I am currently using a rogue with a bow and I am playing a support role, with Bethany as a Healer/Damager and Merril as an all out Damage dealer.

I prefer the set up of:-

Cover Archer (picklocker and trap man)(Me)
Healer(Wynne)
Warrior (Powerhouse)(Sten)
Warrior(Tank)(Alistair)

So, Bethany is my Wynne, Aveline is my Alistair.

WHERE IS MY NEW STEN !!!

To make my question more clear, I am basically looking for a character that is a heavy close quarters damager.

I have my archer, healer and tank but want a powerhouse.

Probably Fenris is your best bet.

I played my first playthrough as a shield and sword warrior with Anders and Merrill as my attacking mages. Anders was programmed to use Heal when I was at 50% health, but that usually never worked out, so I burnt through alot of potions, but they're common in the game. So, now on my second playthrough as a DW Rogue I've got Fenris as my tank (he attacks too), while Merrill uses magic and Isabella backs me up picking people off from behind. So far it has worked out quite nice on nightmare while I go down to hard on specific bosses.

Honestly if you want a powerhouse then a duel wielding rogue specialist such as Isabela would be the logical route. I was doing over 100+ a hit with my rogue by level 20 and over 1k damage with the final duel wield attack you learn. Then you just give them supporting skills that permanently increase def% and stuff. That with good tactics for healing and status spells is pretty much a rapefest.

They even said that Rogues are the damage dealers of DA2

CONGRATULATIONS YOU WIN TODAYS POINTLESS POST OF THE DAY AWARD

Anyway, thank you all for your input I think I will use Isabella over Fenris as I have read that Fenris is totally Anti-Mage and I would class myself as a Mage Sympathiser.:p

Yea, it's difficult to use him since it's sad to see the Rivalry (+5) (+10) (+15) come up in after almost every worthwhile cutscene. I'm on my anti-mage runthrough now, so this should be fun!

That's really not entirely true. Rogues are going to do the most dmg to a single target, so they are king for boss fights, but the 2h warrior does SOOOO much damage due to the fact that every swing hits multiple targets.

I really would recommend rethinking Isabella over Fenris. Up until the expedition, I would use 2h warrior, dps, dps, healer. Then after the expedition, tank warrior, dps, dps, healer.

So pre expedition:

2h warrior (Fenris / Hawke)
range dps (Varric / Hawke)
any dps, preferably caster (Bethany / Merrill / Hawke)
healer (Andrus / Hawke)

Once the expedition starts:

tank warrior (Aveline)
any 2 dps, would still recommend Fenris as one of these
healer (Andrus / Hawke)

This is so true. And this is also the team I run with being a DW Rogue.

Amazing post mate, I wish more people took the time to layout their posts and add detail.

Right so I should (heading to expedition now) go with :-

Archer - Hawke (Support Damager)
Tank Warrior - Aveline (Damage Soaker)
Two-Handed Warrior - Fenris (Close-Range Damager)
Healer - Anders (Support Healer)

I would take a mage damager like Merril but to have 3 out of 4 party members as range fighters Aveline would be alone and would drop too quickly.

Lastly, any advice on what attributes and abilities to give each character ?

Mainly abilities.

Thank you.

Aveline - You'll want to give her lots of Constitution and then her second most important stat will be Strength. Basically just give her the Guardian tree and you'll want to pick up Shield Defense, Perception, and Safeguard out of the Weapon & Shield tree early on. The Warmonger tree also has some useful tanking abilities like Tremor, Taunt (which I think she starts with anyway), and Bravery can be very helpful.

Fenris - The entire Two-Handed tree provides the backbone of deadly abilities that Fenris will need. Once he's all upgraded moves like Whirlwind will outright kill most grunts surrounding him. His Tevinter Fugitive tree has lots of useful abilities for him as well. Keep his Strength high but you will also want to put a decent amount of points into Constitution.

Anders - Willpower and Magic. Heal, Heroic Aura, and Glyph of Repulsion will be vital out of the Creation tree. The Arcane tree has Mind Blast, Barrier, and Arcane Shield which are very vital defensive spells for any healer. He has three very important abilities on the top of the Vengeance tree that really put his healing ability beyond what any other ally can do and it's worth putting points into the bottom half just to get Swift Justice which reduces the cooldown on all of his spells. Rock Armor in the Primal tree can also help him out.
