So as I'm playing Homefront I love the story of the game (the actual game play is a different topic) and it got me thinking...all these Modern War games seemed to be based on the US military. Are there any games that focus on another countires military?

In Call of Duty 3 you're switched between four nations during the campaign: American, British/French, Polish, and Canadian.

no those guys are from the US...I'm not talking just a lone character...Im talking a full out war where you have to defend a country that isn't US...The WWII games kind of do that...but anything else?

most of these games are made for the large american audience, thats the reason. And as others have said all cod's switch between different countries militaries. Finally army of two is about a Para-military corporation or PMC its not affiliated with any one

I think the US has the biggest market for selling games.. so it seems likely that games will be made most likely to suit the US.

But, Idk if it will count as a war game (its war like in some parts).. but Metro 2033 is a FPS in Russia? or maybe Ukraine..

But i dont think its a true military shooter like your talking about OP..

Corrupt.

The market dictates pretty much. The American games market is huge so it is natural that games will by large feature American Military. A change would be nice, but would it sell so well?

I too am getting pretty sick of American shooters, the only thing I can suggest though is some COD titles (where you switch between characters, COD 4 had me hopeful since the protagonist was British, but it didn't go anywhere) but you've very probably played those.

It's Russian but it is more of a horror/survival shooter.

It's 'cause all modern wars involve the US :P

Seriously though, I can't think of any modern day conflict that would interest the Western world that doesn't involve the Americans.

Call of Duty 2 switches between the Brits, the Yanks and the Russians. An excellent game.

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis has a expansion where you played at the Soviet side of the main games campaing.

Don't know if there is any other modern militaryshooter that features others than USA. Too bad that developers aren't interested on it, as playing only as USA is starting to bore me. Why can't developers make a game for example about EU vs Russians, or Russians vs Chinese instead of USA vs anybody?

As someone mentioned, the largest market is the US. Keep in mind, Americans in general are quite arrogant and have little regard for other nations points of view (I am saying this as an American, btw)

While I have frequently longed for a game from another nations PoV (and there are usually 30 different real wars going at once and countless imaginary wars that can be drawn from that the US is not involved in) the reality is developers, who are mostly American and Japanese (who tend to use Americans as a basis) and who are pandering to their biggest market.

I echo other posts that say it would be a very interesting premise but sadly very unlikely. America completely dominates the war shooter genre, seemingly one of the most patriotically overzealous nations in the world. The perspective of another country exclusively simply wouldn't be marketable.

I can't say that i've seen a war game involving the Danes. It's a very small country though.

Well Im an American and I started this thread cause I want something different. I would buy a game that had another countries point of view. Who says that the UK or China can't over taking another counrty? It's fictional so make it slighty in the future....I just tire of the same US military games. Don't get me wrong, I'm pround of my military...but it would be nice to play something different. You guys are right though we own the market on war shooters.

Of course. I reckon a lot of Americans would want the same thing, just suggesting that like with so many things it mainly comes down to demographics and commercialism with stuff like this. The UK is the same, it's always the exact same types of games that go on to be successful while riskier titles have a tendency to bomb. I find it very irritating because I'm a sucker for games that try new things.
