GENERAL TIPS

Don't underestimate the power of the knife. When dealing with Los Gandos enemies (the common folk), shoot them in the head or leg once with your pistol, this should cause them to stagger / drop to their knees, allowing you to kick them to the ground. Once they're on the ground, knife them to death. This is a great way to preserve handgun ammo, and the kick can hit multiple enemies in close proximity.

It's better to use this tactic when you're not overwhelmed however, but again, the kick can hit multiple enemies.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for bird nests in the first few levels. Shooting these can net valuable loot or ammo/grenades.

Always use YELLOW HERBS to constantly increase your healt-bar. Once you've fully upgraded your health in down right corner the yellow herbs are not much of use anymore. For better results mix them with Green & Red Herbs.

Not so important for many but, BEFORE PRESSING THE GUIDE-BUTTON make sure to go into the menus via :back: or :start: cause otherwise you will be overrun by Ganados, since the game continues even with being in the guide-section (checking messages, chat etc.).

Before you TUNE-UP any weapon's CAPACITY at the merchant make sure it's empty cause as soon as you upgrade it to the next level you will have FULL AMMO. This little trick saves you a lot of bullets

You can open locks, crates etc with your knife. While it may seem obvious to some players, its a solid way to save some ammo.

Also, if you hit the "open" button twice on doors, many times you will kick the door open. This speeds up the process if there are enemies closing in, as well as knocking back any enemies waiting on the other side.

A quick tip for the Village instead of running into the building and prompting the cutscene where Leon blockades the door, leading to a fight with a chainsaw weilding mad man, just run around the village killing all the regular folks, until a cutscene happens. Then you can run into that house and get the shotgun...except now the chainsaw guy will not spawn.

Once you meet the merchant for the first time, I highly recommend you buy the Treasure Map from him, the treasure you find will more than make up for the money you spend on the map itself.

Once you get Ashley and once you've upgraded your health bar all the way, you can start giving her the yellow herb/green herb mixture to max out her health as well.

-Egg Farming

When you get to the farm, where they introduce the blue medallions, the chickens there will lay eggs, collect those eggs, then exit that area by heading back the way you came, then re enter the area and the chickens will again lay eggs, the regular eggs sell for 300, the brown for 600, and the gold for 3,000.

-Crow Farming

The first time you go to the area where the El Gigante is first fought, if you kill the Crows gathered in the area(I recommend using a flash grenade, instant kill), you will earn 3000-5200pesetas (which is considered good for starters) and a Flash Grenade (this happens most of the time). Just go back to the merchant and then back out to the area with the El Gigante and the crows should respawn.

Pro Tips:

- Only upgrade capacity if you are low on ammo
- Don't upgrade any magnum
- Don't buy the Broken Butterfly once you are able to, you'll get a free one later
- Upgrade the Bolt-Aciton rifle (!!! - _extremely useful and damaging weapon once upgraded; extra damage by far outshines the speed of the semi-auto rifle); personally I don't buy a scope, the default zoom works just fine, plus you dont need any extra space wasted in your case
- Don't upgrade the default handgun; sell the Punisher (reward from the blue medaillons); wait until you can buy the Red9 and upgrade it; it's by far the most powerful handgun in the game
- Don't upgrade your first shotgun you get; also don't buy the Riot shotgun; wait until you get the Striker and upgrade it: It has wide spread, fast fire, high capacity and high damage
- Ignore the TMP and minethrower completely

-Blue Medallion Guide: 10 Blue Medallions will get you the PUNISHER handgun, and 15 Blue Medallions will get you an upgrade for said gun.

What Are They Worth?

Use the TMP, just tap the trigger so that only one bullet comes out. By doing this you can build up 5 hits in a row which will bring out a high value Salazar target, MAKE SURE YOU HIT IT. If you can manage to do that and also avoid hitting any Ashley targets you should unlock all your bottlecaps in NO TIME.

Ive got a few:

You can open locks, crates etc with your knife. While it may seem obvious to some players, its a solid way to save some ammo.

Also, if you hit the "open" button twice on doors, many times you will kick the door open. This speeds up the process if there are enemies closing in, as well as knocking back any enemies waiting on the other side.

For professional mode....

- Ignore the TMP and minethrower completely

always shoot the 15 blue medallions that appear early in the game. for 10 you get a punisher pistol and for 15 it gets a damage upgrade. its worth 15,000 pesetas if you sell it. although what i do personally is not upgrade the standard 9mm and sell that when i get the punisher. then sell the punisher later for the red 9

guy above me mentioned it too, but he does it a bit different.

bottom line, free gun!

- Don't upgrade your first shotgun you get; also don't buy the Riot shotgun; wait until you get the Striker and upgrade it: It has wide spread, fast fire, high capacity and high damage

I think it is worth upgrading at least the fire power of the starting Shotgun and maybe the capacity if you are after more ammo because you don't get the Striker until much much later. You can sell it later when the Striker becomes available and you will easily gain eneough Pestas by Chapter 5 to gain the exclusive.

By upgrading the Shotgun you will have an easier time in the harder sections before the Striker becomes availble such as the dreaded Water Room.

That's my opinion anyway, there are so many ways to approach weapons in this game. :)

I'll add a couple of tips regarding grenades as well:

- For an easy time against the boss at the end of Chapter 2 save up 6-8 Incindary Grenades. This will kill him without any bother, just make sure you let him recover after each grenade to ensure the damage registers. Combine the grenades with the barrel and you can beat him very easily.

- Remember that Flash Grenades kill parasites instantly and are great if you have a few around you. They also stun enemies around you so can be a great get out of jail free card.

- Don't shy away from using grenades in general. Your attache case can only hold so many so if you are in a spot of bother get one out. Especially against the El Gigantes. Flash Grenades will stun him to allow you to have a few free shots and you only need to 2 Hand Grenades for each phase to expose his parasite. Can save you a lot of hassle against these. Especially early on when ammo is harder to come by.

- As you near the end of the game start to stock grenades as the final boss doesn't like them so it's worth having a few handy!

With regards to starting difficulty:

- I recommend starting on Normal even if this is your first time playing the game as on the easy setting you miss fairly large sections of the game.

Control type difference:

Type I:

Swing Knife - :ltbut:+:xbut:
Ready Knife - :ltbut:
Fire - :rtbut:+:xbut:
Reload - :rtbut:+:abut:
Ready wepon - :rtbut:

Type II:

Swing Knife - :lbbut:+:rtbut:
Ready Knife - :lbbut:
Fire - :ltbut:+:rtbut: (like many games)
Reload - :ltbut:+:abut:
Ready wepon - :ltbut:

The rest is the same!

Advantage of using TYPE II, you will also be able to successfully do some Quick-Time-Events during bossfights.

For example:

In Seperate Ways: The last fight with Saddler. I was simply standing the control room upstairs, waited till he come and then he was all the time in front of me, triggering his heavy attacks and I was already aiming & shooting with :ltbut:+:rtbut: and when the buttons showed up to dodge his attacks most of the time it was also :ltbut:+:rtbut:, less than :abut:+:xbut: so you dodge automatically.

Few more tips, when you first get to the area where you face the el gigante for the first time, during the day there will be a bunch of crows staying still. Throw a flash grenade at them and you will get a TON of money. Also, some of the torches that are lit have treasures in them that can be obtained by knifing them.

Oh and after throwing a flash grenade at the crows im pretty sure one of them drops another flash grenade everytime so you just make profit. I'm not sure though so could someone confirm this?

Also don't forget to check the oven inside of the Village Chiefs house. It should have an egg in it.

Theres a part towards the beginning where theres only one guy left and you can jump down the ladder into some water that have fish in it. You can shoot the fish and collect them. They restore health and can be sold for a decent price.

If you save your treasures you can combine them later with other treasures and sell them for more money. And i believe you can clean dirty treasures, i'm not sure though.

You could possibly have 200-300k+ PTAs by the time you reach the fight with the village chief.

I don't remember but i think I could get 1.2 million PTAs+ per playthrough when i played this on the Wii.

EDIT: You can also go up to some pictures on the walls and can press the action button and take the painting down and you can get secret gold behind them.

Not sure if its on the xbox version as im unable to confirm yet, but on chapter 1 you can kill the chainsaw guy that is guarding the exit gates to Pueblo Village for a red ruby. He will only be around before the bell sounds and before the house with the shotgun cutscene. After this you can kill another chainsaw guy who comes when you activate the shotgun house cutscene. Killing him results in an extra 10,000 PTAS.

EDIT: I got this from a treasure guide but once again im not sure if the xbox version is different:

Are you serious? Like what sections? Please elaborate.

EDIT- Nevermind, I'll make a thread in case others don't know this either.

An extremely easy way to kill Verdugo, Salazar's "right hand", is to hold on to the rocket launcher you find while exploring the castle. Just equip it before the fight with him begins. When Verdugo first appears, knock over one of the canisters. Now that he's frozen simply shoot him once with the rocket launcher and it's an instant death. There, you just saved yourself a lot of ammo and fighting him in these tight corridors!

Interesting, just tried it, couldn't get it to work, maybe I'm just to stupid haha. Let me know if you managed to do so.

the ditman glitch works, equip the STRYKER, hit LT and START almost simultaneously then once you are in the inventory screen, equip another weapon, BOOM, you are moving/shooting/jumping/slashing EXTRA FAST!!!

10. The solution for the "colored insignia symbol in the church" in chapter 1 is:

Rotate/Turn the red light 3x, the green light 1x and the blue light 2 times. Then combine it.

If complete normal first u can use Infinite Rocket Launcher on Pro as well right?

Well I just completed it on NORMAL and I unlocked the Rocket Launcher & Matilda. As soon as you start a NEW GAME+ (New Round) the merchant screen will appear before the game. If you have the dinero. ;)

Infinite Launcher - 1.000.000 Pesetas
Matilda - 70.000 Pesetas

Special Custom Unlock: Leon's RPD outfit, Ashley's Disco outfit

As for the PROFESSIONAL mode yup it's after your first run available on the main title screen.

For professional mode....

- Ignore the TMP and minethrower completely
dude, these were my exact strategies too when I played it on the gamecube! Except I would upgrade the Magnum when I was done with everything else.

Sorry to tell you the bad news, you have to play through PRO MODE to unlock it.

If you've played it on NORMAL the NEW GAME+ option is only available for your next Normal-run. As soon as you start the Professional mode you'll start from scratch.

The only good thing is, if you finished SEPERATE WAYS you can unlock the Special Costumes #2 which gives you the Knight Armor for Ashley. You can use it for your Pro-run.

As for the Chicago Typewriter: Finish the scenario Assignment Ada!

I just finished the US version (on Normal/first play through) and beat Assignment Ada, started up a new game on Professional and got to the first merchant but he isn't selling the Chicago Typewriter?

Just was wondering at what point are you able to purchase it, because I thought it unlocked it for either version (Normal/Professional) after beating Assignment Ada?

Huh weird. Ok well since it's not available at the merchant I guess you have to really start the PROFESSIONAL MODE from scratch, no cheating this time. After that it will be available.

As for the Chicago Typewriter: Finish the scenario Assignment Ada!

It didn't seem quite clear that you had to do a run-through on Pro to unlock the Chicago Typewriter, since I thought it was a separate file/system save after beating Assignment Ada.

So then I guess another question would be after beating it on Pro, would you then again have to beat Assignment Ada to unlock the Chicago Typewriter to be used on that difficulty?

Just really tired, but it doesn't make sense that beating Separate Ways would allow you to use the special costume #2 on Pro but Assignment Ada wouldn't unlock the typewriter.

I know quite strange isn't it. Well if you beat PRO you can load up your "Cleared Game" file and check what the merchant has to offer. Then you will know if you have to run through Assignment Ada again. Let me/us know! ;)

Just to let you guys know, you don't get the Chicago Typewriter from either beating the regular game on Pro or for finishing Assignment Ada. Finishing Assignment Ada will unlock the gun to buy and use in Seperate Ways. Finishing Seperate Ways will unlock it for purchase and use in the regular game (you don't need to finish Assignment Ada for it if you just want to use it in the regular game). You still need to be on round 2 for the particular save you're wanting to buy it on though.

In the original Gamecube version you get it in the regular game by clearing Assignment Ada, but that's because there's no such thing as Seperate Ways on the GC version.
Also, it costs 1 million pesetas. Though I believe it's bought fully upgraded.

For the Handcannon, it costs nothing to purchase from the Merchant once unlocked although it starts without upgrades and is rather useless. Ammo capacity of 3. Doesn't use regular magnum ammo. 790,000 pesetas to go from newly purchased to exclusively upgraded.

Also, not sure if it matters or not, but what version (US, Europe, etc) did you play? Since there seems to be some differences, although I hope it doesn't effect it though.

Loved the Chicago typewriter, had a blast with it on the GC and Wii versions of RE4. :woop: Now on my 2nd play through on pro I had to bust out my old school RE4 GC strategy guide to make sure I got everything this time around.

There's a simple way to check if there's regional differences - as it's just a port of the PS2 version with graphical upgrades (proven by the lower quality of the Seperate Ways cutscenes as it was PS2 exclusive and the PS2 version used pre-rendered cutscenes, meaning no possible graphical upgrades for those cutscenes) we just check the difficulties.

America's RE4 for the PS2 has no easy difficulty. My RE4 HD copy (I'm from the UK) has an easy difficulty. If somebody with the American version of RE4 HD could say if they have easy or not, we'll know if there's a regional difference.

Another tip: gold eggs heal you to full and are essentially a first aid spray that takes up half the space. If you get any, don't sell them unless you're desperate for money.

Here's a list of all treasures that can be combined with others and what you need to combine them with so that you can sell them for more. There may be some spoilers, depending on what you consider a spoiler.

Beerstein (red, green, yellow Catseye) - only one Beerstein in the game.
Butterfly Lamp (red, green, blue Eye (all dropped by Novistadors - the bug like creatures with camouflage and later wings, blues are rarest but you can get a guaranteed one by destroying the Novistador hive hanging from the cieling when Ashley gets carried off by one) - two lamps are available.
Crown (Crown Jewel, Royal Insignia) - only one of each part of this one in the game.
Elegant Mask (red, green, purple Gem) - two masks are available.
Golden Lynx (Blue Stone of Treason, Green Stone of Judgement, Red Stone of Faith) - only one of each part.

Also if you need cash you can go fishing on the boat after the boss battle. Just get back on it and by the piers there are fish you can harpoon. After harpooning them (saves ammo) you can drive over them and take them. Large Bass are worth 2300 and small are 750. Shop is in the back of the lake.

I know it's not a tip per se, but the Chicago Typewriter does indeed have a reload animation even though you don't need to reload it. In the regular or RPD costumes, it takes ages. You get a special animation if you reload it while wearing the gangster outfit. If you reload it four times in a row with the gangster outfit, he has another special animation.

The Typewriter's model changes slightly depending on your costume too. It'll have a drum magazine and a different grip. This (http://guidesmedia.ign.com/guides/773087/jolie_molie/wpn_thompson.jpg) is what it looks like in the regular and RPD outfits (top) and the gangster outfit (bottom).

Well you will know it for sure when you've reached that point.

I wasn't able to get them to respawn at the part where you first fight El Gigante, so I don't think they do. Tried going to the merchant a couple times and also restarting my game with no luck.

But a couple tips if you really need money is: Frequently save. When you get to any places with tons of boxes/crates/barrels to smash, smash 1 at a time. If you don't get any money from it just reload. Also make sure to use your knife obviously to conserve ammo. Then every time you get money make sure you save.

It might be a hassle, but the area right after the the town center where you first come across the blue medallions there are a ton of crates to smash and easy access to a typewriter.

Another tip for getting more cash, is after the boss fight with the fish, instead of continuing forward, take your boat back and back track through all the places you visited. All the crates re-spawn, also enemies, so you can kill them off before getting Ashley unless you are doing it the easy way with Costume #2 where she wears a suit of armor.

A really helpful tip for when ashley gets kidnapped by the Novistador (where the massive hive is in the room) you can turn around and run out to the hall and jump out to the balcony to the left, here the creatures can't hit you and if you hit them while they are airborne its a one hit kill, even with a pistol.

This is very useful as there is around 10 bugs trying to hit you and you can take no damage and use hardly any ammo!

I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet or not, so here are a few of my tips.

During the village assault in the very beginning, you don't have to fire a single round. Just make wide loops around the village for about 6 minutes, and the cutscene will trigger. Saves alot of ammo and gets you started off on a good footing in Pro.

Also, in the castle, shoot the cultists in the leg, then suplex them. Make sure to do it on stairs, because this seems to crush their heads every time. Saves time and ammo, and you deal with less parasite head's popping out.

I dunno if it works every single time, but every time I have done it, it has always worked.

two tips from me:

1. Utilize the quick turn control (down + a). It is very helpful when you are in close with a bunch of enemies. Just sprint away from them and quick turn and you will be able to start shooting right away, before they get any closer to you.

2. Maybe someone has already said this, but near the start of chapter 4-1 when Ashley gets taken away by that fly, there is a massive throbbing spire of scuz hanging in the room. If you shoot it enough, it will fall and give you plenty of multicolored eyes.

And i believe you can clean dirty treasures.

Most "dirty" treasures are hanging over a well. Shoot the plank holding the well lid up and it will close. Then shoot down the treasure and it won't get dirty. ;)

Pro Run Tip!

Make use of Ashley. Having her in the suit of armor does much more than just make her unable to be killed. Having her behind you causes her to block all back attacks. When the foes pick her up and fall over, run up and knife them to save ammo from shooting the legs. Use her as a distraction. She cannot die, and cannot be taken, so abuse that fact!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but a good way to deal with the Novistadors (the giant bugs) is to shoot them when they're flying in the air. One shot while they're flying, no matter what weapon and no matter what difficulty, is a one hit kill. It's a good way to conserve ammo and quickly deal with one of the most annoying enemies in the game.

no crows dont respawn, but if you shoot one and the rest fly off, if you exit the door you came through they return to their original position so u can shoot them again. prime example is when u get to the radio tower the crows are on the iron beams above where u enter, shoot them with the shotgun if u can spare the ammo, collect the rewards, exit the door and repeat until all is harvested.

Does kicking the door open when enemies are close by really work?

Also on the part in the castle where the red leader and other ganados run away, once you discover them. Throw a grenade in there, (or rocket launcher if you want to waste it) and kill everyone. Each normal ganado drops a spinel and the red leader drops illuminati pendant

Rocket launcher one hit kills just about any boss. Buy as needed. If a boss has multiple forms then it will usually just kill that form. So then get it to its next form then use rocket. On this current pro run im buying rockets for all bosses and though I sacrifice some upgrades by doing so, I find it worthwhile so far. Depends on the player though since Im not new to this game at all. Usually you will get your money back for a boss kill, plus all the ammo in the boss area you never used, and saving all your own ammo as well.

The rocket launcher you find is also good to use on the dual blind claw enemies that appear in the entrance soon after

For the knights. Just shoot off thier helmets. Expose a few plagas and throw a flash grenade. Makes them very easy.

If you are completely out of ammo, go back to the merchant and try to upgrade capacity on any of your weapons. This will refill that gun

The rifle shoots through multiple targets. Use it to pick off enemies at a distance , when they charge you in a row, line it up and fire through them all

Always shoot dynamite sticks that an enemy is holding. It will detonate and kill whoever is in the area

For PRO use the knife only on krauser. He can eat a MASSIVE amount of standard weaponry. I remember it taking me 6 hours to beat him on gamecube using rocket launcher , magnums, and standard weapons. Then recently saw a video of him being beaten with a knife in seconds. I tried it on normal and it was very easy.

For this version. Make sure to get ashleys armor first, by beating seperate ways. To make pro mode much less frustrating. Since protecting ashley is the most annoying part of the game. By choosing costume 2 for leon, ashley will have the armor when she appears and be invincible. Use her as bait or to shield yourself from hits

About to get bitten or grabbed? Use quick turn immediately so the enemy grabs your back. Then hit the buttons to shake the enemy off and take no damage.

Use the shotguns knockback ability for crowd control, to your advantage.

I read the entire threat, interesting tips

I can just confirm some tips (already finished this game a couple of times)
- dont buy new "max ammo" for a weapon unless u have almost zero bullets
- look really carefully for treasures, always buy the treasure maps and just walk to walls and press x (it doesnt hurt)
- save ammo on enemys by using the environment (candles in the air can drop and have the impact like its a grenade etc)
- use grenades wisely, first collect some plagas by shooting at their feets and then grenade them, or shotgun them
- save a lot and reload savepoints if u feel like u lost too much health or that u have used to many bullets

Most important one, just take ur time (on pro), NEVER rush it, use few bullets, scout everything, know the enemy weaknesses etc, exploit levels ( the charging enemys with big knives (that u have to shoot in the back)) they sometimes just turn around if u slowly walk away...

Buy, and sell smart, use the rocket launcher, 30,000 is relitavely cheap cause it saves u alot of ammo and health!!

My pro strategy: Knife mastery. Whether you like it or not, this thing is essential to saving ammo and it feels good to kick ass with a knife.

Use of knife and guns on different enemy types: ALWAYS USE THE KNIFE WHEN THEY'RE ON THE GROUND! Unless they're Plagas Stage 1, they'll rape your ass.

Weaponless Ganado - The guys that love to strangle you, they have two approaches. They'll either slowly walk towards you or they'll charge at you. If they slowly walk towards you then you're fine to just stand there and ready your knife for their face, but if they charge towards you you're going to either want to switch to a handgun real fast to slow them down (thus allowing you to run up and knife them in the face) or move out of their charge and try to go in for a quick knife. The problem with this is that they're a lot more aggressive towards grabbing you if you dodge them, so getting close may cause you to get caught anyways.

Ganado carrying Pitchfork - This Ganado has one main attack, he'll wind back the pitchfork and charge towards your direction trying to stab you. Alternatively there's a rarely used move where he'll stand still and poke forward, but this won't typically happen in large open areas. To deal with this Ganado, walk forward until he winds back and then back up consistently through his attack animation. He will miss you every time, once his pitchfork is thrust forward, run towards him and pull out the knife, hitting in the face to blind him. Proceed by kicking him and this will remove the pitchfork from his grasp.

Ganado carrying axe/one-handed scythe/knife/etc. - These Ganados are pains, specifically when trying to run by them. Sometimes they miss and sometimes they'll wind about and smack you from behind. It's possible to use the same strategy as the pitchfork guy but sometimes they move too quickly and will hit you anyways. What I do is I rely on the handgun for this portion, one shot to their head and a kick is all I need to take care of these punks.

For the Ganado that constantly throw weapons at you, focus on shooting them in the face or shooting the weapon out of the air. Sometimes they only get one toss and they'll be defenseless, but others have constantly respawning weapons to throw. Be wary of these guys.

Ganado carrying crossbow - Long distance shooters, they only fire two arrows at a time before reloading. Find cover once they fire and rush towards them. Now they'll either aim at you or start to move away to get some distance. Regardless, once you're next to them knife them (doesn't matter where, just to prevent them running or their aiming animation). Now you can either focus on knifing them to death as they stand or knife them in the face and kick em. A quick note: THESE GANADO HAVE LESS HEALTH THAN OTHERS, WHICH MEANS LESS KNIFE SWINGS TO KILL!

Dr. Salvador and other Chainsaw carrying Ganado - These guys are pains in the ass, a simple knife to the eyes doesn't usually stun them and getting close to them is extremely risky due to the fact that you could lose your head at any moment. So what you need to do is rely on your handgun to blind him for a kick or your shotgun to quickly knock him to the ground. Once he's grounded, knife the hell out of him. He takes awhile to stand up so you can get quite a few knife swings into him. Use the gun of choice again to lead to him being grounded once more, rinse and repeat until dead.

Ganado carrying Dynamite - Handgun, always. These guys are easy to deal with and shooting the dynamite midair is relatively simple to do. Just usually aim for their heads and the dynamite will end up in your gunfire, thus hopefully killing that Ganado and any nearby.

Ganado carrying Mace weapons - I have no idea what they're called...but the spiked ball on the chain, these guys are a pain in the ass. Handgun to the face plus a kick or handgun to the knee-cap and a suplex is all I can tell ya. Trying to dodge their weapon is pretty annoying ~_~

Ganado carrying Scythes - These guys love to toss these things, you can either shoot them in the head before they toss it...or shoot it out of the air before it hits you. If you're lucky you can get it caught up on a wall or you might be able to dodge it...but I typically just shoot them out of the air. Once they throw it, they don't have anything else so have at em.

Las Plagas Stage 1 - These guys and knifes...possible but annoying. That whip attack is a bitch and really painful on Professional, so handgun + kick is usually what I do. If I need to get rid of them fast it's switch to the shotgun or flash grenades, but as far as knifing these guys I'd say avoid it.

Las Plagas Stage 2 - Their instant decap attack is annoying as shit, just do what you did for the last guy. You might try knifing it on the ground however if you wish.

Las Plagas Stage 3 - Same as before, once the Plagas pops off you can knife it if you wish or shoot it with a handgun/shotgun to get rid of it fast. Alternatively you can run around until it dies on its own (I think it's like 30 seconds before that happens).

Dog thingies - ;>_> I can't really remember the name...I just use a sniper rifle or shotgun, here's where I say "fuck it" to knife killing. It's possible, I did it before on my no damage + knife run back on the gamecube but I'm so rusty since then that I'd rather just blow them away with a gun.

Suits of Armor - Can be knifed, specifically when they use the attack where they pull back very slowly and strike into the ground. But to me it's faster to fire one shotgun blast into their helmet a piece, have all the suits wandering around with the Plagas out then throw a flash grenade. Kills them all instantly.

Bug thingies - Nofistadores or whatever...Shotgun these pieces of crap or headshot them with the sniper rifle before they can get to you. Strangely shooting the flying ones while in the air typically results in a one hit kill...

Garrador - Beatable with knife but easy with a sniper rifle. Just walk around, wait for a chance to shoot the spot...and if you're lucky you can get a second and even third shot off if he keeps spinning in the right direction. Doesn't take long to kill them.

Verdugo - Takes a long ass time with the knife, but when I did do it it's pretty much spending 30 minutes killing this effin thing with knife strikes. You get it caught up in an animation where it will always fail and...it's just too lengthy. First time he pops out, freeze his ass and fire a rocket at him...done and done. You get a free rocket launcher earlier in the game (it's in a display case beyond a locked gate, you can raise a bridge in this room...yadda yadda), so use that on him once he's frozen.

JJ - Sniper rifle to the face. Very easy.

Ugly guys with large hammer and armor - Sniper to the face or shotgun to the face, they're pains in the ass if they hit you.

Eh, that's all I have for now. A few other things:

Suit of Armor Ashley - MUST HAVE. She's an instant grounder for any Ganado who wants to try and pick her up, which means you can run up and knife the idiot killing him before he even gets a chance to stand up. Just leave her out in the open, deal with anybody who isn't going after her and then knife the fools that did try and capture her. She works as a great distraction for El Gigante in 2-3 as well, if you go on that path. He'll pick her up and try to squash her with no success. As soon as the fight started, I let him grab her and I ran up and knifed him nonstop until he popped out the Plagas...did the little cut manuever, then ran around avoiding him until he was interested in Ashley again. Rinse-repeat, after the second cut I blinded him with a flash and he was interested in ashley, I slashed him up and then shot the plagas a couple times with the handgun for an easy victory. Jumping up ontop of him to try and cut him a third time led to my death on a previous attempt, he grabbed me from his back and slammed me down. So shoot on the last thing to avoid that.

Rocket Launcher for the following bosses - El Gigante 1, Chief Mendez (weaken him until he splits in half, then shoot him with the rocket), Verdugo (freeze then blast), Salazar (wound the big headed Verdugo until Salazar shows up, then fire the rocket) and MAYBE U3 (only after you and it are in the wide open area). I wouldn't recommend using it on Saddler because all it did for me was down him, so just shoot the eyes and use the special launcher at the end. Of course knife the crap out of Krauser...Dos gigante fight just burn one of them and blast the other with your weapons (you can get a rocket launcher if you want...).

Ladders and doors. Use em...keep knifing the people who climb up the ladders until they all die and doors can be used to sometimes force a guy onto his knees (leading to either a kick or suplex, depending on where you are in the game). Plus...if you wait until they open a door you can run up and knife a guy in the face or use the shotgun on all of them as they stand there.

Extra post simply for Ashley in the Suit of Armor - she is virtually IMPOSSIBLE TO KILL. Explosions, knifes, any type of gun...you can set her beneath a boulder trap and shoot out the stick, she'll simply be pushed to the side with no damage. You can light her on fire, you can leave her in the room with the drill machine and SHE'LL STILL SURVIVE. That armor = God mode for her. Nothing can kill her, you don't even have to do the button mashing in her sequence with the suits of armor that try to kill you. Just let them hit! No damage. You can even put her up on the hill that the truck is driving down on 2-3, shoot the truck and have it crash right into her...she'll be A-okay.

I'm on my Professional run right now, I tested out a lot of methods back on the Wii but with every possible death method I can think of. Last thing I'm going to be able to try is the wrecking ball in chapter 5 but otherwise she's invincible to any possible death. Fun to screw around with trying to kill Ashley =P

I didn't waste money on the treasure maps. I just searched every room and building. I had enough money to fully upgrade the Red 9, Rifle, Broken Butterfly, and Striker. I didn't upgrade any of the other guns at all. I purchased rocket launchers for every boss fight. I also had enough money for the XL case.

Buy the Mine thrower or and keep in your inventory! Selling its ammo is great way to get easy money! Don't buy treasure maps...waste of money, If you played the game before, then you should remember :D If not, then nne are really hidden anyways!

Do you actually keep your money and weapons after finishing the story on normal for the hard playthrough?

New Game +:

When you beat the game you are able to keep all of your remaining weapons and items. Start a new game with the "cleared game" feature and buy that Infinite Launcher! You can only use the New Game+ feature on the difficulty that you have completed.

Nice tips guys thanks. I'm just gonna confirm again that the crow farming does not work, the groups do not respawn.

Nice tip about using Flash Grenades on them though, I did not know those worked.

I saw in the earlier posts that starting this game on Easy is not wise due to "missing large sections." Does this affect some of the story-related achievements then? Actually, does this make other achievements missable as well?

You have to play on Normal to unlock Professional, so it'll take 3 runs to complete the game if you start on Easy.
