Road Map by TVthePunisher

Overview:
- Estimated achievement difficulty: 5/10 (provided you use Ashley's Suit of Armor costume for Professional)
- Offline: 12 (1000:gsicon:)
- Approximate amount of time to 1000:gsicon:: 15-20 hours
- Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 3 (Professional is unlocked after completing the game once but 2nd playthrough will be Ada's campaign 3rd should be pro.)
- Number of missable achievements: 3 ("What are they worth?" "Do Not Shoot The Water" " A Terrifying Assassin")
- Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No cheats
- Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes ("A Heart of Steel") Easy mode (EU and JPN only) will not unlock Pro
- Glitchy achievements: N/A
- Unobtainable achievements: N/A

I listed it as 15-20 hours based on the casual gamer. If you run through maybe collecting less than 50% of the treasure, don't kill every single Ganado you see and only upgrade some of your weapons to max you can be done with your first playthrough in roughly 5-8 hours. If you take your time, that could reach MAYBE over 10. Regardless, you would then have to complete Seperate Ways which could take anywhere from 3-6 hours and THEN complete Professional mode afterwards.

Professional Mode is unlocked AFTER completing the story. (Easy Mode in the EU and JPN version will not unlock pro mode.) The games are different in each region* yet share the same list.

*German Version is missing Mercenaries and Assignment Ada however they aren't needed for achievements

-Play through the main game, unlocking the 8 story achievements (1 is tied to an easter egg) and try to knock out the "What Are They Worth?" achievement in this run.
-Play through Seperate Ways to unlock "S is for STYLISH!!" and obtain Ashley's Suit of Armor
-Play through Professional with Ashley in the suit of armor. Reasons that this is beneficial:

1.)Ashley is immune to all damage. There are VERY few ways to actually kill Ashley while she is in the armor and all of these are through exploits of in game sequences. I believe one of these is leaving her to be killed by the moving drill machine in Chapter 3 or 4 (I can't recall which)...but I may be wrong, it is possible she might actually just be pushed forward by the machine (like physically through the gate). Anyways, no enemy can hurt her and that's what counts in Professional. This includes El Gigante that attempt to pick her up and squeeze the life out of her, no damage will befall her (correct me if I'm wrong, of course).

2.)The suit of armor that she's wearing is EXTREMELY heavy. One of the main problems in the main game is when Ganados constantly try to carry her off, well this isn't possible anymore (especially during the sequence where you have to snipe Ganados going after her in the Castle). As soon as any ganado picks her up, they'll fall flat on their ass and drop Ashley immediately. In fact, you can stand back and watch as two Ganados constantly try to pick her up only to fail every time.

3.)You do not have to bother healing her, at all...this means that all health items you have on you can be saved for Leon only. This will help especially considering how few hits it takes to kill Leon in Professeional. In fact, you can virtually ignore her aside from puzzles. No longer do you have to hide her from enemies, worry if some are going after her...in fact, she acts as a strategic way to LURE enemies in so you can pick them off with your knife.

1) Start up Resident Evil 4 (Not on Easy) and Playthrough the game following the below solutions. It's all in a Story Order and make sure you earn Do No Shoot The Water! when you get to Del Lago.

2) When you see a Shooting Range play it. Earn all 6 bottle caps from the ranges and you earn some decent money. This can give you a little extra boost to the weapons you want.

3) After beating the game start up the next campaign Separate Ways

Chapter 6-1
The fight with Saddler can be quite annoying but it isn't the hardest of the game. Pay attention to his movements and shoot his eye when it's open. When he hits the floor you can run up and stab his eye in a sequence or use a Magnum shot to the eye to do some nice damage. Use the cranes around the area to save ammo.

When Ada throws Leon the Special Rocket Launcher use that to put the final blow on this guy.

Clear the game on the highest difficulty.

This is earned by finishing the game on Professional. Select COSTUME 2 for Ashley to have on her Suit of Armor. This makes Ashley invincible so you never have to worry about her dying during your Pro run.

PRO Tip: If an enemy is about to grab you from the front Quick Turn to get grabbed in the back and avoid damage.

PRO Tip 2: A green Open on a door means it will grant you a checkpoint. You can force checkpoints in rooms and kill as many enemies as you want and leave. They do not respawn and you can give yourself breathing room.

PRO Tip 3: If the Merchant dies he won"t come back

The achievement unlocks when you are awarded the Special Weapons.

Thats basically what I was going to say haha. Easy game if the bottle caps aren't to much trouble for some.

I can't believe the Hand Cannon is not an achievement. THANK GOD! I hated doing that.

Playing the game on easy lets you replay with the Chicago typewriter did't it, basically a machine gun with infinite ammo. Should make doing hard, VERY easy.

Going to Professional straight is the only challange fpr the 1000. Though it would only take me about 2-3 hours to beat it on easy and then just rape professional ;D

Man, I can't wait to play this. Jope they include speed run leaderboards, that WON'T get hacked >.>

If I remember correctly you cannot carry over guns to a harder playthrough as in No typewriter for first pro run.

Right. The only way to play a different difficulty was to create a new game and each time you did, you started out with nothing. You only kept your weapons and items on the particular save you beat the game with.

Bell Achievement:
Personally i don't think that you are right, because Leon doesnt ring it. So its either SOMEONE ELSE (no spoiler :D) or they mean the bell you shoot where you get loads of ammo and money (i think it was in the church)
Also the "chainsaw guy" is named Dr. Salvador :D

Del Lago:
Same as above, when you look at the achievement name it is clear, that you have to shoot at the water a few times to summon him. I believe that they mean this and not killing him :)

Verdugo:
Collect the RPG a few chapters before and keep it. Freeze him with the tanks to triple the damage and use the RPG - One Hit

Krauser:
It helps to knife his knees to make him go down, i know that it is not the actual battle (in the ruins), but that part is much harder

Saddler:
Use the crane to make him kneel at the end you can decide if you want to use the "special weapon", if not it can be transferred to a new game+

Also you should add the "unmissable, because its part of the story" thing in the achievement descriptions

Teh Paralyzer
07-15-2011, 09:20 AM
I see what your getting at by why would the first achievement in the game belong to Ada. Also I know Chainsaw guys name but how many other people would understand when I say "Dr.Salvador approaches Leon".

Also when has shooting the water summoned him??? Never heard of that I might have to try it.

Thanks for the Verdugo tip.

Keeping the special rocket launcher has nothing to do with the achievement which is why I left it out.

Gor1lla
07-15-2011, 09:32 AM
Didnt want to say her name :D Maybe it is story related, but the description says "Ring the bell" and basically you don't ring it with Leon in the beinning, guess we will see it, when the game is released

Dr. Salvador sounds much cooler =(

You have to stand at the end of the balk and shoot ~5 times in the water, then the monster will grant you your wish to die fast :D

I know that the RPG doesnt match in, but i sooo love RE4 and just want to talk about it :> Declare it as tactic or smth

Just remembered that the easiest way to kill Krauser is to dodge his attacks (QTE) and knife him afterwards, should kill him in a few seconds

Teh Paralyzer
07-15-2011, 11:13 AM
Yea I questioned the fact that Leon doesn't touch the bell yet the first one on the list is to touch it... I can't wait to play RE4 to find out.

This game is amazing I can see why you would want to talk about it haha it's just that good a game. I would love to play this game again for probably the last time unless it gets remade again haha.

correct me if i'm wrong but don't you have to fight El Gigante before the choice bit and won't the achievement be for that instead seen as there in chronological order instead of the latter one
you kill the first one on the way back from the lake in the trapped area where if you let the dog go it comes to your aid

Gor1lla
07-15-2011, 11:51 AM
You are right, but you just kill him there. The achievement says something about "outmaneuver" him and that matches with the point where El Gigante chases you :)

Wow, this is going to be an easy 1000. As many times as I played RE4 in it's many previous incarnations (GameCube, PS2, Wii), this is going to be a walk in the park.

I'm already going to give a rating of 3/10 of difficulty for this, simply because Professional mode really isn't that hard, given that you've played through the game a few times to understand enemy movement, wave formation, (mini) boss weaknesses and tactics and have an understanding to where your pesetas should be going in terms of upgrades (ignore the TMP, please, for the love of god, ignore the TMP).

Those multiple playthorughs shouldn't be a problem, because RE4 is a fantastic game, and you should be compelled to play through it multiple times, not just for the achievements, but for the sheer fun of it.

The Stray

Well, a couple of things should make sense from what the previous posters mentioned about certain achievements, but here's what can be missable, just 2 though. (Or maybe more if you choose in different paths.)

"Terrifying Assassin" (Since you can just escape from him, but wont get you the achievement) and "What are they Worth". (If you don't feel like getting all the caps though in 1 play.)

Aricardo947

On the gamecube and PS2 if you selected to load your save back up (new game +) you then had to select the costumes and then the difficulty.
Also why does every one go on about the typewriter machine gun?
The handcannon for 0 units is by far the better weapon, especialy with how much space it takes up. PLUS the light cannon (can't remember it's name) you get is absolutely class, and a god send when it comes to groups of enemies.

The only things i have to point out that haven't already, is the fact that the costume achievement, empesizes the S. Making me question wheather we will need to S rank the game/chapters. This won't be easy with the typewriter as it's accuracy is non existant.

I know i'm going to get slated for this, but i thing the TMP fully upgraded is far better than the typewriter, mainly because it can be used as a pistol, head shot - stager enemy - go in for a hand to hand/knife attack. Fine the typewriter is powerful, and unlimited ammo, but the lack of accuracy had cost me against shield enemies or plagas enemies. Where as the TMP has never let me down.

Chapter 2-3
At the crossroad where you must pick Right (El Gigante) or Left (Bella Sisters). Pick the Right route and escape El Gigante as fast as you can.

I'm not sure about this, but this achievement sounds like you have to defeat him the first time you are forced to fight him. I could be wrong, tough...

Exactly. This is what I thought. If the achievements are in the story order, then that one is the one where you have to fight him, where the Ganados free him and then got killed by the El Gigante himself.

We can't really tell which one is but the evidence point that our suggestion is probably the correct one.

If you guys want to make this a harder 1000G, do a knife/handgun run and try to combine it with no damage. I succeeded in it and let me tell ya, you have to know EVERYTHING...Saddler's a real bitch until you figure out how to avoid getting hit at all and just slash away. Regardless, I can't wait to add this to my completed games...and I'm so happy it's a 1000G instead of like...200 ^___^ thank you Capcom, you did something right. And you didnt' make any insanely difficult ones either, yay!

Here's a few things I'd like to add in:

Overview:
- Estimated achievement difficulty: 4/10 (provided you use Ashley's Suit of Armor costume for Professional)
- Offline: 12 (1000:gsicon:)
- Approximate amount of time to 1000:gsicon:: 10-15 hours
- Minimum number of playthroughs needed:2 (Professional is unlocked after completing the game once)
- Number of missable achievements: Two ("What are they worth?" and "Don't Shoot the Water")
- Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No cheats
- Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes ("A Heart of Steel")
- Glitchy achievements: N/A
- Unobtainable achievements: N/A

I listed it as 10-15 hours based on the casual gamer.

I mainly played the Gamecube version and as I remember, Professional Mode was unlocked AFTER completing the game normally. I don't remember from the Wii version nor have I played the PS2 version (I owned the PC but never played it), so maybe they might have changed it to where Professional is available from the getgo. But for an easier time, it's recommended to take this path.

-IMPORTANT: Before the end of Chapter 1-3 you will encounter large open area outside of a massive lake, there is a nearby typewriter that you should use to save immediately. Head towards the dock but don't get on the boat, instead face the water and shoot at it 5-7 times...trust me, doing this will unlock the "Don't Shoot the Water" achievement which is missable if you just continue on without doing this. By the way, you're going to reload that save afterwards..you'll see why.
-Play through the main game, unlocking the 8 story achievements and try to knock out the "What Are They Worth?" achievement in this run.

No longer do you ahve to hide her from enemies, worry if some are going after her...in fact, she acts as a strategic way to LURE enemies in so you can pick them off with your knife.

Outmaneuver the rampaging beast, El Gigante

i think that this achievment has to be done by the second approach because it say "A Rock" and "Outmaneuver" when i think back i know that i loved it in this section to direct the giant under the rocks and shoot the wooden things so that the rock crushes on his head i loved this game i played through it 9 times or so on my cube can't wait for this to be out

- Number of missable achievements: One ("What are they worth?")
- Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No cheats
- Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes ("A Heart of Steel")
- Glitchy achievements: N/A
- Unobtainable achievements: N/A

I listed it as 10-15 hours based on the casual gamer.

-Play through the main game, unlocking the 9 story achievements and try to knock out the "What Are They Worth?" achievement in this run.
-Play through Seperate Ways to unlock "S is for STYLISH!!" and obtain Ashley's Suit of Armor
-Play through Professional with Ashley in the suit of armor. Reasons that this is beneficial:

I played all 4 versions. The Wii version is best. If the game is like the wii version (minus the point and get easy shots with the wii remote) your road map is correct. Please make a few edits on it when the game comes out. I will add it in.

apollogies for double post

correct me if i'm wrong but don't you have to fight El Gigante before the choice bit and won't the achievement be for that instead seen as there in chronological order instead of the latter one
you kill the first one on the way back from the lake in the trapped area where if you let the dog go it comes to your aid

Exactly. This is what I thought. If the achievements are in the story order, then that one is the one where you have to fight him, where the Ganados free him and then got killed by the El Gigante himself.

We can't really tell which one is but the evidence point that our suggestion is probably the correct one.

Incorrect. You KILL him first then later run from a second one.

Note: Assuming that the game wants you to exit through the door at the end of the Right path for the achievement to pop, it's recommended to probably take the Left Path first to pick up all the goodies. Alternatively, there is a typewriter just outside of both of the paths...if you save before going for the achievement and letting it pop, you can simply reload in order to score a kill on the Gigante afterwards. Then you can take the left path if you choose, it's all according to preference.

I can confirm that the first El Gigante fight is near the middle of 2-1. After Leon passes out in the Cabin upon defeating Del Lago, you'll make your way back to the village coming across the first El Gigante of the game in an area you visited previously near the end of 1-3. This fight offers no rocks aside from it technically being in a Quarry, so killing this Gigante has little to no relation to the achievement:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1865/-RcSqw==.jpg (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/resident-evil-4-hd/achievement/55434-A-Rock-and-a-Hard-Place.html)A Rock and a Hard Place (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/resident-evil-4-hd/achievement/55434-A-Rock-and-a-Hard-Place.html) 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png
Outmaneuver the rampaging beast, El Gigante.

After 2-2 (in which you and Luis defend the cabin from a Ganado invasion), you'll start up 2-3 and be outside of the cabin. There is a lever that can be pulled to open one of two paths leading to a large number of Ganados plus the Bella Sisters (female equivalent to Dr. Salvador, basically two chainsaw wielding maniacs) or to a large open area, seemingly empty only to reveal a El Gigante chasing after you. Regardless, both paths have a key somewhere within the level (located within a building on the Right path, the El Gigante path...and on one of the Bella Sisters, for the Left path).

Basically the achievement describes "outmanuevering" the Gigante, it doesn't say anything about killing him. In all honesty it's possible to get every important item (including treasures) in this area without killing him, you just have to be very fast and know where things are (meaning don't chase after a green herb in a hut if you don't need it). But the focus of the achievement appears to be outmanuevering him which is tricky to do if you don't slow him down with the boulder above.

So basically for this achievement, I assume what needs to be done is focus on the very first door you come across, blowing off the chains (a shutgun or explosive such as a grenade works best, knife takes several swings which you don't have time for)...then turn around and search for the boulder above.

You will see a wood support holding the bolder in place, that the red dot from your aiming sight will land on...you'll want to shoot this (not yet). There are two ways to slow down the Gigante with the boulder, the first (and most efficent way) is to wait until he's JUST before where the boulder is so that when you shoot the support, it will land ontop of its head. This will buy you anywhere from 10-20 seconds to turn around and shoot the chain off the next door (from memory, I can't remember if there's a second door here or not x.x) The other method is to shoot the support, causing the boulder to land in front of the Gigante...it will take maybe less than 5 seconds for it to stop, wind up its fist and destroy the boulder...giving you only a short amount of time to continue on your way.

Regardless, clearly the best option is using the boulder to hit the Gigante. After busting open the door, you'll want to run into the cabins searching for the Old key (along with picking up extra items along the way). When you've found it, if enough time persists you can search above this area for a bucket hanging overhead. Shoot it to reveal a treasure that you can sell for some Pesetas later. If however the Gigante is on your tail, it's faster to now just use one of your Flash Grenades on it. This will cause it to be stunned for about 10 seconds, giving you more than enough time to make it to the end of the area (and shoot the chains off another door if there is one). Simply open the door at the end and the achievement should pop (if the theory persists that you don't KILL the gigante).

EXTRA NOTE: If for some reason killing this Gigante also triggers the achievement to pop, there are several easy methods to insure a quick defeat:

1.) Use the boulder, then fire on the Gigante until the Plagas is revealed. You can then either shoot it or climb on it's back, knife swinging (your choice). Rinse and repeat til death. Flash grenades work wonders here too, if you have them USE THEM.

2.) If you have enough Pesetas on hand, buy up the rocket launcher from the merchant. As soon as the beast appears, one rocket should be enough to kill it. If for some reason it doesn't die, use the boulder to finish it off and/or blast away at the plagas on it's back for a quick kill.

Special Note for Professional: Let the Gigante pick up Ashley in her Suit of Armor, while it's busy trying to kill her (which it can't) you can either fire a rocket at it or shoot it a lot. Your preference, eitherway using her as a lure is beneficial enough to you in order to make the fight easier.

Not recommending to stick all of this in the guide ;>__> considering how lengthy it is. But I'm positive that your description for it is right and you DON'T kill the second Gigante, rather you escape it (possibly having to use the boulder for the achievement as well).

Alternatively, if you stand there for enough time Lago will jump up and eat you. I think it's anywhere from a minute to three minutes standing by the dock, but I didn't shoot the water and it came up after me. Either way works lol.

If you want to save pesetas and create a challenge, kill Verdugo with the knife. It takes figuring out its attack pattern but it's possible to kill Verdugo without taking any damage and using the knife. The only problem is that it takes...20-30 minutes (at least it felt like it for me).

Also regarding achievement order...

Rescue the president's daughter, Ashley. Afterwards, the real fun begins.

If the Gigante achievement is in fact the one from 2-3, then shouldn't it appear after "Secure the Ballistics" in the list? Or is that how it's officially set up...because if they set it up as such and all the other achievements are in order (storywise)...then maybe we're both wrong and they DO mean the first Gigante fight, which is just before rescuing Ashley.

That's the order the achievement list comes in, leading me to believe defeating the first Gigante is the requirement for the achievement.

Also it's been mentioned that defeating Verdugo is missable, so the missable achievements in the roadmap needs to read 2.

That is very true, as you don't have to kill Verdugo to proceed. The benefit to killing Verdugo is getting his treasure, but even the official guide mentions that if you need to just constantly freeze him and dodge his attacks until the lift arrives, then you can leave.

The Stray

Or better yet, kill Verdugo with freezing him first or not (depends), then either unload an RPG, Chicago Typewriter, or the Handcannon to kill him quicker. The other weapons take forever to take him down.

This is wrong actually. Assuming everything is the same as the PS2 version (as it could be different on other systems, I only played the PS2 one) when you beat the game it has you make a save. when you load that save, you start a new game (it lets you pick the difficulty) and you keep all of the stuff and money you ended the last game with (basically its version of a new game+). Anyone remember how you unlock the typewritter in the first place? I remember getting some laser cannon for beating hard and that you could get the hand cannon for 5 staring every mercenaries map with every character (thank god this isn't an achievement cuz its the only think I never managed to unlock since it was crazy hard!)

The Gamecube and Wii versions had all Round 2, 3, etcs. on the same file as the first game. You couldn't change difficulty =/, you'd have to make a new game and select Professional from there.

To unlock the Chicago Typewriter, you simply have to complete Assignment Ada (a minigame/short non-canonical story where you play as Ada). Different from Seperate Ways btw. Also you had to complete the game before the thing would even open up, could change for this version.

Ringing the bell should refer to the church bell, it's the second area with blue medals you have to shoot the church bell and some enemies come out to fight you (which would make this missable). Shooting the water is also missable since there is never a reason to do this other then the funny death scene and now an achievement. Also killing Salazar's right hand man is completely optional (and thus missable). My first every playthrew I was horrible at the game and didn't have anywhere near enough ammo to kill him.

Towards the end of the game in the castle the Merchant will be standing outside a door and you go in and can do a target practice mini-game using sets of weapons he provides. If you meet the various requirments he'll give you figures called "bottlecaps".

Different from Seperate Ways btw. Also you had to complete the game before the thing would even open up, could change for this version.

First update, since I'm playing it right now and it's not available.

In order to unlock/play SEPERATE WAYS "I assume" you have to play through the main-game first. It's not available from the beginning.

2) To unlock all costumes we need to complete the main game AND "Separate Ways"
3) finish the game on the highest possible level - the best way to do this is to select knight costume for Ashley and play easily without being worry abou her.
4) To unlock all figures - comlete shooting on the Tirs with best rating.
5) That's all

Seperate Ways is a seperate game/scenario (not as long as the main-game) with the playable character ADA WONG.

Bottle Caps are like the figures in Resident Evil 5 that you can earn by winning the highscore @ the shooting-range in the game.

Aye, I did and I apologize for it. We worked on this pre-release so our assumption was that you could just beat Del Lago and it was a fancy saying...little did I realize you actually had to initiate the hidden death scene to get it to unlock. So yes, that is definitely a missable achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1865/+VUBwQ==.jpgDo Not Shoot the Water! 50
Summon the master of the lake. Don't rock the boat.

Chapter 1-3
Near the end of the chapter you will be at a large lake with a dock and a boat you can use to get across. Before entering the boat, go to the edge of the dock and shoot several times into the water to force Del Lago to appear. The achievement will pop and you will have to continue from the beginning of this area (or, if you saved, you can load up at the typewriter in a nearby shack).

Note: The boss fight doesn't actually occur until you near the other end of the lake, so you can always turn around and re-dock if you accidentally got on the boat.

Indeed this why people shouldn't write achievement guides before they have actually played the right version. The guide is now very off as it lists the Del Lago achievement as unmissable when it most definitely is missable. Unfortunately most people don't check the later pages and just check the guide.

Well I think the original author assumed that there wouldn't be much difference since he has probably played through the game many times before (both PS2/NGC), same as me haha.

He most likely wanted to claim the Achievement Guide spot & credits before anyone else does. These are the results, unhappy users/readers. NO OFFENSE!

Personally, as long as I've been a member on this site & reading plenty of guides, I also rather prefer people who are writing guides for games that they've have ACTUALLY FINISHED, meaning achieved the 200 :gsicon: or 1000 :gsicon: .

I can understand that people are upset over an early guide. However each discription was correct on the 20th because I had confirmed with japanese version players.

People are just upset it is missing the information they wanted so the blame goes to an early guide.

And Ill take that blame. I understand why they are upset and I am currently doing what everyone here is asking.

So this guide is soon complete. I am doing my best helping people with RE4 questions and instead of asking they just get upset and go off about this early guide.

I also stated at the TOP of the guide when I made it this wont be complete until US Release. Nobody read that I guess.

Here are some infos you can add to your guide if you want to, I already posted them in wright's "Helpful Tips" thread:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. The code for the "3 family insignias of the dead ringers" behind the church in chapter 1-3 is:

3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 3.
Reward is a Green Catseye which can be combined with a Beerstein.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. The solution for the "insignia symbol in the church" in chapter 2-2 (before rescuing Ashley) is:

Rotate/Turn the red light 2x, the green light 3x and the blue light 1 time. Then combine it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. The solution for the "portrait puzzle" in the castle in chapter 3-2 is:

1,3,2,4. Then choose OK.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Solution for the "tablet puzzle" in the knights room while playing with Ashley in chapter 3-4:

| 1 | 2 | 3 |
|--------- |
| 4 | 5 | 6 |
|--------- |
| 7 | 8 | 9 |

Sorry, I know I could've done it better but here is the solution:

TVthePunisher

Can anyone confirm if this "trick" really works? I'm asking since the guide was written ahead of release.

As stated before, it's not really a trick but what subsequent games included in their releases with the costume. Like for example in an RPG if you put on armor that reflects Magicka, that's not a trick it's just a feature of the particular equipment. This is the case here too...it offers her invincibility and has been so for each release of the game the costume has appeared in.

Also people need to calm down on this subject, honestly. Yes the guide was written early but you shouldn't jump Teh Paralyzer. It was reported over and over that the game would feature all the bonus content from the PS2 just with the Gamecube graphics enhanced in HD. For someone who has played the game countless times, naturally the idea to create a guide would come along early. Say the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out on the 360 and all the achievement names and descriptions were pretty self-exclamatory...you would figure you might as well create a guide before release so someone has something to reference rather than hear people bitching about how there isn't a guide up already.

It's strange that all of this sprouted from a single missable achievement...Don't Shoot The Water. Every single achievement in this game except the bottle caps, professional mode and costumes were set to the story...so one would naturally assume from the description that it just intended for you to DEFEAT Del Lago, not activate the hidden death scene. Every other achievement relating to an enemy required you to defeat them, so why not think "maybe 'don't rock the boat' means try to beat him without getting knocked into the water" or something like that. It's an irregular achievement in a simple, 12 achievement list for 1000 points...NOTHING IS PREVENTING YOU FROM LOADING THE GAME FROM THE BEGINNING AND GETTING TO THAT POINT AGAIN...or loading a previous save BEFORE that point. By nature missable achievements CAN be in a different order unlocked...it doesn't hurt anybody's pride if you unlock it after killing El Gigante or even Salazar...so calm down and just play again...or hell, PICK IT UP DURING YOUR PROFESSIONAL MODE PLAY!

Sorry...it's just irritating especially when someone says something like this:

Yes, never trust a guide from someone who doesn't even own the game for the Xbox 360 at time of writing. I hope someone writes a new one from scratch. Even the layout in this one is bad.

Way to be a bit curde... also the format is the universal one used on the site. There really isn't THAT MUCH to this game achievement wise. You complete the game (GOD FORBID THERE IS ANOTHER MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT...pick it up in your next playthrough), you complete the bonus Separate Ways scenario to unlock the second set of costumes then you playthrough again on Professional. This is an achievement guide, not a complete walk-through...there are plenty of those on GameFAQs. So if you don't like that...go to GameFAQs.

Okay, thanks for clarifying that. I just wondered why Capcom would add such an achievement if it can be unlocked that easily.

People still have to beat the game on Professional. Of course they need to make that an Achievement or only a few people would do it.

Perhaps you're misunderstanding that you play as Leon and not Ashley. The suit just makes babysitting her much less of a hassle.

Paralyzer, great guide so far! There's nothing wrong with the guide not being 100% complete and accurate on day one of the game's release. Please ignore the whines. If it was up to them, we wouldn't have a guide until a week or two later after somebody else had beaten the game twice, which means there'd be no help for beginners until then.

TVthePunisher
09-21-2011, 08:40 PM
Yes, all the suit really offers is the fact that she is no longer something you have to worry about aside from progressing to the next area. Ganados can not pick her up and carry her away (any attempt will result in them falling on the ground as if you had shot out their knees) and nothing can damage her (though I do believe it IS possible to kill her, just not with any weapons).

Think of it turning from an escort mission to a solo mission, you're back to playing as Leon in an environment where just about anything can still try and kill you as fast as they possibly can. You take a lot more damage from enemies and to my knowledge, they take more shots to kill. The mode is still a challenge it's just the suit of armor she wears provides some icing ontop of a nightmare cake. If only such a thing had existed in RE5's professional for your partner..

What is the easiest way to get to 1000? Play on easy then do hard with the extra weapons? Is that even possible? How do you even change the difficulty? I selected new game and it never asked what difficulty I wanted.

I played this game on the Gamecube in 2005, but I never finished it on Normal because I got stuck at the boss battle with the cages and the red buttons towards the end.

I agree.

It may look like you are trying to jerk around the authors, but it seems like they put out something that would have worked better if they had just waited. This was basically an Achievement discussion thread.

I notice they are more or less taking that to heart, one of them a bit less than the other.

As long as the finished guide looks a bit more put together. Also, the times for playthroughs is kind of a stretch unless you played it a LOT somewhat recently. May seem noobish of me to say, but I am sure there are twenty other users who kind of see it the same way. I played this through about twelve times on GC and PS2, but that was about five years ago.

Nothing from your easy or normal playthrough will carry over to your professional playthrough, you start from scratch when you start up professional.

The U.S. version doesn't let you choose a difficulty, you can only play on normal (until you unlock PRO by beating the game on normal).

There are numerous videos on youtube that could help you beat that boss.

It's cool that you're getting back into this awesome game, and you gotta remember that this guide is a work in progress, I don't think teh paralyzer has ever written a guide before, so lets cut him some slack.

Road Map by TVthePunisher
- Approximate amount of time to 1000:gsicon:: 10-15 hours
- Minimum number of playthroughs needed:2 (Professional is unlocked after completing the game once)

I listed it as 10-15 hours based on the casual gamer.

NOT REALLY!

Reason 1:
Road Map by TVthePunisher

-Play through the main game, unlocking the 9 story achievements and try to knock out the "What Are They Worth?" achievement in this run.
-Play through Seperate Ways to unlock "S is for STYLISH!!" and obtain Ashley's Suit of Armor
-Play through Professional with Ashley in the suit of armor. Reasons that this is beneficial:

Reason 2:

I guarantee you that most casual gamers that haven't played the game before will need at least 10-15 hours for their very first playthrough, even if they rush!

So IMO a decent 25+ Hours is more appropriate for the 1000 :gsicon:.

Now I'm talking not about myself, I'm talking about every newbie who is new this game & reading this guide and will be happy to max out the 1k in less than 15 hours! Not really.

I listed 15 hours in the wrong place...in fact the description after was a little biased (5-8 hours, I know my first playthrough was way over that...) regardless, every time I ever say anything like 25+ hours some dick comes in and says "DUDE ONLY N00BS WOULD TAKE THAT LONG AND I MEAN ABSOLUTE N00BS"...either way, it seems someone has something to say about it. I meant 10-15+ hours for the first playthrough, a subsequent would easily put you over 25+ hours.

Truth be told, I took my time through the first playthrough to the point that I was actually over 30+ hours. That was time exploring, screwups, getting used to the controls...sucking terribly at the action sequences, especially the knife battle...;__;

1000GS is overall around 25-30 hours + depending on how easily you can handle Pro mode & you know the game already. You need to farm cash to buy the inf rocket launcher which takes time as well........

10 achs for 750GS is easily possible on your 1st playthru alone leaving the 2 achvs for the costumes & pro mode which will require another 10 hours.

For casual players without any previous RE4 experience its probably nearer 30-35 hours gameplay time for all achvs IMO!!

Huh interesting, nice one Khaar. I also collected all 15 but didn't notice the first firepower upgrade. Now we know! ;)

Yeah the Japanese, always crazy when it's about SPEED-RUNS etc. 2 hours is really wicked. My record on RE5 is 1:50:XX but in RE4??? Guess I have to try a new run, hehe.

The best RE4 speedrunnser are not from Japan (though some are) ;P

I think 1:47 is the best recorderd for NEW GAME on Normal ^^

Check out speeddemosarchives.com they have all the world records on there for download. I would also say anyone interested in Metroid, should watch the INSANE 100% speedrun of Metroid Prime. Believe me, you won't believe it xD

Just got all my bottle caps. Don't know why so many complain. I always found them really easy. Took about 5 minutes playing each mode (A,B,C,D) to get all 24. Just use the TMP, only do one-shots and line up the shot, before you shot. DON'T SHOOT WHILE MOVING THE LASER POINTER. If you do in without messing up, you'll get a Salazar target every fifth hit (If I remember correctly)

That's the best advise I can give for the achievements. There is also a great guide on Youtube you could link in the guide. After I finished Professional this weekend I may write down a strategy for the whole game (At least the hard parts) you could use in the guide ^^

Maybe. I love this game but I have a lot other shit to do next week.

NOT REALLY!

Reason 1:

Not really.

I agree. :) though i probably wont be getting 1000 on this game. so it will take alot less.

Um. There isn't an easy mode. Normal and Professinal is it...

You cant even pick a difficulty you pick new game and beat it then you pick a new game again and a new menu shows up that says Normal and Professinal.

If someone can confirm other regions have this easy mode I will change the guide. As of right now im playing RE4 and there is NOT an easy mode.

Awesome guide. Not much needed myself personally since I've beaten it so many time, but definitely good for the newcomers that aren't so familiar with the few unmissable story cheevos.

Odd that they wouldn't include Easy in the US version, but they would in the JPN version. Aren't the Japanese gamers the masochists of the industry? If Catherine was anything to go by, those guys are insanely good at all different games and have no need for an Easy mode to begin with.

This is for the 100G Achievement.

Once you hve completed the story (On any difficulty), you unlock the 'Extras' menu.
To get the last Costume, you need to complete 'Seperate Ways' where you wll be playing as Ada (Woman in the red dress).
Seperate ways is built around the storyline, and you get to understand why Ada is in the game, I personaly liked this storyline.

Once you have obtained the 'Chicargo Typewriter' and you are wearing the 'Special Costume 2' you will find out you can show off your new look whe you reload three times!

Thanks for reading and good luck! :locked

I think even with the armour the difficulty shud be 6-7 out of 10 as for most of the chapters ashley is not there and sum of the enemies can be very challenging especially in the castle i had no rifle and the 2 bowgun enemies at the top for sum reason made the section very hard to do for me. And even with knifing enemies that fell due to ashley i was low on ammo for most of the game as they dropped little ammo. Also i dont know if this was pro difficulty or glitch but wen in last area where mike helps you and you have to pull the two switches and avoid turrets isnt mike suppose to help and blow up turrets? He didnt for me i waited ages i had to resort to quick sniping grenades and for last one on floor rapid fire TMP and hope for best (had practically no health left when got out couldnt even see health gauge anymore). Did anyone do this without the armour? If you did you are a legend and a master of resident evil as you need to practiacally hit every shot to have enough ammo and ashely will get in the way lol Thatd be a gd challenge for anyone who finished.

Could someone please explain the "What are they Worth" achievement again

My 2 big questions are:

Exactly how many bottle caps are there in total?

Can I get all the bottle caps by waiting to do the shooting range in 5.1?

I read the guide but the list of who's where for each game type is a bit scattered. I am also fairly new to this game so any details or tips would be helpful.

Thanks!

There are exactly 24 bottle caps that you can get as a reward. 6 in each row from A to D.

Can I get all the bottle caps by waiting to do the shooting range in 5.1?

The last chance will be in Chapter 5-3. This is the chapter with the very last shooting range. And yes you can get all the remaining bottle caps there. Meaning A-D. Otherwise you have to start a new game or reload a old save to acquire them all.

The original time was a bit skewed, I know that personally my first run through took over 30 hours on just the normal mode. And that was getting used to the controls, getting owned because I wasn't used to this type of game...and then exploring, searching for treasure, selling and managing crap...

I don't know if Paralyzer changed it in the first post, but yeah...30+ hours indeed. I know I'm going to take my time this next playthrough as well, especially for Professional difficulty. In that sense, your Pro one may take as long as your regular even if you're familiar with where to go just because of the hike in difficulty.

I have a question about the "What Are They Worth?" Achievement.

I'm currently on Chapter 5-1 at the Shooting Gallery. I've gotten at least 3,000 points on every gallery (A, B, C, D) and I've gotten all the targets without hitting Ashley in each galley. I do not have all of the trophies yet. I only have 20/24 Is there anything else I need to do, or will I be able to get this Achievement at the final gallery?

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently you just have to keep playing it. Got my Achievement.

Acquire all of the bottle caps in the game.

Easy tip: Every Game Type (A,B,C,D) Try to hit all 25 targets first then after that just score above 3000 and you will unlock them all eventually. Hitting 5 Targets in a row will earn you a bonus target.

All Unlockable Bottle Caps

I don't understand this tip, could anyone elaborate a little?

When we hit all 25 the game is over, so I don't understand this.

How exactly does the scoring work?

How exactly does the scoring work?

Scoring 3000 points earns you a bottle cap. Getting head shots are worth extra points and shooting 5 in a row without missing adds a chance for a bonus.

Example for all game types

1st game: Shoot all targets = Bottle Cap

2nd game: Earn 3000 points= Bottle Cap

3rd game: Earn 3000 points= Bottle Cap

4th game: Earn 3000 points= Bottle Cap

5th game: Earn 3000 points= Bottle Cap

6th game: Earn 3000 points= Bottle Cap

Now we switch to game B and so on.

You don't have to hit all 25 on the 1st game it's just recommended you do so.

Tips for the rookies:

If you are trying to get the bottle caps, use the TMP. I got them on my normal run through with just my hand gun and it was very difficult, I got them again on my pro run through just so I could get that extra gold and I used the TMP and got all of them within 30 minutes. Don't necessarily worry about headshots... instead, focus on being accurate and hitting 5 in a row so you can get that bonus target, for those of you that don't know, the bonus target is the little lamp that moves across the gallery in the back and if you hit it, it explodes and gives you 500 points, it is possible to hit that with 1 shot and then hit 4 more targets to get a shot at another bonus target.

For those of you that are getting ready to start proffesional, don't worry too much about it as it's not so much harder than normal difficulty... Sure there are difficult parts on pro, but there do able. The hardest part for me was fighting Verdugo in the sewers... You can kill him but it's a challenge on pro, if you have trouble with him, weaken him as much as you can then avoid him until you can use the elevator and then get out of there, the chapter will end and will leave you the impression that you can't kill him.... Don't be fooled by this as you can simply by a rocket launcher from the merchant and take that lift back up and finish him off. I would recommend killing him as he drops a peice to the Salazar family crown which can be combined with another peice found later in the game and sold to the merchant for 48,000.

ALWAYS use your knife on Pro mode, ESPECIALLY when you fight Krasuer, the knife is a great weapon if not the best weapon to use on him, as far as enemys go.. shoot there legs out and knife them when there on the ground, if enemies are grouped together, shoot them all to the ground and knife them on the ground as a group. To kill Krauser with the knife, he will try and attack you and you will have to press either LT and RT together or X and A together to dodge his attack, if he misses he will summersault and do some kind of flip and get away from you, this is when you move in and when he lands on the ground this is when you want to knife him about 3 or 4 times. There will be times when he casually walks up to you and is getting ready to hit you, if you already have your knife out and swing at him when he gets by you, he will get hurt and probably drop to one knee as he does that when he gets heavily damaged, move in on him when he does this. When he's stalking you and throwing grenades/ shooting at you, the knife IS the best weapon to use here.

Upgrading the basic Handgun is very good to do, it saves you money and when you get the exclusive for it, you get a x5 more critical chance of getting a perfect headshot, meaning your more than likely going to get a 1 hit headshot on your first shot, and this to me makes the regular handgun the best in the game just because of the exlcusive, and having this on Proffesional makes a big difference and saves you ammo that you will need later in the game. The Blacktail is a good handgun to have as well, it holds alot of ammo the capacity is high, the firepower is good but the exclusive isn't as good as the normal Handgun, stick with the basic pistol... the exclusive is worth it.

I'm thinking about creating a guide for The Mercenaries, a game mode where you must fight numerous enemies in a limited amount with certain weapons. There are 4 levels in total and you must get atleast a 4 star (30,000 points) on each level to unlock a new character, you start as Leon, then you unlock Ada, then Krauser, then HUNK, and finally Wesker. Get a 5 star (60,000 points) with all 5 characters on all 4 maps and you will unlock one of the most powerful weapons in the game called the HandCannon.

Hope this helped a few people, Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games of all time and I know it like the back of my hand.

Well it's how I managed to get the bottle caps and all the guides online say 3000. Did you hit all the targets? It could be you had all 3000 bottle caps and needed the 25 (alt. 4000) point bottle cap.

To the question about Costumes.

I know you have to beat separate ways but difficulty wise I can't answer that as I have US version which has no easy mode. Can anyone confirm this question?

This fight offers no rocks aside from it technically being in a Quarry, so killing this Gigante has little to no relation to the achievement:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1865/-RcSqw==.jpg (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/resident-evil-4-hd/achievement/55434-A-Rock-and-a-Hard-Place.html)A Rock and a Hard Place (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/resident-evil-4-hd/achievement/55434-A-Rock-and-a-Hard-Place.html) 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

But I'm positive that your description for it is right and you DON'T kill the second Gigante, rather you escape it (possibly having to use the boulder for the achievement as well).
i got this chievo simply by killing the first gigante in the village, its very simple.

Yes, You quoted the solution to what we thought would be the achievement. That was before the games release.

Acquire all of the bottle caps in the game.

As you progress through the game you will find blue doors with weapons on them. They are near Merchants. There are 5 in all but visting all 5 is not required. You may enter the last shooting range and earn all bottle caps. Below is a list over requirements. There are 24 bottle caps in all.

3 are located in the Castle and another is located on the Island (near a hallway with enemies constantly throwing TNT) and you can find another near the end of the game can't miss it.

Aren't there just 4 shooting galleries? One for each row of bottle caps and game type? (3-1, 4-1, 4-2, 5-2) http://residentevil.wikia.com/Shooting_Range

I believe one of these is leaving her to be killed by the moving drill machine in Chapter 3 or 4 (I can't recall which)

It's in chapter 4-1, immediately before getting the Queen's Grail. ;)

No, there are 5. At least in HD version anyways.

You only need to visit 4

Okay the only thing i dont understand in this guide is the score stuff for the shooting range bottle caps. I didnt understand what you meant by all the scoring and type a and type b and all that. I just played it normally until i unlocked all the collection sets for every door but i didnt understand the guide part just for the bottle caps.

It said A B C D during the selection of shooting ranges. The word "Type" must have thrown you off.

Thanks for the guide. The achievements are horrible (no effort put), but the game itself is pure gold!

Can you continue on a harder setting with your leveled up character and weapons? And if so how? I know how to start another round but it doesn't give me an option to change the difficulty.

What difficulty do I do the first playthrough of Campaign on, Easy or Normal?

Normal. There is no Easy, unless versions outside the US differ.

Can you continue on a harder setting with your leveled up character and weapons? And if so how? I know how to start another round but it doesn't give me an option to change the difficulty.

Unfortunately, you cannot carry your character and weapons between difficulty modes. You have to beat Normal difficulty first for Professional (Hard mode) to show up and then you can select it from the main menu upon clicking "New Game".

The only thing that carries over to Professional difficulty are costumes, which is useful if you complete Separate Ways before doing Professional (as you can choose the Costume Set 2 to give Ashley the invincible Armor that means you never have to worry about her getting killed...period, nothing can kill her and I mean nothing). Additionally, if you complete Professional Mode you'll have access to unlocks such as the Chicago Typewriter, Handcannon, etc. BUT ONLY if you complete the mode. Sadly, you will start off the game with basic equipment and will have to survive (unlike RE5, where all your equipment carries over between modes).

if I upgrade a weapon in normal mode and get infinite ammo with this weapon... can I use the weapon after playing through the story and use it in pro mode like RE5?
