I've heard the Silent Hill series is something to fear

Dead Space 2 is less scarier then Dead Space 1, but they're both an adrenaline rush

I recently played Condemned 2... and was quite surprised how scary it was... only to be let down by a sub par ending.

I never quite understood why ppl were scared of the dead space series.. I just felt that they game was bad ass in every way.

Ive had more shocks playing CoD online than that game.

But its supposed to be scary.. I think Condemned was scary? Idk, Havne't played in years! can't even remember.

I think the 'fear factor' in games can be summed up in a few ways, but the two most important are the power of the enemies and your lack of firepower/ammunition. For me, the three scariest games I've played are Project Zero (Fatal Frame), the very beginning of Bioshock (kinda loses the fear factor when you have an upgraded Machine Gun and Electro Bolt 3) and, of course, the original Resident Evil.

Quoted for truth.

360 hasn't had truly scary games for it at all. Ok some startling, or games with really good atmospheare (Dead Space, Condemned, F.E.A.R.) have been released, but not really any scary ones.

Unless of course you don't count Gears of War as it is the only game that has gone to my nightmares, but it has done so for other reasons than being scary...

I did this on purpose when fear first came out, scared the piss out of me to the point where I wouldn't move

For the 360 in particular, I'd say Condemned, Dead Space, and Bioshock in that order. Not too many true horror games for the 360 I'm afraid :(.

Deadspace, although most of the time I felt they were cheap "jump out at you" scares rather than the atmosphere/pacing etc...

Silent Hill 2 on the other hand, just brilliant. (not any xbox game though)

Edit: Strangely, Fallout 3 had a few chilling moments when you were in abandoned buildings and didn't use the radio.

Jep this takes the cake- You are forced to go head to head close up to your enemy in dark creepy settings. Love that game,. So if you really want a scary game, go for it.

on 360- id say condemned 1-2 And dead space 1-2 - But nothing near Fatal Frame.

Condemned, without a doubt the scariest game I've ever played. The mannequin scene is genuinely horrifying, while the locker bit's enough to make anyone jump out of their skin.

Dead Space, & Bioshock during the later levels.

Dead Space for me, Bioshock creeped me out in the beginning but in those type of games the enemies generally get more annoying than scary as you play through.

1)Condemned
2)Dead Space
3)Bioshock
4)Silent Hill Homecoming
5)F.E.A.R
Condemned had to be the scariest though. Dead Space had some scary moments and a dark atmosphere but once you got some good guns things just went along. Silent Hill: Homecoming was not as scary as previous games but still kept the horror element. FEAR was just straight up scary xD even with the graphics..shit myself every time Alma appeared..damn if they re-made that game with updated graphics..damn.

I bought my XBox 360 only fairly recently and so find myself late to most games, though the advantage of that is they are often cheap. Currently playing Batman Arkham Asylum and found the Scarecrow missions and cutscenes genuinely disturbing, especially the preamble to the first one. Game designers have vivid, if dark, imaginations, it seems.

The scariness of Dead Space is really going to depend on how easily you're grossed out or shaken up by sudden noises. Unfortunetly, Dead Space (Much like "Other" horror games and movies) relies way too much on things suddendly jumping out at you (Sadly, game and movie makers don't seem to realise that "Being Startled" and "Being Scared" are not the same thing). In fact, once you realize that Dead Space relies way too much on certain conventions, it even looses the suprising aspect. (You see glass? Odds are good something is about to jump out. You see a dead Necromorph? Yeah, it ain't dead).

Now, that's not to say that Dead Space is a BAD game, because I really enjoyed it. It's just not going to be SCARY, especially if you play lots of survival horror games.

I've been getting into the thriller games a little more lately.

Alan Wake and Dead Space (2) can give you a good spook if the lights are off and its night. That's typically when I rock some Alan Wake.

Thank you!.. I now remember a bit more of condemned.

My vote sticks with condemned for scariest game for 360.

Fear second

and Dead Space third.. even though i dont recall any shocks its supposed to be scary and its a very good series overall.

Let's see...

Condemned, for sure. *slight spoiler, if you want to keep the creeps a secret* The mall level where you have to deal with the psycho mannequins... I was seriously creeped out when I actually realized some of those things were alive. XS

Dead Space, first playthrough. Once you've played Dead Space once, the scares just aren't scary anymore. Good thing the story is great, 'cause I certainly don't play them for the creatures. =S

Not much else that I've played that was overly scary... have yet to play much of the F.E.A.R. series, and Bioshock was weird and atmospheric, but not really that scary.

Maybe some of you have a few suggestions for what to try?

Dead Space, I'm still too scared to carry on playing it after trying it out for 15 minutes.

The first Condemned is the ONLY game that had me kind of scared. The sequel didn't really get me like the first one, I still enjoyed it. Would love another one.
Dead Space made me jump a couple times but didn't really scare me.
My sister was terrified of the first Silent Hill.

I seen someone mentioned Fatal Frame, I missed those games last gen unfortunately. Was mostly at the bar and out being social during most of the PS2 years and when I played catch up late last gen I must have overlooked them.

Just....so scary. The fact games like this and My Horse and Me 2 even exist gives me nightmares. I know this one isn't an xbox game but it still gives me the creeps!

For me it's between Dead Space & Condemned. Dead Space had me jump on several different occassions, but I don't remember ever playing in true suspense though. Condemned on the other hand had me wrapped up in the story and I was playing on the edge of my seat most of the time. I'll give a slight edge to Dead Space, but only because the game itself is better IMO.

On my 360. my vote goes into the Condemned category. Overall, I wish the Silent Hill successors were rated as scary as the original. The first Silent Hill had me turning lights on and checking the other rooms of my old apartment.

I thought I was the only one who checked other rooms after I played a real scary game and actually into the atmosphere.

To me Bioshock isn't a horror, just a kickass shooter.

Silent Hill games
Dead Space Condemened

The first 3 Resdent Evil's

The first Resident Evil on Gamecube had them Hunters and Crimson Zombies? Oh god

I heard the Fatal Frame games is the most terrifying horror game ever. Japan knows how to scare people

The creepiness of Alan Wake is a lot scarier than the general jump-out scares of Dead Space.

Dead Space is an action game, not a horror game.

I`ve played Alan Wake and Silent Hill Homecoming specting to be very scared, nothing happened, just a bit surprised (not scary) with Alan Wake.

TheMaximumHump
03-28-2011, 11:11 PM
Alan Wake can get pretty creepy if you play with a good pair of headphones at night with the lights off. Especially when you're in a close environment like a building. And you can hear things moving on the roof or the floor above you.

And I only played F.E.A.R. a little bit but when I did it was in a room with about five people all crowded around a tiny little screen with the lights off. There were a couple moments that made us all scream like little girls.

As someone who doesn't play many horror games, I would have to say the scariest game I've played on the 360 is Dead Space.

When I eventually get around to playing Dead Space 2 I think it's going to top the list.

Project Zero 2 / Fatal Frame 2
Call of Cthuhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

All on the original XBOX

On the 360 I'd go with Condemned.

Wonder how tense Alice will turn out to be.

lots say dead space, i really want to try one of them :D
i would say resident evil, some of the older ones. sometimes they would cut scene when you open a creeky old door, then guys are poppin out! i remember that game making me jump several times.

also Cod WAW : nazi zombies, lol. most people wouldnt say these are scary at all, but sometimes when my room is dark and i hear them moan and scream loud its scary. usually im holding out some dead end room/area, so im always freaked when they bunch up and trap me.

Dead Space and F.E.A.R games have s**t me up a number of times! The final scene in Dead Space when Issac Clarke leaves in the shuttle........!
