View Full Version : What do you think would make this a perfect game? Like on a Halo and COD level

Dragon Age 2 is a pretty sweet game and thats coming from a FPS lover, so I guess it means something.but this game is kinda far from perfect I suppose. I still think this is one of the most underrated RP games thats out, In my opinion its better than Oblivion (not Skyrim) in more than a few ways but I think the few things that could make it perfect is at least 5 or 6 more classes to chose from. I know it would contradict the story but I mean it wouldn't hurt to add a dwarf, demon, or even a elven class and maybe a few more attributes like luck and charm to distribute your points to..I actually wouldn't mind seeing (now go along with me here, only dreaming) someone like J.R.R.Tolkien or even Peter Jackson writing/directing the story. Like I said, not hating on the game because I love it. I just think it has more potential..who agrees?

I know this is off topic but I would love to see a RPG game exactly like Dragon Age and made by Bioware and EA using the same engine but have classes like Spartan, Samurai, Viking, Apache, and anything else like that in the game where you can customize it the way you want and even have the same thing I said about Dragon Age 2 with the celebrity director coming into production like Zack Snyder doing the story...

What? Wait... what?

I don't even know where to start... so I'll just point out that J.R.R. Tolkien has been dead for a long time now, and walk away...

just..... no. Why would you feel the need to mention that you're not comparing this to a game that's not out and very few people have any real information about? (Skyrim)

All the 'classes' you mentioned would be more likely to be specialisations for the 3 classes in the game already.

Tolkien was a good author but he's mostly famous because he was the first well known author in his field. Not because his book is that much better than anyone else's. Bioware has good writers although help from someone like RA Salvatore wouldn't hurt.

Peter jackson? again, No. He's just a hollywood director isn't he? he'd make shit games. A good RPG requires far more depth of story than a 2+ hour film.

More attributes? I'm 50/50 here. It's hard enough picking where to spend the points already! the only reason i can see for more is to affect none combat encounters. (eg. Charm skill in Mass Effect)

There are very good reasons they've limited us to one race in DA2. The Voice. Multiple races means no player voice as it's just to much work ( not to mention storage space on the disc) recording that many voice actors.

I think this sums it up pretty well

And btw Zack Snyder is just a film director. Yeah he directed 300 and Watchmen but he wasnt involved in doing the Story so, no if he writes the story it would probably suck balls.

And how the hell would a Spartan, Samurai, Viking and Apache fit in a the same game, it just blows my mind.

okay admitted i really want to play as an elven rogue but the voice acting is way better since it kinda makes the story seem more "deep" but seriously an apache, samurai and hey while were going lets add a ninja, pirate, vikings are of course a must have... what else should we need ?

It's official..

All Sarcasm, Creativity, Imagination, and freedom is completely dead for this site.

When I said "better than Oblivion (not Skyrim)" I was kind of hoping that would narrow down the bitching and all the idiotic responses like "omgwtfbbq Skyrim is going to be like sooo better than Dragon Age 2 how dare you compare" but there is no winning on this site, and I blame myself for the responses I got for this post..apparently if you don't leave a trail of bread crumbs, its in one ear and out the other on here. My point I was getting at is what would make this game perfect to you? that being a question, not a statement. I asked for an OPINION and came out with some freedom bashers. I wasn't trying to rally up a lynch mob and try to go on strike so BioWare would change/add anything. I was just trying to get an opinion because this game is full of "It would have been sweet if they..." moments.

Honesty just saying like Halo and COD isn't even close to being perfect. They're just high selling games, not that good.

More classes would be good, but honesty just like someone said they'd be the next tier for each of the classes that are out now.

Also for the directors I can't see them doing better unless they've got video game backgrounds. Definitely not Peter Jackson that's for sure.

Definitely add back a few things from the first game, but I can't think of much to add at least yet this far into the game.

Yeah I was referring to COD and Halo just the fact that they are high selling games, The entire point of this post was to get peoples opinions on what Bioware should have done to DA2 to make it a top selling game like Halo or a COD game whether it be more hair colors or a pet gerbil that sells bibles.

I still think Peter Jackson would be a pretty sweet contribution to the game itself, I mean the DA2 story kind of lacks focus (Like most reviews state) and someone who took part in LOTR would definitely help this game out IMO

I don't know I don't really like his stuff.

Honestly though I don't think it's a problem with the writing as much as it is with how linear the story progress is compared to the first game when you could side with different creatures and their stories were completely warped and worked into the story along with how you can have a baby or sacrifice yourself.

And not dissing LOTR, since it's definitely one of my favorites, but in my mind it's not what the story needs.

Ok then i will give my honest opinion to you :)

I've all Halo Games and yes they are enjoyable and ok, but thats about it i dunno why this and CoD are such Highselling games. Its pretty much the same and every title just adds a few things that aren't really new and all people just go nuts. (like APPLE PRODUCTS)

Im still waiting on my copy of DA2 so i cant really say much about it.

But i know how they could turn DA2 in a highselling game - make it an FPS and add some space warfare or modern times terrorism, after that the Bioware Crew clap there hands and enjoy the fresh new idea they brought in the gaming world. :Bounce:

So, which is it? What should Bioware do to make this a high selling game, or a perfect game? Let's face it...high-selling does not equal perfect.

To make it high-selling? Throw in a pvp mode so 12 year-olds can yell "pwned" at each other and you've got another million sales.

To make it perfect? I don't know, turn it into what I expect Mass Effect 3 to be?

Adding a samauri, apache, and a spartan into the game would ruin it. Imagine LotR with Frodo being carried around by Gerard Butler while Tom Cruise is cutting people in half -_- Just no. I recall Bioware stating that they changed the art style so that it WOULDN'T be confused with LotR....so why bring in people who worked on that?

It's like saying Halo would be perfect if I could use cover and had a lancer to chainsaw people with. You're asking what would make this game perfect, and then you're changing it into another game completely. This completely defeats the purpose of your question. This game is great in it's own right, and other than a few complaints it really doesn't need to change.

And a comparison to Oblivion? Really?

On-topic: Co-op and Morrigan would've made DA2 perfect. Morrigan had some damn fine dialogue.

You make the mistake of equating quality with high popularity. Following that logic, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber would be the pinnacle of musical evolution, while Beethoven was a hack. And that just isn't the case.

Halo and CoD are popular not only because they are high-quality (or rather, high-production games) but also because they are easily accessible. A huge RPG like Dragon Age is the exact opposite of that and hence will never sell the same amount, because too few people have the neither attention span to follow, nor the brain to put all the info together. Just look how on this forum there are theads by people who played through the first game without getting what dark spawn are. The main reason DAII has only human protagonists to play is because we 'need' voice acting because, like, OMG! reading is hard, and stuff.

For me, a great RPG has a gripping and complex story, filled with colourful and memorable characters cracking good dialogue, set in an immersive and rich world. Everything else - graphics, sound, combat, loot and whatnot - is secondary. Naturaly I'd prefer a good-looking and nice-sounding game over a mediocre one, but that's not why I play RPGs. Likewise, I don't miss additional classes like samurai - and wouldn't that be nothing more than another fighting style for warriors, of which there are already nine in DAII?

And finally, I really don't see what Jackson or Snyder could bring to the RPG table Biowareor Obsidian can't. Being a great director doesn't automatically make you a great game creator.

I'd rather play DA:O over (which I have more times than I can recall) than HALO or CoD series...

I agree with a lot of what's being said. A)I too lol'd at this when I read it. B)I also agree that you are equating high gross sales to being perfect. I'm an avid fan of the Halo Series and I liked the COD: MWF series, but both of these series are far from perfect. There is no such thing as a perfect game, this is the ultimate realization. Even if someone incorporated everything I want into it, I would find something else to bitch about, probably one of the things that I thought would make it perfect. The perfect game is a figment of our imaginations. A good/great game is any game that defines entertainment for 'you' the player. Did you play it because it looked interesting, did it turn out to meet your general expectations or exceed them, and ultimately...were you entertained by it? If you were then it was good and that's all that can be expected, but nothing can ever be perfect.

Peter Jackson is a good director so are Zack Snyder, for me, but for the video game franchise? I hardly think they would add anything, and why would I want to play anything similar to Tolkein, great author, but I don't wanna spend 3 hours walking anywhere.

its a great game. no game is perfect but this as an action/rpg is very good. rpg's will never sell as much as fps's but i enjoy them more.
To call halo and cod perfect is silly.
I dont think this game will get goty due to skyrim, batman, gears 3, battlefield 3, mass effect3 etc. But it is still good.
I could have done with being able to change your companions armour but whatever i can still upgrade it and that.

I love both Dragon Age.

But, be honest, Oblivion is way better. Its actually a real RPG with a free world.

Dragon Age is very linear for an RPG.

Both have their strenght and weakness, but when its all said and done, Oblivion is a much more polished game.

CoD and Halo are an insult to the fps genre. Rehash games like Dynasty Warriors just shinier. You're not a magpie are you?

N' I'd hate to see "Peter Jacksons Dragon Age" on the front of a game that took years to make and still released with an incomplete story.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Bioware know how it's done =D

I agree with this but Oblivion felt like a chore to me. If they coild do the free world with DA gameplay then I think that would be better.

There's not much else I'd do with DA (I'm just glad the tree's don't look like they came from 'Kingdom for Keflings' anymore) But these co op ideas are interesting.

I think a dlc with a crash site of a Krogan ship (Did they have their own?) could be a laugh but that depends on DA's and ME's timelines. Sure humans wouldn't be on the Citadel yet but Krogans are well old lol Surely it's not impossible?

Excuse typos, I'm crap with touch screen

did you... did you just call cod perfect?Yes, the OP did. Which just made me laugh. Really?

First off, there is not one game out there that will be perfect. No way, no how. Too many variables for programmers to get them all perfect.

RPG games in my view is more of a niche genre than FPS. And the reason FPS sell so well isn't because of the story or single player mode, but the MP mode. And it's easier to cheat.

I do not want co-op on my RPGs. The co-op on Fable II/III just blows, even though they improved it some in III. Still acts very buggy. And why do you need someone to play with you anyway? There are many MP games, play those if you need to play with others.

I know many people that have played all the Elder Scroll games and they all feel that Oblivion is the worse of them. They are also hoping Skyrim is an improvement.

This is a Dragon Age thread. It has nothing to do with Halo or Call of duty (there's been what 100 now). Yes, I will go against the grain and say Halo sucks space marine kills aliens how original. Then the way Microsoft Shoves Halo down your fucking throat pisses me off all the more (Get a clue not everyone likes the fucking game). Just because they sells a million titles to underage kids who have no business playing them; (online at 3am laughing because the can make a character crouch over a dead body) doesn't make it a good game. Profitable, yes, but not good. FPS usually last 8 hours story at max, In no way do they touch the epicness of an RPG. Not to mention every other game coming out is a FPS booooring. How many online deathmatches can people possibly stand, seriously. If you want to talk about Halo or Call of duty go over to those forums and talk to the fanboys there. Comparing and RPG to a shooter. Again, seriously.

Btw: R. A. Salvatore (hope I got the spelling right) would be freakin epic and humorous. Any one else remember: "The drizzit is coming, The drizzit is coming"? Corny yes but I loved anything to due with the dark elf Drizzt do'urden especially his Baulder's gate cameos.
