View Full Version : Catch achievement - glitched?

Just a quick question for all those people playing this already. I've poured twenty odd hours into the game already in order to get the review done but still haven't got this achievement.

All you have to do is kill an infected with a grenade, which should be tricky as those buggers move pretty quickly. However, I've managed to do it on five different occasions now and still no joy. I know for a fact there was an infected present and that they died so have no idea what the issue is.

For reference I've attempted this with a Deo-bomb, Incendiary Grenade and regular Grenade. But each time nothing happens, plus as far as I can see no one has managed to unlock this particular achievement yet. It's a shame as I was well on my way to maxing out this game and if I end up ten points short it will well and truly suck.

thats just sad - could be a reason 2 pass this game for many people including me !

I have the same problem as well. I used the deo-bomb on a suicider zombie and received the Me First! achievement which means it at least registers the weapon as a grenade. Then I used another of the same bomb on an infected and it did absolutely nothing.

I tried it multiple times and even once on a pair of infected as I stood inside the safety of a bus. I have yet to unlock it despite many attempts so I am afraid that it is glitched as well.

I'm the same, I haven't been able to get this one. Perhaps the description was written wrong and we have to do something slightly different to unlock it.. Or it could just be glitched until patched :(

I can't get light my fire either. I've tried lighting them one after the other, I tried with a group of seven and a group of three straight after it. And I even managed to throw a Molotov and light 13 zombies all at once and 12 of them died from the fire but I still haven't unlocked it. If you've got it, could you share your tip please? :)

Might just be glitched. There's a day one patch coming which includes 38 fixes, not sure what exactly those are though.

Thats quite a petty reason to pass up on this game, just for one achievement? :p

Wow that much, what a shame.

Here from x360a-review by Lee Abrahams:

Thankfully the achievement list is full of fun and invention, with very few tasks tied into any specific missions other than the overriding story arc. This means you are free to wander, or drive around killing zombies and picking up points as you go. Though we are a touch concerned that the Catch achievement (for killing an Infected with a grenade) may be glitched, we mixed up a whole bunch of the explosive blighters and dropped them on countless infected but had no joy getting that signature sound. Hopefully this is just a simple workaround, but no one we played with seems to have had any joy either. It would be a shame if such a solid list were ruined by one seemingly minor task.

Lee Abrahams is jackanape. Although, I didn't know if you already knew that.

I reckon this will be patched pretty quickly though, as surely those 38 fixes must include it?

Not a shame at all, that's good that they're patching it. Some games don't get day 1 patches and we have to wait forever. They have one ready to go ^_^

That's not a shame, that's a good thing :)

According to TA, there are 49 people tracked at this moment and no-one has obtained this achievement so far.

Let's wait for that patch.

Ha ha. Yeah I did the review - I've also been told by someone at Deep Silver that a patch should land before launch, they actually thought I would have had it before I started playing but sadly they have no idea what specific fixes are en route.

I got the light my fire achievement by running around the city until ten zombies were following me. I then hopped onto a car where they couldn't reach and threw a Meat Bait item across the street (it's a mod you can make yourself) then when ten had gathered around I threw a Molotov and hey presto.

Maybe some of you that got the game early could report this to Techland on twitter?
They might not listen to the average joe out there but reviewers bringing it up might do the trick.

Yeah you both are right. :) It is a good thing but on the other hand I meant "HOW UNFINISHED" this game has been -not yet officially- released. I'm also looking forward to the UPDATE cause I don't want to play a broke-ass game.

I thought that too. Before release, they are patching a load of things. Did they test the game after going gold?

It's all well and good getting a patch out straight away, but it makes you wonder if they rushed it out before the storm comes.

True true, guess to much pressure (originally stated to be released in 2008) and probably a big neon sign in front of their offices saying Gears of War 3.

Well, it's not unfinished either. There's some bugs and glitches, but with a game of this size it's kind of expected. It's no where near broken.

You know, if the achievement was hard to get, I'd complain about it not popping. However, this seems pretty simple to get. When they finally patch it, it should be no problem to load a game, pop a grenade, and be about your day.

If it were the COLLECTIBLES achievement, I'd be concerned. But this one seems easy enough.

It is too bad that it's glitched, but I'm sure they'll figure it out and patch it as soon as possible. Maybe even include it on the initial patch so on release date, it works fine.

You never know.

Well its 9/14 now and i still cant unlock Catch or Light My Fire. I know others have but its still not working for me. Over and over again. Im feeling One is All I Need might be too. My devmod is a one hit kill and no luck. Sometimes i get the 1/5 pop up but thats it.

You're killing an infected right, as in, the ones who run fast, and not a walker?

Yes. And for Light My Fire i can get 11 at the bridge in the city.

yep has to be a infected easiest way is kick them to the ground then drop your grenade beside them :uzi:

I read this on another forum but havent tried it myself :)

I got the Catch! achievement just fine, so it's not glitched for everybody, or people are just doing it wrong.

Quote for truth

grenade + Infected = chievo. It's just that simple.

1) Ready a grenade (not a deo-bomb or any other explosive)
2) Find an Infected (not a walker or any other type of zombie) Reccomend an open area that you have room to move away from the explosive
3) When it charges you, jump kick it (this drains all their stamina at once)
4) Do a Jump back (:abut: + :ddown:), toss the grenade close to the zombie, but not right on it, then do a couple more Jump Backs to clear the blast radius.
5) Watch the chievo pop, and feel silly that it was this simple to get yet eluded you.

When I decided to go for this one I actually got it on my first try.

I waited until I took the boat to the laboratory. Instead of taking the main road into the lab area, there is another smaller path that you can drive down that leads to the perimeter fence. If you get out of the truck and approach the fence and head off to the left a bit you can normally see a couple of infected standing inside the fenced area.

I just stood a ways back and tossed a standard grenade over the fence towards them. It exploded a little off target but it did kill one of them and the achievement unlocked right away.

Hope this helps.
