anything with all the climbing and the cloath around his waist that looks like a tail i apologise but i cant seem to spell anymore lol i think i may have a few mispelt words here

This is absolutely shameful. How do people not know about Journey To The West? Anyone thinking Dragon Ball's Goku is a source material of ANY kind might want to consider wearing a helmet when going to the bathroom.

I'm of course referring to the TC and slack-jawed speculators. /grumpy rant

I like this version of the Journey to the west better, seems more true to the original material than Dragon Ball was, I mean, I tought Dragon Ball was fun when I was a kid and I liked the Journey to the west link somewhat, but yeah.. this game is a very nice adaption =)

Trip also resemble Bulma more than the priest/priestess that needs to go to the west/back home, skills wise at least, being a science/hacker chick, maybe a little bit personality wise as well, and the dragonfly scouter is "so" early Dragon Ball Z... =P

At least, that's what I "keep" seeing because of Dragon Ball, Pigsy is Oolang of course, and I guess Pyramid is Gaomao/the demon king, probably...

When they rode the motorcycle I actually tought about one of those early Dragon Ball covers as well, hehe, so I can see "why" people make the connection, but yeah, read up on Journey to the West before you assume it's based on Dragon Ball ;)

I'm wondering if Sha Wujing/Sand (in Dragon Ball terms I would say Yamcha) is gonna make an appearance in later dlc's as well? (haven't checked out Pigsy's Perfect 10 yet) and is Trip gonna get a white horse that's really a dragon prince as well?

One thing I really like about Enslaved is the subtle references to the ACTUAL source material. They deviated quite a bit, but at the same time, made many nods in homage.

For example:

There's a point where you fight a boss on the giant hand of a Titan, which is a reference to when Sun Wukong stood on the hand of Buddha without truly knowing it.
