Real, hits PS3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC in Early 2012

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2011/08/medium_csgo.jpgThe Counter-Strike: Global Offensive rumors (http://kotaku.com/5830230/is-valve-releasing-a-new-counter+strike-game) were true. Valve Software announced the game today and already added a listing for it to Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/1800/).

In a press release, Valve said that "CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more."

The team-based shooter game is "targeted" for an early 2012 release on the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network, Mac and PC in early 2012.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi said in today's announcement. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

The game is being co-developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment (http://www.hiddenpath.com/) (the latter of whom worked with Valve on updates to Counter-Strike: Source, the game's most recent major release) and will be playable at PAX Prime in two weeks in Seattle as well as at the London Games Festival Eurogamer Expo in late September.

Interesting. I wonder what those Valve protesters (http://kotaku.com/5830138/its-day-two-of-the-half+life-2-episode-three-protest?tag=valve) are thinking right now. They were demanding a long-lost sequel from Valve, weren't they?

Really looking forward to this, I never really got into Counter Strike on the PC, where it all started. But I have played a bit of it and enjoyed it! :)

According from what they just released, the game is going to be cross-platform play. I think that means Xbox-players can compete against PC-players.
If that's true, expect to get wrecked about 90% of the time.

They can't. Cross-platform play is only available for PS3 and PC/Mac since it is through steam.

Boo! No fair! :p Oh well, I'll still enjoy it with my Xbox controller. Maybe I'll buy it for PC, too.

I really hope they don't, not only is it an unfair advantage for them but how many pc users are going to be aimbotting and wallhacking like on the original? Those two exploits/cheats are the reason I quit CS in the firstplace /sigh

From what I read on SC ( I think, don't hold me to that because I can't remember for sure ! ) the match making has the option of 'Player' and 'Ranked' matches so I assume the playstationers will only be able to play PCers in ranked which would be official valve server farms not random dedi's so security SHOULD be upto scratch ..

As for PS3 users being able to use Mouse + Keyboard, that's cool and everything but unless they have played a PC shooter before alot of them will jack the game in due to the inability to adapt without big negative games for a little while, even if they went back to controller they still face the same outcome lol .. Also how many people have a table infront of their TV? I don't so even if I had a PS3 I couldn't use a mouse and keyboard lol ..

Whilst we don't have steam on the xbox, I honestly see us getting some form of it with CS:GO, if we do I assume we can play PCers and in theory PS3ers but then how would MS and Sony feel about that? Can't see either of them liking it and going for it .. so if Xbox did get Steam I would imagine it would be PC and Xboxers or PS3ers only :(

Personally I loved Shadowrun the only thing that pissed me off about it was the advantage PCers got :\

There are loads of possibilities but yeah I will only be getting this on the PC though probably stick to Source :3

I don't like counter strike, I think the poor graphics and gameplay rotten, it's actually a pretty boring game in my opinion

The original Counter-Strike came out in 2003 and it was a free mod for Half-Life, which is even older (1998). So basically you're saying a game from the era of the N64 has bad graphics and boring gameplay. No shit.

If you had played it when it was new you'd realize why SO MANY PEOPLE love the game.
